Design function-based interventions that address response effort, practitioner skills, contextual fit, practicality, treatment acceptability, and administrative support.

Caregiver Quick Reference Guide

This assignment requires you to pull together the work you did for the Units 2, 4, 6, and 8 assignments. The objective is to fully synthesize the material in layman’s terms so a caregiver or significant other could grasp it readily and use it as a quick reference guide. Your successful completion of the assignment will reflect your ability to condense all of the material that you have compiled for the course project to one or two pages.

Using the literature you have gathered and formative feedback received from your instructor, create your final assignment, in which you:

  1. Define the target behavior to be prioritized for intervention.
  2. Identify the social significance of the target behavior.
  3. Apply measurement, data display (graphing), and data-based decision-making skills to make changes in human behavior.
  4. Describe assessment results and interventions in language appropriate for caregivers and significant others.
  5. Evaluate key ABA concepts, principles, and methods to analyze and change target behaviors from research.
  6. Design function-based interventions that address response effort, practitioner skills, contextual fit, practicality, treatment acceptability, and administrative support.

Use the following subheadings to organize your paper and format them in APA style:

  1. Target Behavior.
  2. Measurement & Visual Display.
  3. Research.
  4. Intervention.

Here is the example of a friend paper you can use.

Target Behavior

Tantrum can be defined as the emotional outburst associated with emotional distress mostly characterized by screaming, crying, stubbornness, defiance, ranting, and in some cases violence. Tantrums are also referred to as hissy fits, fireworks, and blow-ups, to mention but a few (Carlson et al., 2016). Tantrums can reach a critical level which requires medical intervention of the patient. The people around the affected children including parents, teachers, and health care providers should be able to differentiate normal and abnormal tantrum behavior and seek the best management practices (Daniels, Mandleco, & Luthy, 2011). The social significance of the behavior is that it not socially acceptable because the child can hurt themselves or others, and also cause embarrassment to their parents.

Measurement and Visual Display

The nature of the study is qualitative, and there are various ways by which data can be collected. The parents and the teachers of the autistic child, whose tantrum-like behavior should be measured, should be given open-ended questionnaires which can either be electronic or hardcopy. The health care provider designing the questionnaires should make sure that it covers all the relevant aspects of the condition. The other measurement approach can be by observation which aims at monitoring the child during their daily activities. After gathering the information, it can be analyzed by validation, editing, and coding techniques. The data can be displayed by use of line graphs which can relate the amount of time the child displays tantrum-like behavior every day for a period of one week.

Research

If the data collected from the study shows signs of abnormal tantrum-like behavior, the parents are supposed to seek medical intervention for the child. The signs may be described by overt show of unpleasant behavior which is severe and disproportionate to the situation at hand. Mostly, tantrums which are seen after 5 years of age, and are displayed for episodes of more than 15 minutes, it is a sign that the condition requires medical intervention Some of the general interventions which can be embraced by the parents is by avoiding the triggers which cause the tantrums. Parents can also help the child reduce frustration by childproofing the home. Understanding children with autism requires a lot of patience from the parents (Daniels et al., 2011).

Intervention

One of the important intervention programs for the autistic children with tantrum-like behavior is by use of applied behavior analysis (ABA) which entails approaches like positive reinforcement which aims at encouraging the child in what they do, prompts which are used as gentle reminders to encourage change of behavior, and task analysis which aims at learning the child’s behavior other than correcting them (Peters-Scheffer, Didden, Korzilius, & Sturmey, 2011). The other intervention methods which can be used by health care practitioners include finding the explanation for the behavior, then the health history of the child, followed by physical examination, and lastly, suggestion of a referral or pharmacological intervention. The children should also be taught to express their emotions as they get older (Daniels et al., 2011)

vCase Conceptualization and Transcription

This assignment has two parts, based on the client and recorded role-play from the face-to-face residency. Part 1 is the completed case conceptualization; Part 2 is the transcription analysis. Once completed, you will upload the two separate documents to the assignment area.

Part 1:  Case Conceptualization

Open the Case Conceptualization media piece (linked in the Resources) and complete the information in the online form for the tab titled “Case Conceptualization.” Be certain to review the scoring guide before you begin writing and note that integrating current peer-reviewed literature is required to meet the Distinguished criteria. The selected counseling theory should be consistent with what you applied in your recorded role-play and guide how you frame the treatment goals and interventions selected.

You do not have to complete the plan in one setting; you may save your work and return to the plan as many times as you need to complete your work. This gives you the opportunity to build your case conceptualization in stages. Once you have completed each of the sections, including an APA style reference list, you will create a PDF to be uploaded in the assignment area.

Part 2: Transcription Analysis

For this part of the assignment, you will transcribe a ten-minute segment of the recorded role-play. Use the Transcription Form (linked in Resources) to create your transcript. Be sure to complete all columns in the transcription form. Format the Transcription Form columns as follows:

  • Transcription column: Use a different row for each speaker’s words. Use “CO” for Counselor and “CL” for Client.
  • Clinical Competencies Utilized column: (“What I Did.”) Identify clinical competencies. Competencies may include application of core counseling skills, assessment questions, diagnosis, and theory-based interventions, depending on what is demonstrated in your segment of the counseling. Examples:
    • Reflection of experience.
    • Minimal simple encouragement or simple empathic statement (core counseling skills).
    • Assessment question.
    • Identifying, acknowledging, or reviewing symptoms (link to diagnosis).
    • Other responses that are specific to your chosen theoretical approach.
  • Analysis of Clinical Thinking column: (“What I Was Thinking.”) Analyze your reasoning for your response. Provide a rationale that is based on the client’s statement, your theoretical approach, or both. Identify the theoretical approach by pointing out examples of your use of the model’s main concepts. Examples:
    • “I see Audrey’s difficulty with social situations in part as being due to learned behavior” (link to theory). “Her tendency to generalize her shyness to all areas of her life keeps her from making any progress.”
    • “So, on a scale of 1 to 10, how close to your goal do you see yourself?” (Potential counselor statement in the transcription column). “Here I was using a scaling question from the solution-focused model.”
  • Evaluation of Response column: (“What I Would Do Differently Now.”) Evaluate the effectiveness of your statements and include anything you could do differently. Example:
    • “I think pointing out Audrey’s irrational thinking is important. At the same time, I now think I may be moving the process a bit too quickly. I think an empathic response would have been more effective here. I am basing this on how Audrey responded after I pointed out she was generalizing her negative thinking. I wish I had said __ .”

Requirements

You are expected to meet the following requirements.

Levi’s Case

Photo of young man's face.

Levi is a 35-year-old Jewish male who is HIV positive. He works as an auto mechanic. Since learning that he was HIV positive 10 years ago, Levi has been on medications that have stopped the progression to AIDS, and Levi is fairly healthy. However, the emotional toll has been much more serious. Levi has withdrawn from most social interactions. He has not told anyone in his family, and has fallen away from most of his friends. He has been able to obtain a variety of medications for anxiety, and often takes more than the prescribed dosage. In addition, he has had a cocaine habit that he views as his one area of excitement in life. His pattern of use is on weekends, or sometimes as a pick-me-up to get to work. He tends to use the anti-anxiety medications in the evening to help him relax and sleep. He sees his life slipping away in what has come to feel like an increasingly empty lifestyle. He calls a counselor to talk about his problems.

Tommy’s Case

Photo of young man in Army uniform.

Tommy, a 22-year-old white male, has recently returned from an overseas deployment as a member of the armed services. During his time there, his unit lost two members after a roadside bomb caused an accident. Tommy was in the hospital for a concussion after the accident and was never able to return to his unit. He is married and has a two-year-old daughter. Since returning, Tommy has been going to bars during the day and often drinking until passing out at home during the evenings. His wife, Angie, is extremely alarmed, not only for Tommy but for herself and their child, as Tommy gets very angry at times.

Andrea’s Case

Photo of teenage hispanic girl.

Andrea is a 17-year-old undocumented Hispanic in the U.S. She crossed the Mexican border with her mother last year. Her mother is finding sporadic work. At times Andrea has been able to work with her mother. However, there are many days when Andrea is left by herself in the rundown building where they live with other undocumented individuals. Andrea got involved in a sexual relationship with a young man who also lives in the building and now she is six weeks pregnant. She doesn’t want the baby, but her mother is a strict Catholic, and Andrea knows she won’t condone an abortion. She has come to you for help.

Hafsa’s Case

Photo of young muslim woman.

Hafsa is a 24-year-old Muslim woman. She was able to relocate to the United States when she was 18. She has been living on her own, taking college courses and working since that time. Recently, her family has been able to come to the United States and they have joined her. Her family is having trouble assimilating in the U.S. They expect Hafsa to work and support them, to always be available to take them where they want to go, and to serve as an interpreter, etcetera. Since Hafsa has been in the United States, she is less observant of the strict, traditional Muslim guidelines that her family practices (such as observance of holidays, prayers, customs of food, and abstaining from alcohol). This is a constant source of conflict within the family.

Keyan’s Case

.

Keyan is a 42-year-old Native-American, married male who presents in the office in a distressed state. He states, “My anger has been hurting my marriage. I hit my wife, she called the law, and I went to jail. I have a domestic violence charge that will most likely be reduced, but the damage to my marriage is done. I also have anger in me that comes out at work every once in a while.” Keyan has an associate’s degree in business management and works more than 40 hours a week for the city, coordinating road maintenance projects and crews. During busy times of the year, he works much longer hours. This is his third marriage, and he and his wife, Mika, have been married for three years. This is the first marriage for Mika. They have no children.

Angie’s Case

.

Angie is a 41-year-old white female who is a referral from her pastor. She states that she has been living, “a sinful life, and I have decided I want to straighten out. God has a plan for me, and I want to change.” Angie is pursuing a partner track position in a medium-sized law firm in town but has been otherwise unemployed for the past year and a half. She has two children who currently reside with their father, who has full custody. Angie just regained her law license, as it was suspended for 12 months due to ethical conflicts. A female client complained to the state bar that Angie interfered with her divorce mediation by becoming sexually involved with the ex-husband. Angie was fired from two previous firms for inappropriate sexual relations with clients. She would like to be able to answer the question her friends ask, “How could such a smart woman do such dumb things to ruin her family and career?”

Todd’s Case

.

Todd, a 66-year-old African-American man, recently retired after 40 years of teaching high school social studies and coaching, to tend to his wife and two grandsons. He needed to be home to take care of his wife, who has advancing Alzheimer’s. Mike is also the guardian for his two grandsons, ages 9 and 12. The grandsons became his and his wife’s responsibility two years ago, after the death of their daughter due to a drug overdose. Todd loved teaching and did not want to retire, but felt overwhelmed by family demands. So far, he is “holding it together,” but is afraid his social isolation due to caring for his family is going to “pull him under.”

Cailyn’s Case

.

Cailyn is a 20-year-old African-American female who has been attending college out of state for the past 3 years. She plans to return home after graduation to seek employment and give back to her family, who sacrificed so much to support her education. During the past three years, Cailyn has identified openly as a lesbian on campus and has been in several female relationships during this time. Currently, she is not in a relationship and is not allowing herself to date, for fear of falling in love and then having to move away. Her family disapproves of homosexuality and believes it is sinful. Cailyn’s family would likely ostracize her if they were to find out about her relationships with other women. She has become very depressed over the past month and anticipates that she will live a very lonely life after graduation.

Case Conceptualization

A case conceptualization is an opportunity for a clinician to take information about a client and paint a clinical picture that includes information such as diagnosis, treatment planning, theoretical framework, and intervention selection. This should be written in normal, narrative language, not using clinical shorthand (for example, “client stated…,” “client presented….” Instead, write, “The client is a 42-year-old female who is dealing with many life changes…”). Provide the overall clinical treatment picture for this client, including the following:

Explain how you might revise the performance appraisal process for Greenway Inc. to make it more effective and standardized. Justify your recommendations with the literature.

Organizations that develop, implement, monitor, and update performance appraisal systems need to make sure that the selection process considers all intended and projected uses (Kleiman & Simmering, 2011). These considerations include providing for the validity, reliability, utility, and legality of the process as it is employed in each application. Further, industry type, company size, occupation, and job level are factors that shape appraisal procedures and reporting. It is important for organizations to periodically review their performance measurement systems to ensure appraisals continue to meet acceptable standards and address company requirements.

For this Assignment, review the media for this week and consider the following scenario: Greenway Inc. has asked you to review its performance appraisals and uses. Consider the recommendations you might provide to management, and think about suggestions that you might give concerning appropriately handling and using the results of those performance appraisals. Then, consider how you might revise the performance appraisal process for Greenway Inc. to make it more effective and standardized. Read, analyze, and critique the code of ethics found in the Reading & Study folder.

Then, follow these instructions:

Listed below is a situation that may or may not violate codes of ethics when working with families. Study the scenario carefully and then go to the codes of ethics for AAMFT, IAMFC, AACC, and ACA to find the ethical answers to the dilemmas presented. Be sure to record the code location on each ethical code where the violation or permission is given for the counselor to do what had been done (ex: AAMFT 2.2 or ACA B.7.2).

You have been counseling a family of Korean origin for the past 5 weeks. Specific family members have been suffering from generalized anxiety disorder, which is connected to family discord and what you see as blurred boundary issues. In your fifth counseling session, the daughter tells you that Americans do not understand their cultural differences and how they affect family rules. Having worked with over a hundred clients struggling with anxiety, you feel she needs to set clear boundaries for her family members. You instruct her to exercise more independence from her family and seek to become self-actualized.

As a competent Christian counselor, you also give her Mark 10:6–9 and Luke 14:26–27 and ask her to study them this week to see how individuals must distance themselves and become self-differentiated.

Please follow all required instructions for the assignment. This is a Masters level course all work is to be completed in APA format, with citations, references. All work must be original is to require 300 words
