Describe the two types of attachment you might expect, based on each child-rearing style you selected and explain why. Finally, explain how culture may impact the type of attachment.

A key element of social-emotional development during infancy and toddlerhood is the establishment of bonds of attachment. A child’s temperament can influence the nature of attachment with caregivers. For instance, an infant’s difficult temperament might make it more likely that he or she will develop an insecure attachment to the caregiver. If caregivers receive sufficient social support, thereby establishing a “goodness of fit” between temperament and environment (i.e., parenting), they can overcome some of the challenges of raising a difficult child.

The child’s temperament and the caregiver’s parenting style work in tandem to affect the child’s social-emotional and cognitive development. Caregivers who exhibit open displays of warmth and affection and who respond to their children’s needs in a timely manner (thereby acknowledging that each child has some influence on other family members) are likely to socialize their children so that they feel positively about themselves, learn to trust, and are secure with their caregivers. As you examine other parenting styles, think about how the level of caregiver responsiveness affects infant attachment.

For this Assignment, you will explore different parenting styles and forms of attachment, and you will examine how culture might impact the type of attachment.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources and select two child-rearing styles. Based on these child-rearing styles, consider two different types of attachment.

For this Assignment:

Write a 2- to 3-page paper and include the following:

  • Briefly describe the two child-rearing styles you selected.
  • Describe the two types of attachment you might expect, based on each child-rearing style you selected and explain why.
  • Finally, explain how culture may impact the type of attachment.
  • Be specific, provide examples, and justify your response with citations from the Learning Resources/literature.

Write a brief reflection (no more than two well-structured paragraphs, supported by the literature and research, about the skills, knowledge, and professional attributes that you have developed throughout your program of study at Capella.

Professional Knowledge and Skill Reflection

The purpose of this reflection is to help you articulate your development as a professional in psychology. Thoughtful answers to the discussion prompts will prepare you for the job interview process and celebrate the final work of your program. This may be a good time to visit the Capella Career Center for further exploration and planning, job search strategies, connecting with others and other career enrichment resources.

Write a brief reflection (no more than two well-structured paragraphs, supported by the literature and research, about the skills, knowledge, and professional attributes that you have developed throughout your program of study at Capella.

Consider:

  • The information, skills, and professional attributes you bring to your area of practice or specialization.
  • Your theoretical orientation.
  • The main characteristics of the practitioner or scholar who understands and responds skillfully to the wide range of human diversities.Make an initial post (100 word minimum)  to EACH of the four discussion topics within the first two weeks of the beginning of the course. You are required to make at least three reflective posts (100 word minimum) to the comments of other students.

You must begin by first stating “I believe your main (basic)point was”.  You may then proceed to discuss your viewpoint and advance or clarify you contribution to the discussion topic.

Children being so young (in third grade), they are able to recognize racism and can tell how people are treated differently. This experiment is an interesting way to show kids it does not matter how people look; everyone should be treated equal. The issue of racism is still occurring till this day.

When the experiment started taking place you could also immediately see the effect it had on the kids. It soon turned the blue-eyed kids into nasty and discriminating by the end of day. You could see the pain in the brown-eyed kids face and how lowered their self-esteem. She soon tried the reverse where brown-eyed children were better, and they were instantly more motivated and self-confident. The blue-eyed kids were soon discouraged and were not performing in school as well.

It is an important lesson to show people (including children) how much discrimination can cause a person to not perform as well and how it lowers one’s self-esteem. The lesson to learn from this experiment that no one enjoys being looked down upon, and we should treat each other with respect, putting aside their looks and focusing on how they behave.

Describe how these changes would address the limitations of the study as well as any ethical concerns. Also note the current relevance of the changes and their application to developmental trends and practice.

Read your assigned article with a specific focus on the methods utilized for the study. In your initial post, you will identify the research question(s) and/or problem(s), the target population and sample (specific group within the target population), the measures (tests, instruments, and/or questionnaires used), and the procedures (how the study was conducted) presented in the article. Using the identified elements, evaluate and comment on the benefits and limitations of the methodology utilized to study the scholarly perspectives presented in your assigned research article.

Analyze ethical considerations by addressing any issues or concerns arising from the methodology presented. Are there perceivable biases in the research methods or procedures? Were the ethical considerations clearly addressed in the study and/or discussed with regard to the treatment of the sample?

Propose solutions or suggestions for how to adapt the methodology in the assigned article to address any ethical concerns or limitations noted. Describe how these changes would address the limitations of the study as well as any ethical concerns. Also note the current relevance of the changes and their application to developmental trends and practice.

What is the best recommended course of action for the client at this time, and why? What potential effects would themes such as the client’s culture, ethnicity, family, education, and gender have on the situation and recommendation(s)?

Prior to completing this discussion, please read the American Psychological Association’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct  (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.(2010) and Fact Sheet on End-of-Life Care (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. (2014), as well as the Block, et al. You are working at an area hospital dealing primarily with end-of-life decisions and palliative care. For this discussion, you will be reviewing the PSY605 End-of-Life Case ScenariosPreview the document document and making recommendations based on the information provided in the scenarios.

All end-of-life choices and medical decisions have complex psychosocial components, ramifications, and consequences that have a significant impact on suffering and the quality of living and dying. The issues involved in this process of decision making are based on issues of developmental stage, gender, race, ethnicity, culture, health, family, and physical, cognitive, and psychosocial states. For your initial post, you will apply concepts from developmental psychology to create your recommended courses of action for either Roger or Geri.

To begin, carefully review the PSY605 End-of-Life Case ScenariosPreview the document document, select one of the cases, then create a recommended course of action for the scenario selected by addressing the following questions:

  • What is the best recommended course of action for the client at this time, and why?
  • What potential effects would themes such as the client’s culture, ethnicity, family, education, and gender have on the situation and recommendation(s)?
  • How does the client’s developmental stage factor into your recommendation?
  • How do the client’s physical, cognitive, and psychosocial states affect your recommendation(s)?
  • How might the developmental stage(s) of the client’s family member(s) affect your recommendation?
  • How will you present your recommendation(s) to both the patient and family member(s)?
    • What consideration(s) would affect your manner of presentation?
  • Are there considerations that cannot be processed at this time because of lack of information in the written scenario?

Next, analyze and comment on the ethical considerations related to the scenario. Note how the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. might provide guidance.

Remember to evaluate the unique scholarly perspectives presented in your reading to support your recommended course of action and analysis of ethical considerations.
