Create a 10–12 slide PowerPoint presentation incorporating the following elements: The judge is an elected or appointed public official who presides over a court of law and who is authorized to hear, sometimes to decide cases, and to conduct trials.

Complete this week’s Practice Activity.

Matching exercises give you an opportunity to practice definitions and develop logical and critical thinking skills. By using such techniques as inversion, diversion, and the process of elimination, you are able to greatly increase the probability of answering questions correctly. This is an important skill to have, as it is commonly found on nearly all standardized tests and increases critical thinking.

The objective of this exercise is to understand legal restraints on police action and instances of police abuse of power and describe the role of professional members of the courtroom work group and others.

Unit 6 Practice Activity

Complete the Unit 6 Assignment: Who Killed Peggy Hettrick?

The ability to think critically is a key skill for success in the criminal justice field. It means not taking what you heard or read at face value, but using your critical thinking faculties to weigh up the evidence, and consider the implications and conclusions of the situation.

Resource: Chapter 9 of your text.

Team Assignment Directions

Complete the Team Peer Evaluation form, located in the Unit 6 Assignment section, to assess all team members work throughout the duration of the week.

85% of the total points available for the Team Assignment are associated with the team submission and 15% of the total points are associated with quality of individual contribution.

You will assess your team members and they will assess you using the feedback in the Team Peer Evaluation. The professor will not share your peer evaluation feedback with others, though you may choose to ask teammates to share their perceptions with you, so you can improve upon your team contribution.

Directions for Submitting Your Assignment

Save your PowerPoint Assignment as Groupname-CJ101_Assignment-Unit6.pptx. Have a designated group member submit the assignment to the Unit 6: Assignment Dropbox by the end of Unit 6.

Your grade will be a result of your group work and your peer evaluation.

Submit your Peer Evaluation to the Unit 6 Peer Evaluation Dropbox by the end of Unit 6.

Assess the moral solutions arrived at through “care” (care-based ethics) and “rights” ethics to social issues of ethical import such as poverty, drug use, and/or lack of health care,

Initial Post Instructions
In week three, we were looking at rights ethics with regards to Locke. As a reminder, Locke said we have inalienable rights to life, liberty, and property. It is immoral to violate them. Many think we have more rights than those listed by Locke. Some even think we have a right to health care. That means it is the duty of the state to provide each citizen with their medical needs.

Rights theory says to respect the entitlements we have. If a right is inalienable, it cannot truly be violated ethically even with our consent. We have basic needs. Rights are something beyond needs. They are what we should be authorized to have. We are due what we have a right to. That is not always the case with need. For example, we need food, but people often go hungry. A need refers to something we need physically to exist. A right is a moral entitlement to something. Asking if we have a right to food is a moral question. Needs are determined by the requirements of the body and of material existence. Rights are determined by moral reflection, inquiry, an argument We have a right to own property. We do not need it to live. We could imaginably be allowed to use another’s. We have a right to own a home. We can rent.

Refer to Option below:

Assess the moral solutions arrived at through “care” (care-based ethics) and “rights” ethics to social issues of ethical import such as poverty, drug use, and/or lack of health care,

That is, note any ethical problems that arise related to those particular issues. Then, say how both care-based and rights theory of ethics would solve those problems.

Are those solutions correct? Why or why not?

What is your own approach there?

For this assignment, you must first view the video Applying Psychology to Everyday Life: Minimizing the Impact of Adult Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and review the material on p. 86 of your eTextbook. Now, imagine that you are a university psychology professor. One of your students, John Doe, was recently diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), combined presentation. He has emailed you and requested your advice and assistance with better understanding his circumstances, diagnosis, and prognosis. You will reply to John by writing an email in which you will offer him advice in the following areas.

  • Indicate structures of the brain that are involved and biopsychology factors that could impact his emotions, learning, memory, and motivation related to your class.
  • Describe ways in which his brain can perceive information from the outside world that could in turn impact his performance in your class.
  • Identify suggestions that you have for John to increase his chances for success in your class as well his other courses.

Your email must be a minimum of 500 words in the body of the email. You must use at least two academic sources, one of which may be your eTextbook, to support your advice. All sources used must be properly cited. Include the references at the bottom of the e-mail for your student’s reference. Adhere to APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment. APA formatting of the email is not necessary. It is suggested you draft the email in Word for easier uploading into Blackboard.

3. Write a letter to an elected official (e.g., senator, congressional representative) focused on a topic related to mental health advocacy.

Please no plagiarism and make sure you are able to access all resources on your own before you bid. Main references come from American Psychiatric Association. (2013) and/or Kress, V. E., & Paylo, M. J. (2019). You need to have scholarly support for any claim of fact or recommendation regarding treatment. Grammar, Writing, and APA Format: I expect you to write professionally, which means APA format, complete sentences, proper paragraphs, and well-organized and well-documented presentation of ideas. Remember to use scholarly research from peer-reviewed articles that are current. Sources such as Wikipedia, Ask.com, PsychCentral, and similar sites are never acceptable. Please remember that resources used must be from peer-reviewed resources such as academic journals. The assigned textbook and the DSM-5 are required for all assignments (i.e., cite and reference the textbook and DSM-5 in every assignment). As a general rule, web sites are not peer-reviewed except those which are online journal articles. Therefore, it is advisable for you to avoid using these websites as resources. Walden Library offers many peer-reviewed articles which pertain to the topics covered. While not required to use these articles, you should select a couple which you find interesting and which support your critical thinking and analysis.

Please follow the instructions to get full credit for the discussion. Please look at all the attachments. I need this completed by 11/10/20 at 7pm.

Discussion – Week 11

Advocating for Positive Social Change

Advocacy is an important consideration for future mental health professionals. This week, you and your colleagues will explore ways to increase public awareness related to mental health issues to enact positive social change.

To prepare for the Discussion:

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Review the videos of your faculty sharing their experiences with advocacy on behalf of the profession of mental health counseling.
  • Select one of the following advocacy      methods:

1. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper. Your letter must focus on a topic related to mental health advocacy.

2. Write a social media post focused on a topic related to mental health advocacy.

3. Write a letter to an elected official (e.g., senator, congressional representative) focused on a topic related to mental health advocacy.

For week 11, students may write a letter to the editor, write a letter to a public official, or write a social media post. For ALL of the options, students need to include the following:

*Identify the group for whom you are advocating

*Identify the diagnosis related to the group for whom you are advocating

*Identify and discuss the need for the advocacy for the group

*Identify and discuss a potential solution to the problem that you identified and for which you are advocating

Each one of these components needs to be fully addressed. Each section needs to be fully developed. For example, simply saying “I am advocating for women who are depressed, and awareness and education is needed” IS NOT SUFFICIENT. I cannot emphasize enough that each section needs to be fully developed.

By Day 3

Post a picture of your completed advocacy (i.e., a photo of the letter you have written or a screenshot of your social media post).

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.
