Essay 3:

Introduction

In essay 3, you will argue either that the library should purchase at least a dozen electronic licenses of Calling Bullshit or that it should not.

In making your argument, you will want to focus on two points. First, how useful is the information in the book to members of your student community. Second, you’ll want to consider how well the book does or does not satisfy the library collection development policy and the library mission statement (Links to an external site.).

Note: This assignment requires that you submit both an essay, an audience analysis, and a self-reflection.

You will need to follow the guidelines for MLA 8 citation. You will be presenting your argument to the library board, so I recommend you adopt a formal tone.

Audience analysis (must be written)

Write a one-to-two-page analysis of your chosen community. Begin with the title “Audience Analysis”.  The community you choose will be your audience so talk about what assumptions they will accept, what they will resist, and most importantly how you will appeal to them. Be sure to include some evidence. The mission statement provides quite a bit of insight into what the audience values in its library. (Remember, we have talked about how to analyze an audience.)

Self-reflection (must be written)

Include a one-to-two-page page self-reflection. Attach the self-reflection as a separate page. Begin with the title “Self-Reflection”; then write at least one paragraph for each of the following points:

    • What went well in the essay draft?
    • What one or two areas could use improvement?
    • What you’ll change in your writing process to focus on those areas of improvement?
    • Did you achieve the individual writing goals that you identified in the proposal for this essay? If so, what steps helped you to be successful? If you haven’t yet achieved your goal, how, exactly, are you going to change your process to help you to achieve your goals?

Specifics

  • Define bullshit
  • Demonstrate that the opinion piece contains bullshit
  • Integrate at least 5 sources.
  • Follow the specific guidelines for the submission type you’ve chosen
  • Your audience analysis should be at least 250 words long.
  • Your self-analysis should be at least 250 words long.
  • Conclude with a Works Cited page.

Suggestions for getting started

  • Devote some time to prewriting before you sit down to draft the essay.
  • Work from questions, not answers. If you explore something that you find interesting, you are much more likely to write engagingly
  • Integrate sources, but do so thoughtfully. Make sure that each source serves a specific purpose in your paper. If you quote, make sure the quotation directly supports your claim.
  • Stay focused. You do not have much space. A focused discussion of one element with ample supporting evidence and analysis will be more effective than a diffuse conversation about multiple features.

You will prepare and submit a term paper on Employee Recruitment and Employee Selection Processes. Your paper should be a minimum of 2250 words in length. Recruitment is a process of inviting and gathering the well-suited, appropriate, and fit candidates for a particular job or task to complete. Recruitment is about making pipelines of brilliant and talented candidates, and it is one of the factors on which, the stability of the organization and its position in the external market depends. The recruitment process has to obey certain limitations and criteria in order to be effective and fruitful for the organization (Roberts, pp. 11-13). The criteria for the recruitment process of any organization include the processes that are simple, convenient, and easy to understand. Moreover, the recruitment processes have to catch up with the company’s legal and ethical standards. The heads of the recruitment processes that are generally the managers follow the rules and regulations of the organization tightly and consistently.

In order to determine if the recruitment process is a science or an art, the papers give a detailed analysis of recruitment processes, techniques tools, and steps involved. First, the organization has to develop the strategy of recruitment. This includes the decisions made and standards set over the types of candidates, their qualification and educational background, their work experiences, the interpersonal skills, their talents, and knacks that are important, significant, and decisive in candidates for achieving this job. The recruitment strategy is the first step towards making and performing a recruitment process in a sound manner.

The next steps usually followed in all the recruiting organization is determining if the recruitment is internal or external. Internal recruit is well known for recruitment. it involves recruiting the existing employees of the organization for another and completely different sector. This change the job position of existing employees and this phenomenon is very famous in developed countries a lot. This recruitment holds its basis on the&nbsp.complete background information provided to the recruiting board in order to aid the process. This type of recruitment follows the rules and regulations as determined by the organization in a very strict manner, as there is always a chance of favoritism and biasing while performing internal recruitment.&nbsp.

Provide a 4 pages analysis while answering the following question: Main Aspects Of The Successful Concert. Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide. An abstract is required. Amidst all the numerous instruments the audience was still able to concentrate on the performance and get the message clearly instead of being distracted by the instruments. However, I felt that some of the pieces were given a rather cold and unemotional performance than they deserved. The performers could have put more effort to make the pieces more lovely and alluring. Nevertheless, overall performance was insightful and great and left the audience feeling satisfied with no chance of regretting their decision to attend the concert. If I were to rate the concert, I would give the performers 8 out of 10.

The first performance was three dances from The Three-Cornered Hat. The first piece of the three dances performed was the Neighbors Dance. The composer is Manuel de Falla, a Spanish man renowned for his magnificent compositions. The style period represented by this composition is modernity. The composition is based on a storybook that features three main characters, the Corregidor, the Miller, and Miller’s wife. The Neighbors Dance is a leisurely performance where Miller together with his wife joins their neighbor in a joyful dance. The genre represented in the performance of this piece is ballet. Ballet is a musical genre in the form of a dance involving formal steps and gestures. The feature that stood out most about the piece during the performance was the rhythm and passion that kept the audience captivated. Though the good application of rhythm achieved a soft and enchanting performance, I felt that this piece came out tense and dry. Regardless, it still was a superb display of talent, practice, dedication, and mastery of techniques by the performers.

Provide a 4 pages analysis while answering the following question: Applications of Raman spectroscopy in drug design/development/formulation/manufacture chain. Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide. An abstract is required. There are two main types of Ramon spectrometer namely the dispersive and the Fourier Transform (FT) types (Henson & Lowry, 2006). The best one to use depends upon what samples need to be analyzed.

Raman spectroscopy is being used in numerous fields including the pharmaceutical, the carbon and diamond industry, material science, gemology, geology and mineralogy and in forensic science (http://www.renishaw.com/en/raman-spectroscopy-applications–6259 accessed at 13:45 on 28/4/2010). It is so widely used that it even has a journal called the ‘Journal of Raman spectroscopy dedicated to articles relating to the use of this technique (http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/3420/home accessed at 7:02 on 28/4/2010). In this essay, the focus will be on the pharmaceutical industry. Raman spectroscopy is used in drug design, development, formulation and in the manufacture chain. However, the focus as of now will be on how Raman spectroscopy aids in drug development. Numerous examples will be provided to illustrate cases where this technique was used effectively in the development of various drugs.

One of the main applications of Raman spectroscopy in the development of drugs is in the analysis of polymorphs (Henson & Lowry, 2006). Polymorphs are compounds that exist in more than one crystalline form and can be differentiated based on dissimilarities in their physical and chemical properties (Henson & Lowry, 2006). Maintaining control of the polymorphic stage of a compound is essential to development of drugs due to the differences in the different states (Hassan et al, 2008). A good example of this is in the case of a drug called Salmeterol Xinofoate which is used in the treatment of obstructive airway diseases. This drug exists in two forms, I and II of which I is stable and II is not as stable.
