Identify the presenting problem for the case study you selected. (Remember the presenting problem has to be framed from the perspective of role theory. For example, the presenting problem can be framed within the context of role functioning).

This week, you will use role theory to apply to your chosen case study. In other words, your theoretical orientation—or lens—is role theory as you analyze the case study.

Use the same case study that you chose in Week 2. (Remember, you will be using this same case study throughout the entire course). Use the “Dissecting a Theory and Its Application to a Case Study” worksheet to help you dissect the theory. You do not need to submit this handout. It is a tool for you to use to dissect the theory, and then you can employ the information in the table to complete your assignment.

To prepare:

  • Review and focus on the same case study that you used in Week 2.
  • Review the websites and guides for developing PowerPoint skills found in the Learning Resources.
  • Record presentation using CaptureSpace.

By Day 7

Submit a narrated PowerPoint presentation using Kaltura Media that includes 11 to 12 slides.

  • Each slide should be written using bullet points, meaning no long paragraphs of written text should be in the slides.
  • Include a brief narration of less than 30 seconds for each slide (i.e., the narration takes the place of any written paragraphs, while the bullet points provide context and cues for the audience to follow along).

Your presentation should address the following:

  • Identify the presenting problem for the case study you selected. (Remember the presenting problem has to be framed from the perspective of role theory. For example, the presenting problem can be framed within the context of role functioning).
  • Identify all the relevant roles assumed by the client.
  • Analyze the social expectations and social and cultural norms revolving around the role, social position, and role scripts of one of the roles assumed by the client.
  • Explain the role and social position of the social worker in working with the client in the case study.
  • Describe how the role(s) and social position(s) assumed by the social worker will influence the relationship between the social worker and the client.
  • Identify three assessment questions that are guided by role theory that you will ask the client to better understand the problem.
  • Identify and describe two interventions that are aligned with the presenting problem and role theory.
  • Identify one outcome that you would measure if you were to evaluate one of the interventions you would implement to determine if the intervention is effective.
  • Evaluate one advantage and one limitation in using role theory in understanding the case.

Be sure to:

  • Identify and correctly reference the case study you have chosen.
  • Use literature to support your claims.
  • Use APA formatting and style.
  • Include the reference list on the last slide.

Design an experiment in which you teach a dog how to fetch. Include shaping and continuous reinforcement as components of your experiment.

Imagine that you are working at an agency that serves victims of domestic violence. You have been asked by the agency’s clinical director to create a trauma-informed care therapy program for victims of domestic violence.

Write a 700-1,050-word essay describing the program you would want to create. Address the following in your essay:

1.Describe how you would do a needs assessment to determine the need for such a program. Would you use quantitative or qualitative tools? Why?

2.What tool would you use to measure the outcome of the program? Would you use a quantitative or a qualitative tool? Why?

3.Research one trauma-informed care intervention you would recommend to the clinical director and evaluate its effectiveness.

Discuss its validity and reliability as an intervention. Was the research conducted based on quantitative or qualitative measures?

Include a minimum of three scholarly resources in your essay.  Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Operant conditioning has many uses in our everyday lives. Behavior modification uses mostly operant methods in an attempt to change undesirable behaviors such as bad habits. Similar principles are also used in behavioral therapy for a wide range of psychological disorders. Closer to home, operant conditioning can be used to modify the behavior of children and to train pets. In this exercise, we will look at how an animal can be trained by using reinforcement of desired behavior.

  • How can the principles of operant conditioning be applied to changing behavior? How does reinforcement contribute to behavior change?

  • Explain the principles and processes involved in operant conditioning

Design an experiment in which you teach a dog how to fetch. Include shaping and continuous reinforcement as components of your experiment.

Next, train the dog to perform under the appropriate schedule of reinforcement. This exercise will allow you to use the operant conditioning principle of reinforcement to train a dog to fetch. By reinforcing the dog with food, you will be able to increase the desired behavior over time. This same technique can be used for training zoo/circus animals or for helping children to develop good habits.

After completing the experiment, view the brief video Pigeon Ping Pong (Links to an external site.). The same technique you just used to promote a simple behavior was used in the experiment shown to build up a more complex series of behaviors. Using a word processor, write a brief report (about one page, double spaced) describing the changes that you have observed in your dog’s behavior via shaping and continuous reinforcement. What behaviors would you have noticed if you had stopped reinforcement? What behavior did you condition? What reinforcement schedule did you use to condition the behavior?

Be sure to use the correct vocabulary related to operant conditioning and to relate your observations to operant principles. Sources of information need to be documented with citations and references in APA format. Then give an example of how this technique could be applied to changing the behavior of an animal or a person.

Review all of the scenarios involving Jack throughout this week.  What are the key aspects of Jack’s life that play a role in his current negotiation?

Jack is successful in getting a raise in salary. He can now afford a new minivan and a bigger home for his family. But before he purchases a minivan, he decides to privately sell his sports car. After all, he was successful in negotiating a higher salary, so how hard could it be to negotiate a good price on his vehicle?

Within a day of posting his sports car for $19,000 in the local newspaper, Jack received several offers for his sports car. His sister, Jill, offered him $16,000. His neighbor Alex offered him $17,000 and some guy named Bob offered him $18,000. Jack wants to wait a few more days to see if more offers will come to him. Although he wants $19,000 for his sports car, he knows his BATNA (Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement) is $18,000.

Knowing your BATNA—the best alternative action or outcome of a favorable value that you are willing to take if your current negotiated agreement does not produce an optimal result—is important in any negotiation. With additional preparation and persuasion strategies, it can be leveraged to achieve successful negotiated outcomes. For this week’s Assignment, you apply BATNA along with persuasion strategies to the scenario involving Jack detailed above.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Review all of the scenarios involving Jack throughout this week.  What are the key aspects of Jack’s life that play a role in his current negotiation?
  • Think about how using BATNA as a preparation strategy might improve Jack’s chances of a successful negotiated outcome. What are all of Jack’s available alternatives? Which of those alternatives are the most promising and practical?
  • Consider the application of specific persuasion strategies in Jack’s car sale negotiations. How will Jack’s credibility, language use, and tactics prove important to achieving a successful negotiation outcome?

The Assignment:

Submit a 3-page paper addressing the following:

  • Briefly describe Jack’s negotiation situation using the five Ws: who, what, when, where, and why.
  • Identify the BATNA and all available alternatives for Jack’s negotiation situation.
  • Explain how each of the alternatives you have identified would help Jack achieve a successful negotiation.
  • Explain two persuasive strategies that might be used for a successful outcome.
  • Explain the outcome of Jack’s negotiation based on your application of BATNA and persuasion strategies and how both additional preparation and persuasion strategies affected the outcome.
