Case Application: Violet

Resources

This discussion is based on the following case situation:

Violet was a student in human services. She enrolled in school as a single mom with three children, ages 3, 12, and 15. Violet had served in the military for three years and was receiving funding from the Armed Services. She still struggled to provide for herself and her family while she was in school. Her eldest girl needed special medical services since she was a diabetic and had allergies. She had been hospitalized four times last year when she experienced breathing difficulties. Her 12-year-old son had learning difficulties and psychological problems. The school officials and the school psychologist recommend a special school for at least six months. Child care is required for her 3-year-old while she is in school (Woodside & McClam, p. 56).

List the services you believe this family needs and identify which model would best represent each of the services on your list.

Evaluate the properties of the instrument, how you would revise or  improve it, and recommendations for further study of the instrument.

Choose a nutrition topic that relates to you and a change you need to make and not just “I need to eat more fruits and vegetables” because we all need that. But, research a topic and tell the class.

Nutrition today may be confusing and with all the foods around us we have to make some important decisions. Just try to checkout at a grocery store and look at all the candy and chips. Should you just buy one or stick to a good diet. We need such willpower today. Overeating and giant portions have taken over. Ever eat at Cheesecake Factory (yes, factory) and look at the portions. You know the portions are enough for 2 – 3 Before participating in this discussion read chapter 3. Decide what is important to you. Is it the food pyramid, reading a food label, eating for nutrition, paying special attention to the fat content, calories, dietary fiber, antioxidants or supplements? Choose a nutrition topic that relates to you and a change you need to make and not just “I need to eat more fruits and vegetables” because we all need that. But, research a topic and tell the class.

Include one of your favorite food you like to eat and tell us why or why not you should be eating this particular food. Analyze the nutritional label by telling us whether is has too much fat, carbohydrates. protein, too much sugar, salt, etc. Use real numbers from the label and back up your statements.

Comment on one other classmate and their findings. Remember, even strategies such as, why breakfast is important or eating in fast-food restaurants is not recommended, etc. You may create your own topic. Write at least one paragraph.

Full credit will not be given for this discussion until you have included:

  • information from a food label
  • numbers from a food label (carbohydrates, proteins, fats)

Assignment 2: Finding Your Place on the Scholar–Practitioner Continuum

An I/O professional has the unique opportunity to both participate in research for the development of the field and apply in practice the fruits of such research efforts. I/O professionals may suggest new lines of research or even conduct their own scientific studies. Conversely, I/O professionals may choose to focus exclusively on the practitioner side of the continuum.

Using the Argosy University online library resources, locate an empirical article that represents a strong example of the dual nature of I/O research and practice. Then, do the following:

  • Analyze and critique the article by following the Argosy University online article critique guidelines.
  • Clearly indicate the elements in the article that are I/O research-oriented and those that are I/O-applied practice-oriented.
  • Considering your own career aspirations, explain where you think you will be on the research, practitioner, or scholar continuum.

Support your statements with appropriate examples and scholarly references.

Your final product will be a 3- to 5-page Microsoft Word document written in APA format and utilize at least three sources from professional literature. Professional literature may include the Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, and .gov). Your paper should be written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
