Identify the three methodologies selected as well as the research question you proposed for those methodological designs. Write one to two paragraphs which presents a purpose for the research based on that methodology.

Methodologies

1. Phenomenological Research.”

2.”Grounded Theory Research.”

3.”Ethnographic Research.”

Revise the topic you submitted for Unit 4 Assignment 1 based on the feedback you received:

  1. Select three of the five methodologies presented in Unit 3.
  2. Identify the three methodologies selected as well as the research question you proposed for those methodological designs.
  3. Write one to two paragraphs which presents a purpose for the research based on that methodology.

Note that the purpose of research is to answer the research  question and obtain new knowledge related to the topic based on the  direction set by the research question.

Make sure that you do the following:

  1. Clearly identify three of the five methods described in Unit 3.
  2. For each of the three methods, include one research question that  aligns with that methodology (three research questions each of which  align with a particular method).
  3. In 1–2 paragraphs, provide a rationale for the purpose of utilizing each method to answer the research question.

The assignment should be formatted as follows:

  1. Section 1: Your revised topic.
  2. Section 2: Identify the first method, as well as the research  question that aligns with that method. Then, present the 2–3 paragraph  rationale that describes the purpose of the research.
  3. Section 3: Identify the second method, as well as the research  question that aligns with that method. Then, present the 2–3 paragraph  rationale that describes the purpose of the research.
  4. Section 4: Identify the third method, as well as the research  question that aligns with that method. Then, present the 2–3 paragraph  rationale that describes the purpose of the research.
  5. Section 5: APA formatted reference page. (The content of your  assignment should be supported with appropriate academic sources and  include both citations and references in APA format.)

Post an explanation of how the cultural practice you personally experienced or that you know of an experience from a socio-emotional development perspective is similar to or is different from the practice you read about in your Learning Resources.

Cultural behaviors and practices vary dramatically around the globe, though no one practice is more effective than the other. These cultural behaviors and practices not only enrich the lives of children but also impact child development, group dynamics, and all aspects related to thinking (e.g., decision making). Thus, all domains of psychology—affective, behavioral, and cognition are impacted by culture.

For this Discussion, you will explore the impact of culture from birth to adolescent’s socio-emotional development. You also will examine cultural practices in childhood development and the impact on adult outcomes.

To Prepare:

  • Different cultural practices in childhood might relate to outcomes in adulthood. Consider one of the following aspects that you have experienced or you may know of an experience for this Discussion:
    • child rearing practices
    • discipline
    • attachment
    • co-sleeping
    • emotional management
    • peers and play
  • This week’s Learning Resources provide you with different sources related to different cultural practices in childhood. From your readings, select a different culture other than your own to complete this Discussion post.

By Day 3

Post an explanation of how the cultural practice you personally experienced or that you know of an experience from a socio-emotional development perspective is similar to or is different from the practice you read about in your Learning Resources. Further explain how different cultural practices in childhood regarding this practice might lead to different or similar outcomes in adulthood.

(Note: No one practice is typically more effective than the other, however, there are some practices that are quite different, and scholars debate if there are indeed some practices which are harmful, unhealthy, or even unsafe.)

Note: Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources and identify current relevant literature to support your work.

Do you plan to pursue the Human Services Board Certified Practitioner (HS-BCP) credential? How will this help you in your new position?

Prior to beginning work on this journal, read Chapter 1 in your text, Moffat’s Helping Those in Need: Human Service Workers, Neukreg’s The Holland Code of Members of the National Organization for Human Services: A Preliminary Study of Human Services Professionals, and HS-BCP Credential (Links to an external site.). Your journal entry can be informally written in first person and should contain approximately 500 to 700 words. If you know precisely the position you hope to hold in the human services profession after finishing your degree, then this will be fairly simple. If you do not know what position you are going to seek after graduation, then focus on a population that interests you most at this current time (e.g., homeless individuals, military families, domestic violence victims, foster families, etc.) and the type of role you think that you would like to serve with that population (e.g., leadership or management, direct services with clients or case management, etc.).

In your journal,

  • Conduct a search, and report what skills and qualifications are involved in this position.
  • Continue the search to identify the overall compensation, degree requirements, licensure requirements (if any), and any other helpful information that will guide your journaling on this position.
  • Do you plan to pursue the Human Services Board Certified Practitioner (HS-BCP) credential? How will this help you in your new position?
  • What excites you the most about this position? What concerns you?

WEEK 1 Learning Activity

Evolution of Human Services: Designing the Historical Context

[WLO: 1] [CLOs: 1, 3, 4]

Prior to beginning work on this learning activity, Read Chapter 2 in the assigned text and LoPatin-Lummis’ Protesting About Pauperism: Poverty, Politics and Poor Relief in Late-Victorian England, 1870-1900. If you want to dive further, check Loiacono’s A People’s History of Poverty in America in the Recommended Resources section this week.

Historically, poverty has been the impetus for developing a social welfare system and related policies. Beginning in the 11th century, create a timeline of the history and evolution of human services to current time. You are welcome to be as creative as you desire with graphics, and various tools, and so forth. If you have other presentation ideas, then please refer to your instructor to determine if the idea is acceptable.

  • Create a six- to 10-slide PowerPoint with speaker notes: (see How to Make a PowerPoint Presentation (Links to an external site.) for assistance); or (
  • Draw the timeline, annotate it with 350 to 500 words, scan, and then upload it; or
  • Create a timeline collage annotated with 350 to 500 words with photos from magazines or scanned from books, online graphics, and so forth.

During your observation, consider the following: Do these features encourage saying hello, conversation, or other neighborly contacts, even with people you don’t know?

Instructions

Take a walk around your neighbor and look for environmental features that encourage or discourage social contact or neighboring as discussed by Kuo, Sullivan, and Coley (1998) and Sullivan, Kuo and DePooter (2004).
Make a note of features that might promote community contacts: front porches where people sit, pedestrian walkways and sidewalks, streets with less automobile traffic and more pedestrian traffic, public areas where children can safely play while adults can both supervise them and talk to each other.

During your observation, consider the following: Do these features encourage saying hello, conversation, or other neighborly contacts, even with people you don’t know? Does the lack of such facilities discourage such contact? Are there other features that encourage contact?

Next, visit common spaces such as parks or playgrounds, no matter how small. During your observation, consider the following: Is there pedestrian traffic and neighborly contact? Are spaces open to public view in ways that help keep them safe? Does greenery, benches, or other features promote neighborly contacts (Kuo et al. 1998)?

Write an essay in which you discuss your findings in relationship to your understanding of what is involved in assessing the individuals within their environment. Provide recommendations to help make the neighborhood more encouraging for social contact.

Length: 3-5 pages

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to the topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be careful to adhere to Northcentral’s Academic Integrity Policy.
