  • Utilize the Relationship Satisfaction Scale Relationship Satisfaction Scale as a discussion and reflection with regard to your own intimate relationships.
  • Incorporate theories of marriage (p. 380, homogamy, exchange theory, vulnerability-stress-adaptation model).  How do these ideas compare or contrast with your own experience?
  • For any of the above, compare and contrast your own experience with personal and/or love relationships and the models/theories presented by the text or in class.  Utilize in-class handouts and exercises as examples.  Discuss ‘how’ or ‘why’ you see these as either fitting with or contradicting your own experience.

choose from the following topics related to material from Chapters 10-13.  To be eligible for full crit, journals must be 3 pages, double spaced, typewritten, size 12 font (Times New Roman or Arial).

Relationships (Chapter 11)

Describe the impact early intervention might have for individuals with hearing impairment (including social, communication-related, and emotional repercussions).

Low-Incidence Exceptionalities: The Deaf Culture

There is a greater variety of cultures than those related to ethnicity, religion, or geography. For example, there is also the deaf culture. One low-incidence exceptionality you may have learned about in children is deafness. Although it might seem an easy decision to utilize technology such as cochlear implants to enable someone to hear, there are many issues to consider.

View the following video:

Based on your readings and analysis of the video, address the following:

  • Explain the lessons individuals from the hearing and deaf cultures learned from each other.
  • Describe the impact early intervention might have for individuals with hearing impairment (including social, communication-related, and emotional repercussions).
  • Synthesize the information from your readings and from the video to explain how you might utilize the information to work with children with low-incidence exceptionalities (beyond hearing impairment) and their families. Provide a minimum of three recommendations.

Write your initial response in 300–500 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Decision-Making Table

For this assignment, you will apply analytical reasoning and identify strategies for self-assessment to reconsider your decision-making patterns. You will need to complete a table with four columns to complete this task.

In the first column, you will provide two personal examples where you acted in accordance with one or more of the patterns of irrational or unethical decision-making.

In the second column, you will identify which pattern(s) of irrational or unethical decision-making applies to your situations.

In the third column, you will identify any characteristics of egocentrism or sociocentrism, as well as any pathological tendencies of mind, involved in your thought process.

Finally, in the fourth column, share how you could have applied the keys to sound decision-making to approach the situation more rationally.

Expand upon the information included in the slide and do not simply restate it. Please ensure the speaker notes include a minimum of 50 words.

Develop a PowerPoint presentation of 15-18 slides, addressing clinical issues in the elderly and neglect and abuse of dependent adults and the elderly. Create speaker notes for each of the slides. Include the following in your presentation:

Part 1: Clinical Issues (cognitive decline, depression, anxiety, substance use, etc.)

  1. Physical consequence of the clinical issue
  2. Emotional consequences of the clinical issue
  3. Cognitive consequence of the clinical issue.
  4. Spiritual consequences of the clinical issue

Part 2: Abuse and Neglect

  1. Common forms of vulnerable adult and elderly neglect.
  2. Warning signs of vulnerable adult and elderly abuse.
  3. Legal and ethical considerations for reporting abuse and/or neglect of vulnerable adults and the elderly.

In addition, include slides for a title, introduction, conclusion, and references (four slides minimum).

Include a minimum of four scholarly references in your presentation.

Include speaker notes below each content-related slide that represent what would be said if giving the presentation in person. Expand upon the information included in the slide and do not simply restate it. Please ensure the speaker notes include a minimum of 50 words.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Review several of your colleagues’ posts and respond to at least two of your peers who chose a different case than you . You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse in this discussion.

Week 2 – Discussion

11 unread reply.11 reply.

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

Assessment and Diagnosis “Under the Gun”

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, review Standard 9: Assessment  (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. in the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct and DSM-5.

It is recommended that you read Chapters 4, 7, and 10 in the Sommers-Flanagan and Sommers-Flanagan (2015) e-book, Clinical Interviewing, as well as the Kielbasa, Pomerantz, Krohn, and Sullivan (2004) “How Does Clients’ Method of Payment Influence Psychologists’ Diagnostic Decisions?” and the Pomerantz and Segrist (2006) “The Influence of Payment Method on Psychologists’ Diagnostic Decisions Regarding Minimally Impaired Clients” articles for further information about how payment method influences the assessment and diagnosis process.

For this discussion, you will assume the role of a clinical or counseling psychologist and diagnose a hypothetical client.  Begin by reviewing the PSY650 Week Two Case StudiesPreview the document document and select one of the clients to diagnose.

In your initial post, compare the assessments typically used by clinical and counseling psychologists, and explain which assessment techniques (e.g., tests, surveys, interviews, client records, observational data) you might use to aid in your diagnosis of your selected client. Describe any additional information you would need to help formulate your diagnosis, and propose specific questions you might ask the client in order to obtain this information from him or her. Identify which theoretical orientation you would use with this client and explain how this orientation might influence the assessment and/or diagnostic process. Using the DSM-5 manual, propose a diagnosis for the client in the chosen case study.

Analyze the case and your agency’s required timeline for diagnosing from an ethical perspective. Considering the amount of information you currently have for your client, explain whether or not it is ethical to render a diagnosis within the required timeframe. Evaluate the case and describe whether or not it is justifiable in this situation to render a diagnosis in order to obtain a third party payment.

Guided Response: Review several of your colleagues’ posts and respond to at least two of your peers who chose a different case than you . You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse in this discussion.

In your responses, evaluate whether your peer took into account the ethical guidelines outlined in the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologist and Code of Conduct when he or she assessed and diagnosed the client. Suggest additional questions your peer might ask the client. Propose an alternative diagnosis that might arise from the additional questions you have suggested.
