The online lectures and McMinn suggested some “cautions” or possible negative impacts when using prayer and Scripture in counseling. The importance of those cautions may be better understood in seeking to apply prayer and Scripture with a client. Read the Case Study below and respond to the following:

1. What would you consider to be the most therapeutic use of prayer with this client? Why?

2. What would you consider to be the most therapeutic use of Scripture with this client? Why?

3. As you consider the integration of psychology and theology consider you have been discussing how to integrate theology into this case. What from psychology would you bring to the scenario?

4. How do your responses to the first two questions mesh with your response to the third? Do they integrate?
Case Study:

Mary is a 28-year-old woman who was referred to counseling as part of her discharge plan from a local psychiatric facility to which she was admitted as a result of a suicide attempt.  She was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder.  There was also suspicion that she might have Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).  Mary’s father sexually molested her throughout her childhood.  He was a pastor, and would often quote from the Bible as justification for his abuse of her and in an attempt to keep her quiet, such as “Honor your father and mother” (Exodus 20:12).  At one point, Mary became pregnant by her father.  When she suffered a miscarriage at the hospital, she disclosed the repeated rapes by her father.  Mary grew up in the church.  She reads her Bible regularly; however, she questions why God would allow her father to do what he did to her.  During counseling, she told the therapist that she was still a believer, but that there was a great distance between her and God.

Describe your instructional technique: This might include guided instruction, constructivist theory, discovery learning, experiential learning, problem-based learning, or inquiry-based teaching techniques.

Write a 2–3 page lesson plan for a Standard Operating Procedure.

Note: The assessments in this course build upon each other, so you are strongly encouraged to complete them in sequence.

Learning objectives can be modified for a specific outcome and aligned to instructional activities and techniques to meet the objectives.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

Competency 4: Describe principles of learning to create appropriate instruction and instructional material consistent with learners and the learning context.

Modify learning objectives to a more advanced level of Bloom’s Taxonomy.

Describe an instructional activity that could be used to teach the concepts of the learning objective.

Justify an instructional technique that aligns to the revised objective, with support from the literature.

Competency 5: Explain how educational psychology models enhance learner engagement and mediate issues of learning and performance.

Explain how learning and performance are enhanced by applying models from educational psychology.

Competency 7: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with university expectations for graduate education, including discipline knowledge and current APA formatting standards.

Write clearly and logically, with correct use of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics, and correctly format citations using APA style.

Information storage and retrieval is an important part of intelligence. According to Schunk (2012), information processing theorists have challenged the idea that “learning involves forming associations between stimuli and responses” (p. 165). This assessment covers information processing from a human perspective and is based on the assumption that learners are active seekers of information. Learning is an internal process, not a reaction to a stimulus; it is the acquisition of mental representations.

The beginning of the end of behaviorism as a leading theory of learning came as the information-processing theorists challenged behaviorism’s basic tenets. Information processing is more concerned with internal than external stimuli.

To deepen your understanding, you are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of the business community.

How you would use schemas to increase learning?

How you would use self-regulation and motivation to teach a concept?

In what ways have computer technology and neuroscience impacted learning and memory?

How do the major components of the two store memory model—attention, perception, STM or WM, and LTM—influence the cognitive information processing system?

How would you teach self-efficacy for a specific task to a student whose perceived self-efficacy was low?

Preparation

Learning objectives can be developed for any curriculum and adjusted for any instructional situation by modifying the level of Bloom’s Taxonomy of Learning Domains. You may wish to refer to Bloom’s Taxonomy, linked in Resources, before beginning this assessment.

Scenario

Imagine that you are hired to create a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for a group of flight instructors. Your audience has been introduced to the content, but they would like a more in-depth understanding of the topics. Your job is to revise the existing learning objectives for the SOP and answer questions for each learning objective, so that the corporate representatives can understand the curriculum plan and rationale.

Deliverable

Develop a lesson plan for teaching a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), using the scenario above. Use the lesson plan format of your choice to complete this assessment.

Note: This assessment is designed to allow you demonstrate that you know how to revise objectives for a specific outcome and align the instructional activities and techniques to meet the objectives. You do not need to know anything about a Boeing 747 to complete this assignment. Do not write about a 747 or the meaning of Bloom’s Taxonomy.

Use these hypothetical objectives for your lesson plan:

LO4: Explain what the different flight instruments in the cockpit of a Boeing 747 tell the pilot.

LO6: Explain the items in the Normal Procedures Checklist for preflight in a Boeing 747–400.

In your lesson plan, complete the following for each of the two objectives above:

Upgrade the learning objectives to a more comprehensive level in Bloom’s Taxonomy.

Identify the objective’s level (cognitive domain) on Bloom’s Taxonomy.

Explain how learning and performance are enhanced by applying models from educational psychology.

Describe an instructional activity that could be used to help teach the concepts of the learning objective.

Describe your instructional technique: This might include guided instruction, constructivist theory, discovery learning, experiential learning, problem-based learning, or inquiry-based teaching techniques.

Justify your choice of instructional technique that aligns to the revised objective, with support from the literature.

Elaborate on the technique and explain why you chose it.

Additional Requirements

Written communication: Writing is free of errors that detract from the overall message.

Length: 2–3 pages. Include a reference page.

References: Include a final page of scholarly references.

Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.

Discuss the social/cultural and contextual influences on caregiving/parenting styles in US and around the world. (12 pts)

1) In what 1 major way did Gender Stereotyping influence your development in late childhood. (3 pts)

a. Then from the areas of Similarities/Differences that do exist, select 1 finding from each (Physical, Cognitive, Socio-Emotional…1 from each area) that coincides with your development as a child (ie, what finding would your experience confirm about the similarities/differences between boys and girls in middle late childhood).

i. Physical (5 pts)

ii. Cognitive (5 pts)

iii. Socio-emotional (5 pts)

2)  Explain the Peer Statuses. (5 pts)

a. Then, create a scenario, as if you were a teacher, parent, social worker, and you are working with a “Rejected Child.” Here you are writing a specific scenario, such as “Bill is emotionally reactive. When playing video games, he gets angry at the game and his friends when something goes wrong, to the point of yelling, throwing things, and turning it off! He’ll scream and blame his friends for things that appear accidental. Then he goes back and forth from aggressive bullying his friends into playing his way to whining and acting like a victim that his friends have hurt.”

i. Next, explain the 3 characteristics that contribute to being “Rejected” as they are shown in your scenario (in other words, how does your scenario show the problems Rejected Children have in social relationships?) (11 pts)

b. Lastly, explain a series of interventions and training that help Rejected Children use prosocial skills to make friends, join groups, and overall be more adaptive and well-adjusted. Include at least 4 major parts to your intervention. (14 pts.)

i. YOU MUST AVOID vague generalizations, such as “use coaching.” You must specify the scenario, specify what would be coached, how, etc.

ii. AVOID saying “I would tell…” Telling is not an intervention.

c. This should be written as if you are the expert…training a teacher or parent how to identify, describe, and then intervene with a Rejected Child.

d. For full points, use information from the sections Peer Status, Social Cognition, Bullying, and Connecting with Research: Perspective Taking & Moral Motivation Linked to Bullying.

3) Select a Topic from our Chapters (**choose only 1 below**). You can do this part in your head:)

a. Ch. 11. What makes Inclusive Classroom work? How do children with special needs benefit from quality inclusion?

Topics must be pre approved by the instructor and need to be declared by week 6.  All topic presentations must include at least 3 references. Have a handout for the class with the outline and the three references. You are advised to use peer reviewed journal articles.

Purpose of Assignment: To demonstrating knowledge of mandated reporting requirements.

Instructions:

Consider the following scenario:

You are employed as a school social worker. One of your students, 15-year-old Shelly, meets with you and says, “My dad has a bad temper. Last night he got mad at my mom. My mom wants to divorce him. My dad freaked out and said, ‘If you leave me, that’ll be the last mistake you make-I’ll get you!'” My mom is planning on leaving my dad this weekend. I’m scared.”

In a two-page paper address the following in narrative form:

  • What elements of this case constitute reasonable suspicion thus mandating a hotline call to child protective services? Be specific. Give examples.
  • Who else might you contact to provide further support and protection for the client?
  • Write a short case note in third person documenting what the client reported, the hotline number you called, the name of the hotline worker and your consultation with your supervisor.
    • Remember, writing in the third person means not using Ime or my in the case note. You can say things like, “The client reports that she…” “Supervisor was contacted and made aware of the situation.”
