Develop legally sound solutions to ethical challenges that are supported by ethical theories, principles, models, and best practices.

As Baby Boomers are retiring, and younger generations continue to enter the workforce, organizations are experiencing growing pains as differing personalities and work ethics impact the ability of employees to effectively work together. The Society of Industrial/Organizational Psychology regularly highlights the changes in workforce as one of its predominant issues. As an I/O practitioner, you will need to be able to work with multi-generational groups to address issues and concerns in the workplace.

The Times, They Are A-Changin’

You have recently been employed as an I/O practitioner to help The ABC Company navigate issues the company is facing as a result of shifts in organizational culture.

The ABC Company is a family-owned business employing multiple generations in the workforce. Recently, the reins of the company have been passed from father to sons, who are the third generation in the family to lead the company.

The ABC Company has been a top producer of widgets for over a 40 years, but in recent years, they have not been able to retain their share of the marketplace. The new heads of the company feel that changes are needed to update the company and are in the process of implementing a variety of new business practices, including data analytics, leveraging technology in new and innovative ways and adopting workforce-related policies that are reflective of the work values and practices embraced by younger generations of professionals.

Many of these changes are meeting with resistance from managers and employees who have been with the company for decades, and relationships between long-term employees and newer employees are strained. The heads of the company have hired you to help all employees successfully navigate the changes to the corporate culture, and learn to work together successfully.

Overview: The journal activity in this course is private between you and the instructor. However, you will be discussing your work with your topic in future discussions with your peers. This week, you spent some time reflecting on persuasion in your everyday life, and you shared some potential topic ideas with your peers and instructor. But why is persuasion so important? Let’s think about that a little bit in this journal assignment.

Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:

1. After exploring the Opposing Viewpoints Database and reviewing your brainstorming activity, identify two issues that are related to your career or degree:

a. Write a fully developed paragraph for issue one (5–8 sentences).

i. Explain at least two clear arguable sides to the issue.

ii. Explain how the issue relates to your field or degree, or your potential field or degree.

b. Write a fully developed paragraph for issue two (5–8 sentences).

i. Explain at least two clear arguable sides to the issue.

ii. Explain how the issue relates to your field or degree, or your potential field or degree.

2. After exploring the arguments related to your issues, take a moment to consider the bigger picture. Then, briefly reflect (in 1 to 2 paragraphs) on the importance of persuasion for the issue you are most likely to write about. Be specific in your assignment; this information will help guide you as you work on your project in the coming weeks.

a. Identify which side you might argue if you plan to pursue this issue in your final persuasive essay.

b. Identify your potential audience and why your topic would be relevant to them.

· Provide an evaluation of the group research design that they have chosen, and criteria that your colleagues have generated (choice of outcome and method of evaluation) from the perspective of the stakeholder whom you have chosen.

Visit the Research Methods research guide in the Ashford University Library and search the databases for a minimum of one peer-reviewed journal article published within the last 10 years about each of the research designs you selected. The articles must not be research studies using the designs. Instead, they must be about how to conduct a study using the design. Examples of acceptable articles for this assignment are listed at the Suggested Articles tab in the Research Methods research guide.
In your paper, briefly outline the topic you selected for your Final Research Proposal in Week One and apply the scientific method by suggesting both a specific research question and a hypothesis for the topic. Evaluate your chosen peer-reviewed articles summarizing each and explaining how the research design described could be useful for designing original research on your topic. Compare and contrast the paradigms or worldviews inherent in the methodology associated with each research design.
