Review several of your colleagues’ posts and respond to at least two of your peers by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse in this discussion.

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

Problems in Designing an Experimental Research Study

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, please read the required articles by Skidmore (2008) and Henrich, Heine, & Norenzayan (2010). Carefully review the PSY635 Week Two Discussion ScenarioPreview the document. Apply the scientific method to the information included within the scenario and develop a null and a research hypothesis based on it. Using the hypotheses you have developed, compare the characteristics of the different experimental research designs discussed in the Skidmore (2008) article and choose the one that is most appropriate to adequately test your hypotheses. Identify potential internal threats to validity and explain how you might mitigate these threats. Apply ethical principles to the proposed research and describe the implications of this type of research in terms of the population(s) and cultural consideration(s) represented in the sample(s) within the scenario.

Guided Response: Review several of your colleagues’ posts and respond to at least two of your peers by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse in this discussion.

After reading your colleague’s null and research hypotheses, do you feel that these accurately respond to the scenario? Please provide a rationale for your agreement or disagreement. Evaluate your colleague’s proposed research design and explain whether or not you agree with the research design chosen providing a brief rationale for your opinion citing the resources as necessary. What potential threats to internal validity do you see that your colleague has not identified? Consider the ethical implications your colleague has described and identify any other potential threats to external validity your colleague has not mentioned. Recommend potential solutions to the areas of both internal and external validity in the research design proposed by your colleague.

Justify the appropriateness of two instruments that you would administer for the type of evaluation you are conducting.

The purpose of this assignment is to create a rough draft of the forensic evaluation that you selected in the previous paperChoice of Evaluation Methodology from the following four options:

  • 1. Competency to confess (waive Miranda rights).
  • 2.Sanity at the time of the offense charged (insanity).
  • 3.MY CHOICE-  Independent      Medical Evaluation (IME) for psychological damages.
  • 4. Juvenile court evaluation for amenability to treatment.

Instructions:

For this assignment, you will begin to complete an outline of key components of a forensic evaluation, which will be further completed in your final paper. In this initial draft of your forensic evaluation, include the following components (a forensic evaluation generally has all of these elements, although some evaluators may provide more background information on the evaluee than others—many examples of forensic evaluations are provided in Chapter 19 of your Melton textbook):

1. Introduction

Explain the legal question being asked.

Invent a fictional client to be evaluated and describe all relevant characteristics of this evaluee (evaluee name, gender and age).

2. Informed Consent

Include a paragraph explaining what you would tell the evaluee about the nature and purpose of the evaluation, including any limitations to confidentiality and release of information.

3. Interview Questions

Based on the particular type of evaluation you selected, include a section describing the questions related to the referral question that you plan to ask your evaluee.

4. Collateral Information

Include other third-party information relevant to the legal question being asked that you would obtain.

5. Test Battery

Justify the appropriateness of two instruments that you would administer for the type of evaluation you are conducting.

Use the Sample Forensic Evaluation the link below to assist in formatting your evaluation. Note that your forensic evaluation does not require this level of detail in the background history.

What types of supports can be provided to help the student meet their transition goals? 5. What types of organizations can be included in the transition plan to support the student’s goals?

Details:

As students transition into high school, they will also begin considering and planning what they want to do after high school. This process is specifically outlined by IDEA for students receiving special education services in public schools. Students need to be involved in the development of their own transition plan, planning for support in post-secondary life.

Imagine collaborating with a Grades 9-12 certified grade special education teacher about transition assessments, plans, goals, and post-secondary transition to help you synthesize the following:

1. Who is involved in the development of the transition plan?

2. How can the student advocate for himself or herself through the development of the transition plan?

3. What types of assessments are used to develop the transition plan?

4. What types of supports can be provided to help the student meet their transition goals?

5. What types of organizations can be included in the transition plan to support the student’s goals?

6. Ask at least two additional questions of your own.

In 250-500 words, summarize and reflect upon your observations and collaboration. Explain how you will use your findings in your future professional practice.
