He has been married and divorced twice because his spouses could not abide the constant interruptions that cannabis use caused.  What would his ICD-10 diagnosis be?

1.  Diagnose the following scenario:  Mark’s parents notice, one night at dinner, that Mark (16 years old) is acting “weird.”  He was unusually giddy, talkative and seemed to jump from topic to topic, often not making any sense at all.  At first they thought it was funny, but then his behavior became down-right bizzare.  His dad even jokingly asked, “what have you been smoking?”   His mom began to worry later and went to his room to check on him.  He was supposed to be doing his homework, but he was just lying on the bed with his eyes open, mumbling and would not respong or, if he did, would respond very slowly to his mom’s questions.  His mom called his dad in and he noticed that Mark’s pupils were dialated.  This is when they knew that Mark was on something.  They rushed him to the emergency room.  The doctors knew that it was adrug reaction, but they weren’t sure of the drug.  They finally figured out that mark had found an old prescription of OxcyContin, an opioid,  that had been prescribed after his dad had a minor surgery.  Mark had never used drugs before and he was not delirius or having hallucinations.  What is his ICD-10-CM code.

2.  What does the term “Comorbid” mean?”  Give a very brief example.

3.  Todd has been smoking Cannabis (Marijuana) for 20 years.  He used to smoke it only on weekends for recreation, but now practically chain smokes cannabis to get the same effect.  He has tried to stop many times before, has lost jobs because of it and has been arrested several times.   He has been married and divorced twice because his spouses could not abide the constant interruptions that cannabis use caused.  What would his ICD-10 diagnosis be?

4.  What does the term “assigned gender” mean?

5.  The Smiths had a child that was born with both sets of genitalia (intersex).  They decided to have the small underdeveloped penis removed and to raise the child as a girl.   At about 4 years of age, they began to have trouble with their daughter because she wanted to dress like a boy, play with typically boy type toys and hated the long hair that her parents made her keep.  Diagnostically, what might the Smiths be dealing with?

6.  For the scenario in question 5 (the Smith’s child) what would the typical developmental course be and what are some ways that the parents might help help mitigate some of the distress for the child?

Describe the model of treatment that you think best applies to the Robertson family.  Describe how this model of treatment will work better for the Robertsons than the other models would.

You are now conducting the third family session with the Robertsons. The father has been ordered by the court to participate. During this session, you give each of the family members the task of writing down what they think is unhealthy about how they interact with each other. After they have finished writing their statements, they read them aloud. Marie states, “Well, when my son asks me to help him with his homework, I tell him ‘in just a minute,’ and I never get around to it. I have even fallen asleep and forgotten that he even asked for my help. When Dan is talking to me, I simply ignore him.” Peter states, “When I don’t get help from my mom with my homework, I just quit trying, and I see my mom ignore my father so I ignore him too.” Dan states, “I yell at my wife and kid all the time. I feel so angry most of the time.”

In 400-600 words, answer the following:

  • Describe the model of treatment that you think best applies to the Robertson family.
  • Describe how this model of treatment will work better for the Robertsons than the other models would.

Deceptions in Research

What about the idea of using deception in research. How does that line-up with a Christian Worldview? There are very few areas that utilize deception other than Social Psychology. For social psychologists, deception is used all the time. Before the research is approved to go forward, the researcher needs to prove to the Institutional Review Board (IRB), that there is sufficient benefit to the research, which outweighs this breach of integrity.

Should we allow any deception in research?

Create a 10- to 12- slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation describing cultural, research-based models and how they help clarify the organization’s core values.

Discussions are fundamental to shared learning, so please be sure to participate early and often!

After you have completed the Reading, and without reviewing your classmate’s responses, post your initial response to the following Discussion. Your post should be at least 350 words in length and should extend the Discussion of the group supported by your course materials and/or other appropriate resources.

After you have submitted your initial post, take time to review your classmates’ responses and to respond specifically and substantially to at least two of them. Refer to the Discussion Rubric in Course Resources for specific grading explanation.

Animal research is highly controversial, and yet it is often used when studying learning and behavior. How does animal research provide useful information applicable to human beings? Discuss the importance of animal research in better understanding any of the following issues (or provide your own example):

  • addiction
  • depression/anxiety
  • phobias
  • response to rewards or punishment

In this unit, you have explored the idea that learning serves a valuable purpose to the organism. It often increases survival and provides improved quality of life opportunities. In these ways, learning is “adaptive.” In this Discussion, describe an example of how learning can be “maladaptive.”

Imagine you are a consultant for an organization, and they would like you to work on developing their core values. The organization would like their core values to reflect key attributes of their culture.

Select an organization, such as a company, community group, or nonprofit organization.

Create a 10- to 12- slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation describing cultural, research-based models and how they help clarify the organization’s core values.

Include at least three credible, peer-reviewed references.

Format the citations in your presentation consistent with APA guidelines.

Identify the next step in your academic and/or professional career after graduation. Whether applying to a graduate or professional school or for employment, it is common that applicants are asked to write personal statements.

Assignment 1

Read Chapter 8 in your course text and review the subfields listed in Table 8.3. Locate an additional outside source that lists subfields in psychology or a related field that includes one or more subfields not listed in Table 8.3. Cite the additional source according to APA guidelines in your initial post:

  • Which      three subfields in psychology that most interest you?
  • What      personal characteristics (knowledge, skills, abilities) do you possess      that might make these areas a good fit for you?
  • Which      three subfields interest you the least?
  • If you      were challenged with creating a new subfield, what would be the name of      your subfield and what would it consist of?

Assignment 2

Identify the next step in your academic and/or professional career after graduation. Whether applying to a graduate or professional school or for employment, it is common that applicants are asked to write personal statements. Unfortunately, some applicants have developed habits frowned upon by admissions committees and potential employers (e.g., divulging personal or sensitive information about problems or crises).

  • Consider      the prompt: Tell us about yourself      and why you are interested in a position in our graduate program (or      organization).
  • Review the      advice in section 8.4 in your text and write a two-paragraph answer to the      prompt. Your response should be of the quality to be submitted with an      actual application.
