Prior to beginning this assignment, please review all the required readings from the first three weeks as well as the articles you used in your Week 2 Discipline-Based Literature Review. During this course, you have been developing your knowledge in the area of learning and cognition. In the Week 2 assignment, there was special focus on six topics that influence a wide variety of disciplines in psychology and other fields. In the final week of this course, you will develop a Learning and Cognition Handbook based on these topics.

This week, you will write an extensive review and annotated bibliography on one of the six main course topics below:

  • Traditional learning theories: Operant and classical conditioning
  • Traditional learning theories: Behaviorism and social learning theory
  • Attention and memory
  • Decision-Making
  • Language acquisition
  • Organizational and lifelong learning

The topic you choose should be based on the area in which you would most like to develop your knowledge. Your choice should also consider your current interests in psychology and support your future career goals. (*******My future career goals is to become a school Psychologist**********).

As you prepare this assignment, keep in mind that it is designed to assist you with beginning the process of drafting your Learning and Cognition Handbook, which is due in Week 6. It is recommended that your paper be checked in Grammarly (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and through Turnitin (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. prior to submission.

Include the following components in your review:

Introduction: Explain your motivation focusing on your chosen topic and describe how this topic aligns with your future career goals.

Research: Research five Scholarly, Peer-Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. in the Ashford University Library focusing on your chosen topic, and provide an annotated bibliography (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. These articles must provide sufficient information so that they will support your work in the Learning and Cognition Handbook. (See the instructions in Week 6 for further clarification.) Provide a complete reference for each of the five articles. Beneath each reference, provide an annotation that explains the theoretical perspectives, historical trends, and/or empirical research within the article that describe and define your chosen construct.

Conclusion: Provide a concluding paragraph that synthesizes the cognitive learning principles and theories found within the articles as they relate to your chosen construct.

Please no plagiarism and make sure you are able to access all resources on your own before you bid. You need to have scholarly support for any claim of fact or recommendation regarding treatment. APA format also requires headings. Use the prompt each week to guide your heading titles and organize the content of your initial post under the appropriate headings. Remember to use scholarly research from peer-reviewed articles that is current. Please follow the instructions to get full credit for the discussion. Each classmate’s document is attached.

Read your classmates’ postings. Respond to your classmates’ postings.

Respond in one or more of the following ways:

  • Demonstrating basic      consultation skills (e.g., empathy, validation, positive regard, etc.).
  • Utilizing open-ended      questions and perception checking
  • Engaging in collaborative      solution development with your consultee regarding their identified areas      for growth and/or areas for strengthening their portfolio
  • Clarifying what your      consultee would find helpful from you and respond to the consultee’s      needs.

1. Classmate (K. McLean)

Good afternoon Class:

The two parts in my portfolio that I can use help with are in the sections;  Ethical Guidance and believe it or not my introduction.  The ethical guidance section of my portfolio I think can use better guidelines than I have chosen. I think my introduction is weak and can use more of something.

2. Classmate (T. Carter)

Throughout working on this portfolio, I had a hard time identifying protective and risk factors. Identifying factors that could help prevent a client from falling into recidivism or other social problems. I guess for me I assume that each client is different so it is hard to identify it for a particular group of people. As far as areas of competency as a counselor, I find it difficult relating to individuals from different life journeys and sometimes when it’s drug-related I’m frankly a little scared. I also struggle in the area of public speaking but I would like to eventually work in groups. I enjoyed the exercises during Pre-practicum 2 when we worked on hosting a group. That’s more than 2 areas but I welcome the peer consultation.

3. Classmate (J. Herring)

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback in areas of my portfolio where I am struggling a bit.

One of the areas I feel that needs more work is Diversity and Ethical Considerations. I feel that I am hitting the talking points in a round about way but am not drawing specifics to the areas of concern. For example, in Hawaii culture and diversity is what makes this island so unique to the rest of the world however I don’t feel I am getting that point across well enough.

The other area I struggle with is Theories of Prevention. Although I found a lot of research that would support Solution-Focused group type therapy for homeless or at risk youth in this area, I am not sure if the information I provided is enough and clear enough for the reader to understand how this can help to address the homeless population in my community.

Identify whether a generic qualitative approach or a phenomenological approach was used, and describe the characteristics of the research that provide evidence to support the identification.

Qualitative Approaches to Research

For the qualitative article you selected in this unit’s studies, in the Library Search section, address the following:

  • Identify whether a generic qualitative approach or a phenomenological approach was used, and describe the characteristics of the research that provide evidence to support the identification.
  • Identify the key phenomena under investigation.
  • Describe the data collection process, including the role of the researcher.
  • Describe the qualitative approach to analyzing the data in this study.
  • Evaluate the scientific merit of the selected approach. How did the approach used, either phenomenology or generic qualitative, help the researcher answer the research question? How might you have designed this study differently?
  • Post the persistent link for the article in your response. Refer to the Persistent Links and DOIs guide, linked in Resources, to learn how to locate this information in the library databases.
  • Cite all sources in APA style and provide an APA-formatted reference list at the end of your post.

Response Guidelines

After reviewing the discussion postings, choose one peer to respond to. For your response:

  • Follow the persistent link to the article being discussed.
  • Using the language of research, explain how you agree or disagree with your peer’s evaluation, offering your own suggestions for improving the research design.

Resources

you are really going to have to pull in the information about biofules / asia / bugs / etc. I’m having a hard time making the connection.

– check out how APA format does the page numbers on title page.

in the abstract – “topping to this is the…”  is awkward. not sure what ‘topping to this’ means.   The abstract is excellently written but is more of an intro to the stroop effect more than an abstract to the research that you are proposing.  A real abstract gives a few sentences on the history / topic, a few on the current research, the findings, etc  You have to modify it a bit since you aren’t running the experiment but should still be discussing your research ideas, etc.

– look at see what APA format uses instead of ‘Introduction”.

– in the intro, remember the reader has no idea what the topic is so the first two sentences will not make sense to them  (read it without reading the abstract first – they dont tell what the subject is you are talking about).

– Macleod empties Stroop effect (is a word missing?)

–  an overall once over for edits.

dont use contractions.

my last comment is that there appears to be a lot of topics gathered here. Based on the intro, I assumed this was going to be about how you put the stroop effect into effect to test for mental illness.  but it isn’t.  you mention nurses, application to shapes, bilingual, and advertisements. It is hard to cover all of that in one paper and it is hard to follow.   At minimum, you need to use headings and subheadings to try and group various topics.    Since your research is based on bsuiness and marketing, I’d stick to the reserach that is currently related to that and leave mental health, etc out of it.

– it appears the paper is repeated. ?

– on your predicted results, you may consider adding whatever type of statistics you would run, etc.
