Choose a psychological topic that interests you and use ProQuest PsycINFO to search for recent peer-reviewed journal articles on this topic.  The database can help you find a variety of resource material (e.g., books, dissertation abstracts, articles published in non-peer-reviewed journals, etc.), but you should limit your search to articles from peer-reviewed journals. Spend some time trying the different search and limit options within PsycINFO. Take notes as you search to keep track of your process and steps.

Select one article on your topic that is relevant to your interests and find that article  Once located, obtain a PDF of the full article.  You will need to provide a copy of it with your assignment.

Once you have selected and accessed your article, look at the reference list at the end of the article.  The reference list includes information about every source cited in an article.  This is often a useful strategy for finding addition references about your topic.  Use the PsychINFO database. Again, take notes on your process.  You do not need to turn in a copy of this second article, but you will need the reference information and information about where it can be found through the WSU library.

Write up a brief description (1 paragraph) of your search process for the first article, including identification and explanation of your initial psychological topic, the key terms you used in your search, how you limited the search, how many options you found, how limiting the search changed the number of options, etc., and how you selected the specific article.  You should also briefly describe the process you used to find one of the articles from the reference list of the first article. Be sure to include where to find a hard copy.

Read the journal article and briefly describe how this article contributes to your understanding of the topic you chose. Make sure to use your own words (DO NOT copy directly from the article). Properly cite the article using in-text citations in your write-up.

Finally, provide complete reference information for both articles, in proper APA editorial style.

You will select a job/career in which to conduct a job analysis.  This will require you to find a individual within the position and you would typically spend some time observing them perform the job.

Students will conduct a transferable skills analysis. O*NET Online and Job Accommodation Networks websites will also be critical to completion of the assignment.

O*NET ASSESSMENTS (Interest Profiler & Work Importance Profiler) The Occupational Information Network (O*NET) program  https://www.onetonline.org/ is the primary source of occupational information online provided by the US Department of Labor. O*NET includes a set of free selfdirected career exploration/assessment tools to help individuals consider and plan career options, preparation, and transitions more effectively. For this assignment you will take an online version of

the O*NET Interest Profiler and the O*NET Work Importance Profiler. The Interest and Work Importance Profilers are based mainly on theories discussed in this course and previous classes. These inventories will not be used in any way to determine the fit or appropriateness of your own career path, but rather to gain understanding about the use and understanding of career assessment tools and their connection to career development theory and how they are used to assist our consumers.

1. You will select a job/career in which to conduct a job analysis.  This will require you to find a individual within the position and you would typically spend some time observing them perform the job.   2. You will then meet with them and begin the analysis of the job.  Use the template to guide your interview provided on Blackboard. (provided by the University of Houston). 3. Once you have completed the job analysis with the individual and the job selected. You will looks up a disability of your choice.  Your point of reference will be: What if my interviewee in which I completed the job analysis has acquired the chosen disability?  How would this disability impact their ability to perform the current job?  What are the limitations, and the strengths that they currently possess?  Which of these skills, abilities, interests, and knowledge are transferable? 4. Utilize resources such as the ONET, & Dictionary of Occupational Titles https://occupationalinfo.org/  to develop a placement plan to transition this individual into a new career that you have determined as most appropriate once you have taken into account the acquired disability. Your Job Analysis Questionnaire will also inform the plan. 5. Including the Job Analysis Questionnaire the assignment will be between 8-10 pages.  You may utilize information from your Disorder Case Presentation

What type of rules would you have put in effect for someone like Lena (who is an adolescent and forced to attend)?  Would you expel Lena from the group for this behavior? Why or why not?

Instructions

Based  on your understanding of the ethical code of your profession, for this  task you will describe how you think the therapist in the following  situations should respond. Refer to the specific parts of the code to  support your thinking. Note any sections that may remain unclear or in  which personal judgment might play a role.

Scenario 1
You  are group leader of a men’s group. Tom, one of the participants in the  group, wants to help others get involved and invested in therapy. To  show them how effective therapy can be, he reveals that a few years ago  he had inappropriate sexual thoughts toward a minor. He never acted on  them, but they caused him great distress. After more than a year of  group therapy with other people who had similar issues he was able to  get rid of these obsessive thoughts.

After the session, Lee,  another member of the group, comes up to you for advice. Tom’s daughter  and Lee’s niece are in the same class at school. His niece has recently  been invited to a sleep over at Tom’s house. Now he wonders if he should  advise his brother against letting his daughter attend the sleepover.  He knows it is wrong to reveal anything that was discussed in the group  outside the session, but doesn’t feel comfortable having his niece at  Tom’s house in a sleepover situation. He asks for your advice.

  • What ethical principles are involved here?
  • Is it appropriate for you to discuss Tom outside of the therapy group?
  • How much of what takes place in the session can Lee share with his brother in this situation?
  • Does it make a difference that Tom says he never acted on his inappropriate thoughts?
  • How would you deal with this situation and observe ethical principles at the same time?

Scenario 2
Lena has been placed  in group therapy as part of a court order. She must attend the therapy  sessions or enter a detention facility. She shows little interest in the  session, and even less interest in sharing anything personal or doing  any work on herself. Another group member, Becca, comes into the group  one day, obviously distressed and distraught. She reveals that her  father beat her in an alcoholic outburst. She further adds that this is  not a rare occurrence for her. After the session, you find Lena taunting  Becca in the school yard, mocking her about her father in front of  other girls.

  • How would you, as group leader, react to this scenario?
  • What type of rules would you have put in effect for someone like Lena (who is an adolescent and forced to attend)?
  • Would you expel Lena from the group for this behavior? Why or why not?
  • What other steps might you take?
  • What are your ethical responsibilities toward Lena?
  • What are your ethical responsibilities toward Becca?

In a paper, address the questions in both of the scenarios listed above.

Support your analysis with at least three articles published in peer-reviewed journals in the past five years.

Length: 5-7 pages

Your  paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and  concepts and provide new thoughts and insights  relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.

Describe how assessment processes and assessment instruments can be used to identify potential leaders and their leadership development needs.

Case Study: Leadership Assessment at Robinson Insurance Agency

Todd Robinson, president of Robinson Insurance Agency, couldn’t be happier. The company that Todd’s father, Edger, started thirty years ago is prospering and poised for future growth. Over the past three years, Robinson Insurance has successfully purchased two regional insurance agencies whose owners were ready for retirement. The acquisitions went smoothly, and the firms merged under Todd’s capable leadership. The company now has 13 branch offices, in five different cities, in the greater Portland metropolitan area. The headquarters office—the site of the original Robinson Insurance Agency office—is located in the bustling downtown district in Portland, Oregon.

At 56 years old, Todd Robinson has earned a reputation for being a savvy businessman and a successful entrepreneur. He hopes to acquire at least one other small agency in the next year—a move that will expand the company by two additional branch offices in suburban Portland neighborhoods. However, managing the company is beginning to consume more and more of Todd’s time and energy—time he would like to spend with his family. Todd realizes that he needs to identify potential middle and senior management leaders within the company who can be trained to play a larger role in both day-to-day and strategic decisions.

Todd knows that selecting individuals to fill future leadership positions will be extremely critical to the long-term success of the company. He wants to ensure that the individuals who are identified for growth opportunities have the knowledge, skills and abilities to move into new middle and senior leadership positions as these positions are created. He also wants to ensure that the new leaders will possess and exemplify the “Client First” philosophy that characterizes the company. Frankly, he has concerns that some current managers—especially those from the agencies purchased by Robinson Insurance—may not fully share the company’s values and may only give “lip service” to the company’s customer-oriented values and practices. However, with 13 branch offices, Todd isn’t as familiar with each manger’s potential as he would like to be.

Thus, Todd has retained your services to help plan an assessment-based professional development program. The goal of the program is to identify people within the company who have the potential for greater levels of responsibility and authority, and then to invest in these individuals by providing training and other professional growth opportunities. Todd also wants help creating a succession plan to position the company for long-term success, even after he retires in five to eight years.

In a paper of at least 1750 – 2100 words (or 7-8 pages) in length (excluding title, abstract and reference pages), describe a comprehensive assessment plan for the company, including a sound defense of the feasibility of the plan, to meet the company’s leadership development objectives. In your paper, address the following:

  1. Discuss the key factors for identifying leadership potential.
  2. Identify an assessment-based approach for identifying potential among the managers at Robinson Insurance Agency. Describe how assessment processes and assessment instruments can be used to identify potential leaders and their leadership development needs.
  3. Include in your assessment approach at least three specific assessment instruments to evaluate leadership potential, justifying the use of each assessment instrument for its intended purpose.
  4. Identify the outcomes, data or information produced by each assessment you propose in your plan, and review the considerations for facilitating feedback from each type of assessment.
  5. Provide details of practical considerations of your plan, such as who will implement which parts of the assessment plan (an insider, an outsider, or a combination of both), what type of certification may be necessary to administer each assessment, and how the managers within Robinson Insurance will be consulted and involved in the assessment process.
  6. Identify the potential legal ramifications that may arise if Robinson Insurance Agency implements an assessment-based approach to identifying potential. Discuss ways of ensuring that the approach you recommend for the company is legal and justifiable.

You do NOT have to create a training and development plan for the identified future leaders; you only need to detail the assessment component of the plan and describe how the assessment information might be used to design the development activities.

In addition to your Scott and Reynolds (2010) textbook, the assigned articles for the course, and any Internet sources you reference to gather information about the assessments you have chosen, reference at least five additional scholarly sources (academic journal articles) to support your plan.
