Identify actions a counselor might take when confronted with clients they find difficult to treat due to differences in values/beliefs regarding one or more of the following issues: abortion, suicide, adultery, drug use, domestic violence, child abuse

Should a counselor remain value-objective about controversial issues presented by a client (such as abortion, suicide, adultery, drug use, domestic violence, child abuse, etc.)? Some counselors might argue that they should not express their values or criticize their clients for these behaviors, while others would say that expressing moral judgment is appropriate.

Consider the information above and Chapter 3 of the textbook. Write a 1,000-1,250-word paper addressing the following:

1. Analyze the ethical implications of a counselor expressing their values to a client.

2. Identify actions a counselor might take when confronted with clients they find difficult to treat due to differences in values/beliefs regarding one or more of the following issues: abortion, suicide, adultery, drug use, domestic violence, child abuse

3. Some of the legislation and government policies related to clinical mental health counseling

4. Identify factors that might lead a counselor to consider referring a client to another counselor.

5.  Describe steps a counselor should take if referral is not an option.

6. Be sure to use the ACA and NAADAC codes of ethics as guidelines when constructing your paper.

7. Include three additional scholarly resources in your paper in addition to the course textbook.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

**************Remember to keep this paper in 3rd person, (NO use of I, me, we, us, my opinion, this writer), rather use scholarly references related to various topics including value imposition, the pros and cons of self-disclosure, when it is appropriate to make a referral and citing relevant codes of ethics. PLEASE USE HEADINGS. There is a rubric embedded in the assignment section, so look at it while writing your paper. There is also a copy of an APA template (only a starting place) in the instructor add-ons. Resources–course material–add-ons–instructor add-ons.****

Design a quantitative research question related to this problem and a qualitative research question related to the same problem.

According to Creswell (2009), quantitative research is a “means for testing objective theories by examining the relationship among variables that can be measured and analyzed using statistical procedures.” Qualitative research, Creswell posits, is a “means for exploring and understanding the meaning individuals or groups ascribe to social or human problems.”

Consider the phenomenon of pain. Ethics committees and institutional review boards do not allow researchers to inflict equal doses of pain on subjects to examine their physiological response. In quantitative research, pain can be measured physiologically by blood pressure, changes in blood chemistry, muscle contractions, and pain scales (which are still subjective, but at least quantifiable). Researchers using a qualitative perspective may ask participants about their experience of being in physical pain, whether being in pain has changed them in any way, or what they have learned from experiencing physical pain.

For this Assignment, consider differences in how you might frame a research question in order to explore it using quantitative or qualitative research methods.

Submit a 2-page paper that highlights one of the research questions you shared in your Discussion post. Design a quantitative research question related to this problem and a qualitative research question related to the same problem. Please use the resources to support your answer.

2 Pages, APA format, Please cite any additional sources used!!!

Select the pillar of analysis on which you will focus. Identify the pillar of analysis in the worksheet. In the worksheet, write a paragraph explaining why you chose this pillar of analysis.

What does stress do to our health? The perception of stress, can influence the pathogenesis of disease by causing negative affective states. What are negative affective states?

I’m so stressed out!

· I have too much to do.

· I don’t know where to start, so I end up doing nothing.

· I wake up in the middle of the night.

· I can’t fall asleep.

· I’m tired all the time.

· I procrastinate.

· My stomach has butterflies in it all the time but they don’t feel very pretty.

· Is it normal to feel this way?

· I can’t stop thinking.

· I don’t want to eat.

· I only want to eat.

· I need to get rid of this!

Stress. Life events and demands that impose or exceed our adaptive capacity (Lazarus & Folkman, 1984). What? Things are happening in our lives that exceed our ability to deal with them. Did you know that stress is perceived? What you think is stressful is different than what I may think is stressful. Some life events such as unemployment (Frasquilho et al., 2016) or having a low income (Panjwani et al., 2016) are frequently found to be stressors across cultures, and more so than other variables. This isn’t really much of a surprise, is it? Other stressors may depend upon the individual, upbringing, personality, family support, gender, race, and a myriad of other factors.

What does stress do to our health? The perception of stress, can influence the pathogenesis of disease by causing negative affective states. What are negative affective states? Some of the symptoms are listed above and describe feelings of anxiety and depression. These symptoms then exert direct effects on our physiological processes that influence our risk for disease (Cohen, Janicki-Deverts, & Miller, 2007). Look at this quick video at WebMD that outlines that 5 ways stress can affect your body: https://www.webmd.com/balance/stress-management/video/stress-body (opens in a new window). This is a more detailed view on what is going on inside your body during times of increased stress: https://ed.ted.com/lessons/how-stress-affects-your-body-sharon-horesh-bergquist  (opens in a new window). Think stress is just something we should just all learn to live with as it is now? Hmmm… maybe not so much.

Sometimes, we can’t do much about our situation and it is an increasingly a part of our lives. We need to learn to protect ourselves from its long term effects and how to deal with it day to day. There are many ways to cope with stress. Each coping skill and the effectiveness of each technique depends on the type of stress, the individual, and the particular situation. Of course, when it comes to coping, not all techniques are good choices. Overeating, drugs, smoking, drinking too much etc.. would represent unhealthy ways to cope with stress.

For your discussion board assignment this week, take the Perceived Stress Scale found at this site: https://das.nh.gov/wellness/docs/percieved%20stress%20scale.pdf  (opens in new window). Read the directions carefully and score yourself.

In the discussion board area, share your score and:

If you fall in the high or moderate range – find a healthy coping mechanism to share with your classmates that you have not tried before that you are willing to try. You may not select one someone has already chosen (so yes, you have to read previous responses). Why do you think this would work for you?

If you fall in the low range – Share with your classmates why you think you are in this range? Is it genetic or learned behavior? Why? Do you have coping skills you can share with your classmates? Were you always this way?
