Identify an additional strategy you might use to apply your knowledge of the aging process to social work practice with older clients in general. Explain why you would use the strategy.

As individuals grow older, they experience biological changes, but how they experience these changes varies considerably. Senescence, or the process of aging, “affects different people, and various parts of the body, at different rates” (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2016, p. 658).

What factors affect the aging process? Why do some individuals appear to age faster than others? In this Discussion you address these questions and consider how, you, as a social worker, might apply your understanding of the aging process to your work with older clients.

To prepare for this Discussion, read “Working With the Aging: The Case of Francine” in Social Work Case Studies: Foundation Year.

Post a Discussion in which you:

  • Apply your understanding of the aging process to Francine’s case. How might Francine’s environment have influenced her aging process? How might you, as Francine’s social worker, apply your knowledge of the aging process to her case?
  • Identify an additional strategy you might use to apply your knowledge of the aging process to social work practice with older clients in general. Explain why you would use the strategy.

Provide a brief summary of      what you have learned about the individual reviewed in the case. Include information about the individual      in terms of demographics and general history, and the sources of that      information, and the reason that the individual was referred, and by whom.

Use this outline to structure your case assignments.

1. Case Summary

  • Provide a brief summary of      what you have learned about the individual reviewed in the case. Include information about the individual      in terms of demographics and general history, and the sources of that      information, and the reason that the individual was referred, and by whom.
  • Summarize any information      you may have about evaluations that have been conducted, including the      results.

2. Clinical Impression (Diagnosis)

Write the clinical impression in the DSM-5 format:

XXX.xx (Yyy.yy) Primary Diagnoses (list in order of salience).

(DSM-5 Code is first, as in XXX.xx, and ICD-10 codes next, in parentheses.)

OTHER FACTORS:

Use the V and Z codes, or simply appropriate descriptors to psychosocial and contextual factors of importance to the diagnostic case. These replace the DSM-IV-TR Axis IV & V used to address these concerns.

3. Recommendations

Explain any recommendations for interventions, treatment, and/or disposition.

4. Questions

Address the specific questions that were asked in the instructions for this assignment.

Here is a sample assignment question and an appropriate brief response:

Question: Describe what further information you would need to accurately diagnose this case.

Response: To diagnose this case accurately, I would also need to review any pertinent medical records. I would want to interview this client’s mother, with whom he lives, to corroborate the clinical interview data supplied by the client, and to learn more about his developmental history. I would also want to…

Describe and summarize client behavior within the group for the purpose of documenting the client’s progress and identifying needs/issues that may require modification of the treatment plan.

Details:

This assignment contains three parts, as identified and described below. Please complete each part with a combined essay of 950-1,700 words.

Part 1: Write a 300-700-word scenario that involves a client that you believe requires a risk assessment.

Part 2: Write a 150-250-word summary, discussing specific behaviors that lead you to create a risk assessment.

Part 3: Write a 500-750-word summary, discussing how you would assess the client. Include the following in your discussion:

  1. Questions you would ask to determine the client’s level of risk
  2. Protocol you would follow based on the client’s answers, including documentation
  3. Include at least three scholarly references in your paper.

Do the collateral sources have any psychological issues that might exacerbate the patient’s problems? Are there any police reports?

Gathering Collateral Information

Each assignment in this course will help you prepare your Final Paper. For all assignments, you will use the movie character or historical figure that you used in your Week Two assignment and selected in your Week One journal.

After gathering your patient’s history, it is considered good practice to contact people who interact with the patient on a regular basis and/or are related to the patient. These people often provide valuable insights into the patient’s behavior(s) and mindset. Typically, the gathered information provides a context for the patient’s environment.

For this assignment, you will write another section of your Final Paper.  View the complete instructions for the Final Paper in the link within Week Five of your online course or the “Components of Course Evaluation” section of this guide.   Your assignment this week must cover the following section of your psychological report and include the heading as listed:

  1. Collateral Within this section, you will interpret specific collateral information as it relates to your patient’s abnormal behavior and behavior patterns. You will also integrate information and knowledge regarding the patient’s culture in your evaluation of the maladaptive behavior as reported by the collateral sources.Typically, this section within a psychological report seeks to answer the following questions (further elaboration within this section is encouraged where possible):
    • What do other people have to say about the patient’s behavior?
    • Are there any commonalities between the collateral sources’ reports?
    • Do the collateral sources have any psychological issues that might exacerbate the patient’s problems?
    • Are there any police reports?
    • Are there any personality testing or intelligence testing reports available?

Your assignment should be a minimum of one page and include sufficient depth and detail to support and inform your diagnostic impression. A title page is not necessary; however, a reference page must be included. A cursory or surface level investigation of the patient’s interpersonal relationships will not provide enough information for your diagnostic impression. If no collateral information is available, create collateral information on your own to inform your diagnostic impression.

Any sources used in the paper must be cited and referenced in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
