Treatment Overview

 

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read the required chapters from the text and review the required articles for this week. Over the course of the past weeks, we have considered the use of medications in the treatment of various psychological disorders. This discussion will provide you with an opportunity to give an informed appraisal on the use of drugs to treat disorders and defend your stance based on your judgment of the literature. In your initial post, describe what you believe are the greatest strengths and weaknesses of using the medications to treat psychological disorders.  Evaluate the employment of psychoactive drugs in the treatment of disorders over the lifespan from both an ethical and risk-benefits perspective. Summarize the theories of psychiatric disease and the scientific rationale behind its treatment through the employment of drug therapies. Explain what you believe to be the greatest challenges in the use of psychoactive medications over the next several years. Support your statements with references and logical arguments.

7. We tend to measure memory by  recognition, recall and relearning.  Please tell me what these are and give an example of each.

8.  What is a flashbulb memory?  How accurate is it?  Please give me an example.

Sue is studying for her test in the same room that she is going to take it.  She thinks this will give her a better chance of remembering what she learned.  Similarly, she makes sure she is drinking coffee during the test as she was drinking coffee when she studied.  What behavior is she exhibiting?  Can memory be context and state dependent?

  • Review Chapter 9 in your course text, Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences. Pay attention to the descriptions and examples of linear and nonlinear relationships, positive and negative linear relationships, and curvilinear relationships.
  • Consider how these relationships are determined and what impact each type of relationship may have on a researcher’s ability to make predictions.
  • Using the Walden Library, select and review two or three articles on criminal recidivism, violent crime, or domestic violence in which the variables have positive and negative linear relationships.
  • Consider the implications if the variables had a curvilinear relationship instead.
