Prior to beginning your work on this assignment, please read the assigned text chapters for Week One.  In addition, read pages 17-18 from the article, Theory at a Glance: A guide for Health Promotion Practice  (Links to an external site.)(National Cancer Institute, 2005).  This article includes information about the Transtheoretical model (TTM) describing stages of change across a timespan, and the Health Belief Model (HBM) describing perceptions determining an individual’s behavior change relating to health and disease.

An additional resource includes the University of Rhode Island Cancer Prevention Research Center’s  Transtheoretical Model: Detailed Overview  (Links to an external site.).

Different biopsychosocial theoretical models have been developed to assess individual perspectives on health promotion as well as to develop effective interventions to support health promotion.   This assignment focuses on shared decision making (SDM) and the use of decision aids (DA) in health promotion as well as the analysis of a specific health promotion practice using two theoretical biopsychosocial models.  Utilization of healthcare services in the form of immunizations will be evaluated using the Healthcare Belief Model (HBM) and the Transtheoretical Model (TTM) of Behavioral Change.

How does the consumer perceive and act upon vaccination (immunization) recommendations as a health promotion activity?

For this assignment you must:

Create your paper by evaluating vaccines as health promotion practices.

Describe Erikson’s stage of generativity versus stagnation, noting major personality changes of middle adulthood and related research findings.

Generativity represents a major unifying theme in middle-aged adults’ life stories. Generative adults develop a way of thinking about the self that fosters a caring, compassionate approach to others.  In this discussion we will discuss the concepts of generativity further.

As you create your discussion post, consider the following:

  • What stereotypes are associated with middle age? Have you ever heard about or seen someone in a ‘mid-life crisis’? If you are not at this stage, where do you see yourself during mid-life?

By the end of this discussion, you will be able to:

  • Describe Erikson’s stage of generativity versus stagnation, noting major personality changes of middle adulthood and related research findings.

Complete the following:

Describe Erik Erikson’s Generativity versus Stagnation stage. According to Erikson, how does personality change in middle age? What personal and cultural forces motivate generativity? Why does it increase and contribute vitally to favorable adjustment in midlife? Be sure to include in your response information from the textbook or other psychology-specific sources.

3. Persons choose the situation.

5. Persons change the situation.

6. Situations change the person.

  • Assume that you are an industrial/organizational consultant brought into the same office as asked to study these person-situation interactions in order to advise management how to best put them to use to increase employee motivation which research design would you use? Social problem (Socw 6351)

Social Security

Public assistance and social insurance programs provide assistance to individuals and families with financial needs. Yet, as you begin to examine these programs more closely, you will discover that the policies often have service gaps or disparities.

Sometimes, these disparities are unintentional. Other times, they may be designed to exclude various sub-groups and populations. It is always important that you are aware of these disparities in order to provide accurate referral information to clients. This knowledge will also make you an educated and effective advocate for changes.

This week, you compare differences between Social Security and public assistance programs and how these programs influence social perceptions and potentially create disparities. You also identify causes of social problems and examine the theoretical explanations and approaches that are involved.

Assignment: Social Problem Research

Responding to the social problems that affect the populations you serve as a social worker is only one aspect of the professional responsibility you must undertake. The ability to be proactive by identifying disparities and gaps in policies is just as important. However, in order to be an effective advocate and to fully participate in the policy process, it is important that you be able to connect theory and research to policy-making decisions. Having the knowledge and skills to implement new policies and policy alternatives without creating new disparities is a skill all social workers need to possess.

For this Assignment, consider what you have learned about the possible causes of the social problem you selected.

By Day 7

Assignment (2–4 pages, APA format): Your paper should include:

  • A description of the known explanations or causes of the issue you selected in your Social Issues paper in Week 3
  • A description of the theoretical explanations and approaches scholars and policy analysts used to discuss this issue
  • A description of the policies that have resulted from these discussions and an explanation of whether they are effective at resolving the issue

Support your Assignment with specific references to the resources. Be sure to provide full APA citations for your references.
