    1.    Summarize your research in state/federal requirements for certification/licensure for your field. Create a timeline that you can follow to meet these requirements.

    2.    Why is it important to attend trainings in topics such as HIPAA, confidentiality, cultural diversity, universal health procedures, and counseling theories?

    Student 1’s post (Tiffany) :

I have been pursuing my Bachelor in Psychology with Emphasis in ABA. I am gng to become a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA). In order to complete this goal, I have to have a bachelors in psychology with coursework accoriding to a certain task list. I also have to have 1000 hours of supervised field work. I started accruing these hours at the beginning of my first ABA course. Once this is completed, I then have to sit for board certification exams. In addition to this, it is important to remember that in order to maintain a credential, you must receive continued education credits at a rate of 3-Year Cycle: 24 CEUs every 3 years (3 CEUs in ethics and professional behavior) or 2-Year Cycle: 20 CEUs every 2 years (4 CEUs in ethics for all certificants; 3 CEUs in supervision for supervisors).

I should be able to have my experience done and be able to sit for my boards the summer of 2017.

It is important to take training in HIPAA, confidentiality, cultural diversity, universal health procedures and counseling theories because we will work with a diverse population and being able to handle their cases with privacy and understanding is an important part of what we as professionals will do. We have to be sure that we understand their culture and are sensitive to their needs while keeping personal matters private.

    Student 2’s post (Veronica) :

My current field of study at Kaplan University is Psychology with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis.  The focal area I would like to get into under this emphasis is Community Psychology. Residing in the city of Brooklyn, New York there are certain state requirements that need to be met in order for me to do so.

The state of New York requires that a prospected Behavior Analyst meet the requirements established by section 8804 of New York’s Education Law and Subpart 79-17 of the Commissioner’s Regulations (Applied Behavior Analysis, 2014).  In order for you to begin the process you must first submit an application for licensure/certification to the New York State Education Department: Office of Professions in order to use the title “licensed behavior analyst” or “certified behavior analyst” (Applied Behavior Analysis, 2014). The required fee to obtain licensure and first registration as a licensed behavior analyst is $300 (Applied Behavior Analysis, 2014). The required fee to obtain licensure for certification and first registration as a certified behavior analyst assistant is $225 (Applied Behavior Analysis, 2014). Certification of Professional Education of either a bachelor’s or higher for certificate or master’s or higher for licensure is required (Applied Behavior Analysis, 2014). A Professional Experience Report is required to show you have in some form practice in the field (Applied Behavior Analysis, 2014). The passing of an examination is another requirement (Applied Behavior Analysis, 2014).  Completion of the required training on the Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment is mandated (Applied Behavior Analysis, 2014). You must also be 21 years of age (Applied Behavior Analysis, 2014). Lastly the state requires you be of good moral standard (Applied Behavior Analysis, 2014).

The Behavior Analyst Certification Board requires that you meet the following: Applied Behavior Analysis Bachelors; BCaBA certification, coursework – 180 hours, experience – supervised independent fieldwork – 1000 hours, practicum – 670 hours, intensive practicum – 500 hours, no more than 50% of experience hours can come from direct implementation, you have to have experience within 5 years of starting coursework (starting 1/1/15), and an exam (BCBA, 1998, 2016). Applied Behavior Analysis Masters; BCAB certification, coursework – 270 classroom hours of graduate level instruction, experience, supervised independent fieldwork – 1500 hours, practicum – 1000 hours, intensive practicum – 750 hours, no more than 50% of experience hours can come from direct implementation, have to have experience within 5 years of starting coursework (starting 1/1/15), and pass a competency exam (BCBA, 1998, 2016).

My timeline began 11/14/2015 enrollment at Kaplan University. 11/14/2015 – 01/24/2017 obtaining the 180 hours of required bachelor’s certification. 1/24/2017 – future fieldwork and practicum. 2017 – 2018 beginning career in Community Psychology.

When working in the field of ABA it is very important to attend trainings in topics such as HIPAA, confidentiality, cultural diversity, universal health procedures, and counseling theories. These trainings play an important role because they help you stay within the ethical guidelines of psychology, improve your behavior analytic practices, develop programs that are culturally sensitive, keep you abreast on methods that are no longer utilized, and keep you updated on new successful research findings that can be utilized in practice.

Provide a chronological history of the individual’s major life experiences. Identify specific biological, psychological and sociological influences that shaped the individual’s experience.

Week 6 Discussion

No unread replies.No replies.

This chapter discussed multiple types of intelligence and intelligence tests. Gardner identified 9 different types of intelligences. Choose ONE type of intelligence and describe how you would test it.  For example, if I were to test movement intelligence I may show a group of dancers a dance routine and score them according to how well they performed.

When replying to your peers provide suggestions that you think would improve the test or other methods to test the same form of intelligence that he/she chose.

You are required to make at least two comments on the responses posted by you classmates with a minimum of 50 words. Make sure you design your response with your own words. Your responses to your classmates must be of substance; not just “I agree” or “Good Post.” The purpose of the responses is to convert the discussion forum into a quality academic environment through which you improve your knowledge and understanding. Read and review all assigned course materials and chapters before you start working on your assignments.

Gathering facts about a client’s life span through the interview process is an important social work skill. This week, you practice this skill by interviewing an older adult using the questions in the Life Span Interview document available in this week’s resources. For this week’s Assignment you transform your interview notes into a narrative—that is, a life story—of the older adult you interviewed. You interweave within this narrative an analysis of the life story by applying person and the environment concepts to your understanding and interpretation of that story.

By Day 7

Submit a 3- to 5-page paper in which you provide a narrative analysis of the Life Span Interview you completed. The paper should:

  • Provide a chronological history of the individual’s major life experiences.
    • Identify specific biological, psychological and sociological influences that shaped the individual’s experience.
  • Analyze the individual’s experiences by applying theory and concepts learned throughout both HBSE courses.
  • Provide your reflection of the experience, both in interviewing the individual and analyzing their narrative.
  • Explain what you learned and how you will apply this to future social work practice.

Support your Assignment with specific references to the resources. Be sure to provide full APA citations for your references.

Describe how you could use Google’s approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to both attract new talent and retain existing talent.

For the second part of this discussion, please review the Ch 1 opening case that examines Google’s tremendous success as well as the challenges that the global organization faces in recruiting and retaining talented, in-demand employees. In addition to maintaining a skilled and committed workforce, Google also strives to recruit and retain individuals who will be a good fit with the organization in terms of vision, work style, and professional ethics.

To gain further insight and knowledge about Google, visit its website: www.google.com (Links to an external site.) and explore the content under “Company” in the “About Google” section.

Let’s discuss three different hypothetical scenarios with regard to this case. Select one or more and share your perspective.
1. Assume you are a Google employee. Describe what you would do to develop your internal social capital and your external social capital.
2. Assume you will graduate from business school later this year and were fortunate enough to get a job interview with Google. Explain, in terms of human and social capital, how you would promote or sell yourself in that interview.
3. Assume you are a manager responsible for hiring at Google. Describe how you could use Google’s approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to both attract new talent and retain existing talent.

Participation credit in the weekly discussions will be based on the following structure:

Quantity:

Each student must make a minimum of three posts for each discussion – one main post that answers the question(s) presented by the professor, and two replies to posts made by your peers.  The main post must be a minimum of 300 words in length and made by Friday evening at 11:59pm ET.  The reply posts must be approximately 75-100 words in length and may be made any time before Sunday evening when the week closes at 11:59pm ET.

Quality:

All posts must be substantive, relevant, and respectful, and contribute value to the discussion.  “I agree” types of posts are fine to make, but they do not count towards the minimum posting requirement.

How did the researchers interpret the results? What were the limitations of the study and suggestions for future research?

Prior writing any summary and critique of research article, consider the following:

It is a requirement to write concise summary of research article with attribution (giving credit to authors where the credit is due, in other words, writing with attribution means to clearly state whose research you summarizing and what is the year of publication, e.g., Smith (2017) claimed that ….. (p. 37).

(See also Appendix A in Cozby & Bates [2017]).

In your paper, you are concisely describing researchers’ work in a form of a summary and then you are adding a constructive critique of the work. For elements of critique, see Paul and Elder’s (2009, p. 18) or Paul and Elder’s (2019, pp. 32-33) sections about how to analyze research article or essay. Anytime you paraphrase or use direct quotations (“…..”), you will need to use page number (p. xy).

For the purposes of today write-up, read the selected article, and then in concise way, in your first paragraph, explain what you plan to do in the rest of the paper. Then summarize the following:

From Introduction, select:

What was the goal (aim, purpose) of the researcher’s or researchers’ work? (Remember, the article has authors who have names and the work was published in a specific year—be precise in this attribution.) What were the research question and/or hypothesis?

From Method, select:

How did the researchers go about accomplishing the research: Who were the participants (males/females, age range, any other demographical and socio-economic information)?

What kind of questionnaires, measures, scales, and/or inventories (include titles, names of authors and year of publication) did researchers use? (Attribute all pertinent information in text and in the list of References.) Is there any other technique researchers used in method section?

From Results, select:

What were the results of the study?

From Discussion, select:

How did the researchers interpret the results? What were the limitations of the study and suggestions for future research?

Critique

For the purposes of this paper (and for other papers for Psych 201, 234, 338, and 436), constructively critique which part(s) of research article could be improved and how. Do not select more than two areas for improvement. If in doubt, look over Paul and Elder (2009, p. 18) or Paul and Elder (2019, pp. 32-33) about areas of research article that could be constructively critiqued. It would be sufficient to critique constructively one or two areas in a selected article.
