Please no plagiarism and make sure you are able to access all resources on your own before you bid. Main references come from Neukrug, E. S., & Fawcett, R. C. (2015) and/or Encyclopedia of Counseling (2017). You need to have scholarly support for any claim of fact or recommendation regarding treatment. APA format also requires headings. Use the prompt each week to guide your heading titles and organize the content of your initial post under the appropriate headings. Remember to use scholarly research from peer-reviewed articles that are current. Please follow the instructions to get full credit for the discussion. I need this completed by 01/22/20 at 6pm.

DISCUSSION POSTS— For your Main discussion posts, I require that all posts be a MINIMUM of 250 words. The main post must contain a minimum of two (2) different references from a peer-reviewed journal or scholarly book or scholarly website. It is a good idea to use your Learning Resources each week. Wikipedia does not count as a scholarly website since the information is not validated.

Discussion – Week 9

Selecting Assessments

The Alexander Street Videos include many selections that cover specific issues, diagnoses, and treatments. Consider the population that you hope to work with as a counselor, such as at-risk youth, or people with anxiety. Use the Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) and the Alexander Street Videos (AVON in the Walden Library) to find out more about these topics and appropriate assessments.

To Prepare:

  • The Walden Library has licensed a collection of videos from publisher Alexander Street, which includes many relevant to counseling and therapy. To access these videos:
    • Access the Walden Library and select Databases A-Z on the home page.
    • Then select Academic Video Online (AVON)
    • The next screen is the home  page for Alexander Street Videos
  • Search for assessments on topics such as depression, suicide risk, and other topics. Find videos of assessments that correspond to these topics of interest. I chose depression in teens
  • As you review these videos, and through your search of the MMY, think about the population that you hope to work with as a counselor. Consider which assessments would be appropriate to use with this population.

By Day 3 of Week 9

Post your reflection. Also, describe:

  • The population you hope to work with as a future counselor (At-risk youth)
  • Three assessments that you think you will use the most with your population
  • Explain why you would use these assessments

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources. Identify current relevant literature to support your work.

Select one of the following scenarios:

  • A psychologist is seeing a client in therapy. The client tells him she can no longer pay for sessions. He has been struggling to deal with the paperwork imposed by managed care and billing. He suggests that the client can work for him 2 days per week instead of paying for sessions.
  • You are a professor at a local college. One of the students in your class is clearly distraught. You notice this and mention that you hope everything is okay. The student tells you that his wife recently left him and he is having difficulty coping with the situation. You talk to him for a few minutes, then leave for your office. At the next class, the student tells you how much he appreciated your concern. He states that he understands that you are a psychologist and asks for your card. The next day, he calls your office for an appointment to see you.
  • A client you are seeing has a house on the island of St. Thomas in the Caribbean. One day, during a particularly difficult session, the client suggests that you might enjoy a trip to St. Thomas and a stay at his villa on the ocean. You tell him that you do not have any time for a trip but thank him for his offer. The next week, the client states that he will not take “No” for an answer and tells you that on your next vacation, you must let him know so he can make certain that the villa is available.
  • A close friend of yours is having difficulty with her teenage daughter. She knows you are a psychologist who specializes in adolescents. She asks if you would be willing to see her daughter for a few sessions to straighten her out. *****THIS IS THE SCENARIO SELECTED****

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

Provide the names of the two Walden Sports employees you selected and explain how they differ in their commitment to the organization.

Commitment is an attitude that correlates strongly with job satisfaction. In addition, commitment, like satisfaction, relates to turnover and other employee outcomes. Because there are patterns of commitment, organizations can use these data to take steps to increase employee commitment, thereby increasing positive employee behaviors and decreasing negative employee behaviors.

In this Discussion, you will analyze the level of employee commitment at Walden Sports using the Meyer-Allen three-component measure (affective, normative, and continuance) and analyze the consequences that can occur.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • View the video: “Organizational Commitment” (transcript is attached). Select two Walden Sports employees and consider how they differ in their commitment to the organization. Then consider positive and negative consequences of each employee’s organizational commitment.
  • Read the article “Job Satisfaction, Organizational Commitment and Job Involvement: The Mediating Role of Job Involvement.” Think about the antecedents and consequences of commitment, both positive and negative.
  • Read the article “The Mediating Role of Job Involvement Between Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment in a Small and Medium Sized Business Enterprise.” Reflect on the mediators and predictors of commitment.
  • Read the article “Affective Commitment as a Core Essence of Organizational Commitment.” Consider how affective commitment, or the emotional attachment to the organization, can influence commitment to an organization.
  • Read the article “Organizational Citizenship Behavior: Recent Trends and Developments.” Consider some of the positive and negative consequences of commitment and some of the conditions that mediate them.

By Day 3

Post a response to the following:

Provide the names of the two Walden Sports employees you selected and explain how they differ in their commitment to the organization. In your analysis, explain how they differ or are similar on all three components of organizational commitment: affective, normative, and continuance or in other words, affection for the job, fear of loss and sense of obligation to stay. Finally, explain one potential positive consequence and one potential negative consequence of each employee’s organizational commitment.

Describe the cultural event in which you participated.   Explain how this experience influenced your perceptions of diversity and difference.

By Day 7

Submit, a 7-10 minute recorded PowerPoint presentation and transcript of presentation. In the PPT presentation, address the following prompts:

  • Describe the cultural event in which you participated.
  • Explain how this experience influenced your perceptions of diversity and difference.
  • Analyze at least 3 key concepts from this course in relation to this experience.
  • Define what it means to you to engage with diversity and difference in practice.
  • Describe two challenges associated with discussing and reflecting on diversity related content.
  • Describe one strategy to address these challenges.
  • Identify one positive emotion and one negative emotion that surfaced during the past 10 weeks of the course.
  • Describe one strategy to address the negative emotion in order to continue developing cultural awareness.
  • Explain specific steps that you will take to advance human rights and social, economic, and environmental justice based on what you have learned in this course.

It is highly recommended that you write a script before recording your presentation. A good guide for translating the length of your written script into presentation time is about 135 words per minute. This rate may differ based on your speaking style and other variables, so consider it a general guideline.

To ensure accessibility of your presentation, you must submit a Transcript and/or use the Closed Captioning available in Kaltura Media. (If you select to use closed captioning, you must edit the closed captioning to confirm it was captioned correctly).
