Case Study (4)

HANSON’S CASE ANALYSIS FRAMEWORK

In order to prepare for their futures, teachers who have the goal of becoming educational administrators will benefit from analyzing cases that represent different types of problems occurring in the school. The problems addressed in each of the cases is intended to stimulate discussion, encourage problem solving and to promote interest in research needed to advance an understanding of the content and problems introduced.

The following steps are to be utilized in analyzing the cases assigned in this course:

1.     1. Summarize the case.

2.    2.  Identify the problem in a SINGLE SENTENCE.

3.    3.  Select specific information from the case and categorize it according to people, place or program.

4.     4. Review and prioritize the information.

5.     5. Refer to the data in each category to solve the problem identified in the case and respond to the case study questions

Each case offers a different background with a unique problem to solve. Depending on the specifics of the case it is possible that the most significant data are either concentrated in one of the three categories (people, place, and program) or contained in a combination of two or more categories.

  • Your responses to your classmates must be substantive. Share ideas, explore differences, and think critically about your classmates’ posts. Bring in information from your textbook, classroom resources or other credible sources that you find to contribute to the discussion. You are invited to share relevant audio, video, or images in your responses. You must cite and reference any sources you use, even in your responses to your classmates.

PEER RESPONSE:

This week we were asked to locate a non-scholarly source, apply the CRAPP test, and discuss the validity of the source. The source I found is Top Outsourcing Advantages, as shared on the website The Balance Small Business. The author of this article is James Bucki, and it was published in 2020.

The C in CRAPP Test stands for currency. Currency is looking at the publication to determine how current the information is; you would also want to look at any provided revision dates. The article I chose was published in February 2020, meeting the currency test for my research question, how outsourcing supports HR staffing objectives. My selected article also hosts several working hyperlinks within the text supporting the validity of currency as it reinforces that the information is regularly reviewed.

The R in CRAPP Test stands for Relevant as in how relevant is the information to the research question. The article Top Outsourcing Advantages is an appropriate source for my research question and does provide me with answers as to how outsourcing supports HR objectives. The article shares the following benefits of outsourcing staff: lowering cost, flexible staffing options, opportunities to develop permanent staff, and promoting growth.

The first A in the CRAAP test stands for Authority. Authority is referring to the author and the author’s credibility. James Bucki, the author of my selected article, is a director of computing technology at Genesee Community College and is a consultant. He has published 47 articles for the website The Balance Small Business. I am confident that James Bucki is a creditable source and that the information he shares in his work is reliable.

The second A in the CRAAP test stands for Accuracy. The source that I chose has multiple references used throughout the article. These references include information from the U.S. Small Business Administration and Carnegie Mellon University Language Technologies Institute. The excellent use of grammar and formatting supports the accuracy of the article. I am comfortable that my source meets the requirements for information accuracy.

Lastly, the P in the CRAAP test stands for Purpose or the reason the article was written. The piece Top Outsourcing Advantages is meant to inform the reader of the benefits of outsourcing. The purpose of my research question is to review how outsourcing staffing support HR objectives and this article can support that question.

I have learned a lot about using the CRAPP test and how to utilize it for my academic and professional research. I will call out that learning how to look at the article’s author to determine authority has been my biggest eye-opener. Previously, I would not question who prepared the information, but I learned that a creditable source must come from a creditable author. I am excited to use the CRAPP test method as I continue my academic journey.
