Essay 3 – Addiction in Adolescence

Explain in detail (using course readings/presentations from this module/week) the relationship between abuse and addiction in adolescence. How does abuse or addiction affect the developing brain of an adolescent? How does a healthy spiritual development affect the likelihood of use/abuse/addiction in the adolescent years? Discuss local news coverage of alcohol or drug-related stories to adolescent use in your area. Give details on the prevalence of addiction based on your readings and the news stories. Are differing viewpoints considered, analyzed, and treated?

For each essay, ensure that the conclusion contains a good summary of the issues treated and offer suggestions for further study.

identify a potential ethical issue in quantitative research and explain how it might influence design decisions. Finally, explain what it means for a research topic to be amenable to scientific study using a quantitative approach.

Researchers consider validity and reliability with each new study they design. This is because validity and reliability are not fixed but rather reflect a particular study’s unique variables, research design, instruments, and participants.

In the context of research design, two types of validity, which speak to the quality of different features of the research process, are considered: internal validity and external validity. Assuming that the findings of a research study are internally valid—i.e., the researcher has used controls to determine that the outcome is indeed due to manipulation of the independent variable or the treatment—external validity refers to the extent to which the findings can be generalized from the sample to the population or to other settings and groups. Reliability refers to the replicability of the findings.

For this Discussion, you will consider threats to internal and external validity in quantitative research and the strategies used to mitigate these threats. You will also consider the ethical implications of designing quantitative research.

Post an explanation of a threat to internal validity and a threat to external validity in quantitative research. Next, explain a strategy to mitigate each of these threats. Then, identify a potential ethical issue in quantitative research and explain how it might influence design decisions. Finally, explain what it means for a research topic to be amenable to scientific study using a quantitative approach.

Be sure to support your Main Issue Post and Response Post with reference to the week’s Learning Resources and other scholarly evidence in APA Style.

Compare the two movies or books to explain which one does a better job at presenting the material from a scientifically accurate point of view.

The movies I choose: the Godfather and Forrest Gump

  2. Summarize the movies very briefly (no more than about 4 sentences each).
  3. Compare the content and ideas in the movies to the content and ideas as psychologists have learned and presented.
  4. Compare the two movies or books to explain which one does a better job at presenting the material from a scientifically accurate point of view.

3 pages long summary and analysis comparing the movies and each other.

APA style.

My own complete summary for the two movies.

The Godfather

The godfather gave me a complete outlook on life. The first is to complete self-worth, the second is to have power to take care of family members, and the third is to help kind-hearted people and help the ethnic group to speak. As the age of a person grows, the identity and status of the person will also change with the need, and the responsibility will become larger and larger. This process is also a process of psychological breakthrough to complete self-realization.

Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump’s life is full of optimism and a healthy outlook on life. Everything Gump experienced was so natural, because he dared to accept his defect and knew how to deal with it. When people think that Gump’s running is for some social or political purpose, he tells people “I’m just like running”, so Gump doesn’t care about other people’s views, but tries to achieve what he wants to do.

Reflect on your results and explore ways that you might develop an enhanced emotional IQ.

You recently were asked to attend a meeting to discuss the hiring process in your workplace. The Human Resources Director attended and made the following statement: “ We obviously want intelligent people, but we also want them to have emotional intelligence”.

What did the HR director mean by that? To learn more about emotional intelligence, explore the sites listed below. Please take one of the Emotional Intelligence (EI) tests. Reflect on your results and explore ways that you might develop an enhanced emotional IQ.

The following sites have informal self – administered surveys that introduce the concept of EI in an interesting and personal way. There are also links at these sites to follow-up on emotional quotient (EQ) assessment and enhancement approaches.
