Sonia came to the 2-3 room in your child care setting. She just turned 2. She did not speak any words and only babbled. Sonia was very active. She ran from one center to the next, many times disrupting the other children’s play by taking the toys away or knocking them on the floor. She came from a different center, but had only been there 2 months. Mom told your associate that Sonia had just started to babble about 1 month ago. The teacher reported that mom was hard to understand because she had an accent. The associate did not know what kind of accent it was. The office was still processing the paper work so you are unable to look at it currently.
In a 3-5 page paper discuss the following:
· Where is the child currently in her language development? Defend your reasoning with research.
· What would you do to help this child develop her language skills?
· Discuss how culture may be affecting the child’s language development.
· Discuss how you would support Sonia’s cognitive development in your classroom.
