Re:Unit2 – Discussion Board

I use word not on an everyday basis but I do you it quite a bit.  There are things that I know I never knew about till I started school.  References, I have never used that I normally if I needed a table of contents I would just guess and type it on where I thought it would be.  Clicking the options at the top make it a whole lot easier and makes it in line and perfect.  Endnotes never used them that I can remember, but I’m sure I will possible try it in my next paper if I am allowed to.  You know my friend had proof read one of my papers and I believe she used that mark entry.  Learn something new every day.  I guess I never really paid attention to the things that were under the tabs, I didn’t know that you could type something and click on the translate option and it would put it in whatever language that you needed it to be.  I was going the long way for that.  I would find a translation web site and type it from there.  I guess I have to really go through each tab and discover what all of it does.  Track changes and Balloons, wow never heard of this

Word templates can be used for different things.  Not only are there ones that are in the system, but you can create your own.  There are creative templates like certificates, coupons, and business cards.  This helps you save on money instead of going to get them done and paying someone.  You would only have to buy the paper.  Also in the section they have documents, which range from a fax cover sheet to a resignation letter.  When I don’t feel like being creative on flyers or things for the job, I will go to the template and search to see if what I’m looking for is in there.  I didn’t create my own template for the APA format, but now that I know that I can use the references feature to insert things I use will update my template.

CIS

Assignment 5 : The Service-Oriented Architecture

The Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) strategy allows businesses and organizations to offer their products and services to customers and trading partners using a standards-based integration protocol. Web Services depends on SOA for delivery. SOA uses Extensible Markup Language (XML) to exchange data and information to its products and services consumers. One of the SOA characteristics is that the integration is loosely coupled, thus simplifying integration.

Write an eight to ten (8-10) page paper in which you:

  1. Analyze five (5) ways in which SOA reduces the total cost of ownership (TCO).
  2. Examine five (5) ways in which using XML enables data and information exchange between clients and servers using Web Services in an SOA environment.
  3. Compare and contrast the loosely coupled architecture to a tightly coupled architecture in terms of TCO, maintenance, and implementation issues.
  4. Analyze three (3) advantages and three (3) disadvantages of using a standards-based integration strategy.
  5. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

Benefit of Capitalism over Socialism

**This is the final, but below is what was asked for in the first draft. I didn’t do it.

Here are the questions that you can use to get going on your first draft:

1. What is your topic and why does it matter?

2. Do you have a preliminary argument or thesis about it? ( you can answer this after you have responded to the other questions)

3. Does your topic have a history or back-story or terms you need to clarify before you can proceed with your topic?

4. What are the arguments you have in support of your topic and what evidence do you have to support each of these arguments? Write each of your arguments as.a series of paragraphs with clearly cited evidence. Be sure to have at least 4 good supporting arguments.

5. Are there any counter-arguments to your position?

5. How would you rebut these counter-arguments? Or, if you cannot entirely rebut these counter-arguments, can you explain why your position on the topic is still valid?

6. Now that you have gone through all your arguments, how would you best phrase your thesis so that it accounts for both what your position is and why you hold it?

You can write this preliminary first draft as a series of answers to these questions and worry about putting it together into a draft for when you meet me with your first draft next week. Remember though, these answers need to be in full paragraphs and not in bullet points.

How long does this draft need to be?

Just be sure that you have answered all the questions and that you are certain that you have enough evidence to make for a convincing paper. You should be at about 6-7 pages. If you are at much below that, you probably do not have enough material to go on. Remember, your final paper needs to be at least 8 pages at a minimum, but you don’t have to be there just yet.

Citations:

Make sure also that you have clearly cited your evidence parenthetically with author and page number. Ex: if you have quoted or paraphrased something from an article by Simon Marks on page 19, your parenthetical citation should read  (Marks 19). If your articles does not have an author, use the title instead.

Works Cited page

Be sure to include a Works Cited page at the end of the draft. The in-text citations will be meaningless without it. Use the MILA style, no matter what kind of paper you are writing. You can, for now, use a citation generator like EasyBib Here is a link to the OWL Purdue site to help you with it.

However, I do not want to you get too caught up in the nitty-gritty of citation style just yet. Just make sure that you have all the relavant details (auhtors, titles, journals, year of publication, dates, etc.) We will be spending a week in April going over the details of citation style and you can use that time to get the details cleaned up.
