Week 2 assignment 1 | Government homework help

Rationale for Agency Selected

Assignment Overview

For this and the following assignments, which will become a major part of your portfolio, you will take on the role of a consultant for a government agency. The first role of the consultant is to familiarize yourself with the agency, its departments, and key actors. Select a local, county, state, or federal agency and a department within the agency. Usually, you can find contact information on their websites.

After selecting an agency and department, you are expected to:

  • Provide a rationale for your selection, and research the agency and department.
  • Interview at least two representatives of the agency’s department for the different sections of the paper.
    • If you can obtain more than two different interviews, do so. The more perspectives, the better.
    • Interviews can be conducted in person, by phone, or by an electronic method such as email.
    • Use the PAD599 Interview Template [DOCX] to prepare for your interviews, and to document your questions and your interviewees’ responses for use in your assignments throughout the course.
    • Note: Follow the Guidelines for Interview Assignments at Strayer University provided in the Assignment Preparation in Week 1.
  • Research the literature regarding issues that involve the selected agency and public administration in general. The following websites can be useful for finding news and current events about your selected agency:
    • Governing. Select one of the articles under Latest Headlines to get started.
    • Government Agencies and Elected Officials at USA.gov. Click A–Z Index of U.S. Government Agencies, click an agency, then click the agency’s website to find articles, news, and other publications.

Assume the role of a consultant who works for a consulting firm that has asked you to research this agency and file a report with the vice president (VP) of accounts and client support.

Sociology matters | Operations Management homework help

The purpose of this assignment is for you to apply what you learned through the activities and chapter readings. You can reflect on the results from the reading and activities this week to inform your answers.

Review the Sociology Matters prompt at the end of Ch. 6.

Write a 700-word response to one bullet at the end of the chapter.

Sociology matters because it makes us think about why some people in our society are treated better than others.

Do you hold any prejudices against subordinate racial or ethnic groups? If so, has your reading of this chapter helped you to see those groups from a different perspective? How would your life change if you yourself were a member of one of those groups?

Are you White? If so, what privileges, perhaps because of your race or citizenship, do you enjoy that you have always taken for granted? Can you think of a way to reduce one or more of those privileges so that others can be more equal—and would you cooperate with such an effort?

Sociology matters because it makes us more aware of prejudice and discrimination against members of certain racial and ethnic groups.

*Are you non-White? If so, what kinds of stereotyping and discrimination have you seen non-Whites experience? Do you think racial discrimination can be reduced through cooperative contact among people of different races?

Are you or your parents recent immigrants to the United States? If so, what is the primary basis on which others react to you—your ethnic group, race, or country of origin? Do you think you or your children will someday blend into mainstream society in the United States, and if so, what might hasten that process?
