Different Interpretations of Edgar Allen Poe The Tell- Tale Heart

This project is asking you to find out what others have said about the story you have analyzed. To do this, first identify and read three different articles each with a different interpretation from which you have written on. With these interpretations and yours, you have four interpretations of the same story. Now, write a six paragraph essay to complete with an introduction, a four body paragraph, and a conclusion.

For the introduction, clearly indicate the purpose of this project (e.g. the purpose of this essay is to share different interpretations of Edgar Allen Poe The Tell- Tale Heart). Thereafter, state the full names of the authors whose interpretations are the target of this essay, including yours (LaTiya), but do not write the title of the article. After each articles authors name, in a different sentence, state what the authors subject of the story is.

In each of the four body paragraphs (one for each author you mentioned in your introduction), without directly quoting, report by summarizing that authors interpretation starting by stating the author’s thematic (thesis) statement. Follow this with a detailed explanation of how the author supported his claim (you must not quote directly from the article except in the case of a word or phrase). The last of these body paragraphs will be about you reporting on your own interpretation in your critical analysis.

The conclusion indicates what this project tells you about the interpretation of literary works.

What motivated Anton Kriel to do this lecture?  Based on the context in which Kriel discusses the concept what is a principle?  What is Kriel’s complaint about mass education?  Which one of the five principles do you find most useful and how could you apply it to help you reach your goals in life? Please answer these questions and explain your answers.  Also quote from the video and other material you’ve explored this semester. 

As you watch the Kriel lecture and begin work on the exercise here is one thing to think about.

When writing about an abstraction such as freedom, independence, etc., a metaphor becomes important.  A metaphor makes an abstraction more concrete.  An abstraction is invisible while the metaphor is something we can see.

Thus being able to do what we want, when we want, how we want or waking up when we want and working when we want are metaphors for freedom and time.  And the metaphor can be used as a definition too.  What is freedom?  Answer:  I wake-up when I want, go to bed when I want, do what I want, when I want, how I want.  With a definition like this one then we can approach an issue like how to gain such freedom.  What do people who have gained such freedom know, have learned, have done, etc.  

The metaphor thus becomes about doing what we want with our time instead of giving our time, our freedom to others so they can do what they want, when they want.  I suggest watching Layan Bubbly’s short video again after you watch Kriel’s lecture.

Do you want to spend a third of your life (time) or more on this planet working for someone else no matter if you want to be a nurse, engineer, lawyer, pilot?  Does your time on this plant belong to your boss, a company, clients, customers for them to get ahead while you’re just a piece of their plan?  I say no!  Don’t wait so that years from now you realize how much time you’ve given away.
