SERIES CIRCUITS VW REFERENCE READING Principles of Electric Circuits: Sectang 81 through 6-4. RELATED PROBLEMS FROM PRINCIPLES OF ELECTRIC CIRCUITS Chapter 5, Problems 1 through 26. OBJECTIVE To verify that the total resistance in a series-connected circuit is the sum of the individual resistances. EQUIPMENT dc power supply 0-10 V DMM or VOM Resistors (+5%): 110 2k12 322 3.9 kn 6.1 kn BACKGROUND When resistors are connected in series, the current that will flow is calculated from a knowledge of the total resistance. The total resistance in this case is simply the spm of the individual resistors, By knowing the total resistance, the voltage required for a desired current or the current resulting from an applied voltage can easily be calculated. One of the purposes of this experiment is to provide you with still more experience in using your DMM. You will use it on the ohms, volts, and milliampe functions in verifying the Series Resistor Rule.
PROCEDURE 1. Calculate the upper and lower limits of the resistance for each resistor and re- cord these in Table 8-1. 2. Use the ohmmeter to measure the actual values of each resistor and record these in the row labeled Rynene 3. Complete Table 8-1 by calculating the upper and lower limits to R. (= R + R +R+ R + R) and then measuring the actual yalue of Rs by series-con- necting the rosistors. Does the measured value equal the sum of the individual measured values? If not, why not? Using a value for V, of 10 V, calculate the nominal, minimum, and maximum values for I in the circuit of Figure 8-1 and record them in Table 8-2. 5. Connect the circuit in Figure 8-1 and adjust V, to a value of 10 V. Measure the current I and record it under Ibon in Table 8-2. (Does it appear consistent with Rees?) Using a value for 1 of 0.5 mA, calculate the nominal, minimum, and maximum values for V. in order to sustain this current through the series combination, Record these in Table 8-9. 7. Connect the circuit and adjust V, until I = 0.5 mA. Measure the voltage and record it in Table 8-3. (Does it appear consistent with me?) MAX 3R₂ M Ry RA FIGURE 8-1

Name Date QUESTIONS FOR EXPERIMENT 8 1. If the moagured value of Ry did not equal the sum of the indi- vidually measured resistances, you might conclude that (a) the resistors had changed in value (b) the resistors were out of tolerance (c) the ohmmeter measurements are subject to some error (d) all of the above 2. Three regiators of value 1 k12, 2 k., and 3 k 2. each having a tolerance of 15 percent, are series-connected across a 10 V source. The smallest current you would expect to flow in the circuit is (a) 1.59 mA (b) 1.67 mA (c) 1.75 mA (d) none of these 3. The current through each resistor in a series-connected circuit such as that in Figure B-1 is the same. (a) True (b) False 4. If the resistor tolerances in this experiment had been 10 per- cent, the maximum current through the series combination with a 10 V source would have been (a) 61 mA (b) 606 A (c) 741 A (d) 667 mA 5. If any resistor in a series circuit ia reduced in value, the total current will increase. Explain why this is so. CARLY COSTUANDUSPAUDAZNAISILTA VUOTASIS GLO W 6. If two resistors in a series circuit guffer a change in resistance such that one increases by 10 percent and the other decreases by 10 percent, explain why the current will not necessarily stay constant. Utilize a minimum of five credible scholarly sources to inform your thinking on the topic, in addition to required course resources as applicable.  Additional credible references are encouraged.

Thus far, we have considered the major themes of social psychology: social thinking, social relations, and social influence.  In this interactive assignment, we will integrate knowledge from all three areas to provide a comprehensive analysis of a social movement, issue, event, or idea.
To inform your thinking on this topic, begin by reading “The Self System in Reciprocal Determinism” (Bandura, 1978) and “Social Action” (Synder & Omoto, 2007), and peruse The Stanford SPARQ Solutions Catalog (Links to an external site.).  In addition, review “Ten Simple Rules for Making Good Oral Presentations” (Bourne, 2007) and “Ten Simple Rules for a Good Poster Presentation” (Erren & Bourne, 2007).
Then, identify a current or historical social movement (e.g., the Tea Party, Black Lives Matter, the Reformation, etc.), issue (e.g., gay marriage, school choice, abortion, slavery, etc.), event (e.g., the 2016 Presidential election, the Rwandan genocide, the Bubonic Plague, etc.), or idea (e.g., democracy, the nuclear family, peace, etc.).  Create a multimedia presentation (e.g., a video, poster, etc.) that depicts the selected topic in enough detail that classmates, even with no prior knowledge, will gain a basic understanding.  (For additional guidance, review a guide for creating Presentations (Links to an external site.), available through the Ashford Writing Center.).  Your presentation should apply psychological insight from at least two of the three areas covered thus far in the course (social thinking, social relations, and/or social influence) to analyze relevant social factors.  In your presentation, interpret social psychological theory and research, including the concept of reciprocal determinism in relation to this social movement, issue, event, or idea.  Describe research methods used to investigate relevant phenomena and summarize actual or hypothetical applications of social psychological insight.   Employ knowledge from social psychology to identify specific careers or disciplines that might be especially well suited to addressing the underlying issues in your example.  Be sure to maintain an objective stance.  (In other words, if you select a social issue, avoid sharing your opinion regarding the “right” or “wrong” view.  Your classmates should not be able to determine your personal views based on what you post.).
You must include a both a multimedia component (e.g., link to or embedded PowerPoint, screencast, video recording, etc.) and a transcript or other written component that fully explains the audio or visual elements. Please utilize APA style to format your transcript or other written component. Upload the completed assignment (including both the multimedia component and the written component) into Waypoint.  Next week, you will share your presentation with your classmates in a discussion forum.
Utilize a minimum of five credible scholarly sources to inform your thinking on the topic, in addition to required course resources as applicable.  Additional credible references are encouraged.
Note to Students: This assignment requires that you produce a visual presentation, supply a spoken audio narrative, and to listen the audio narrative of others.  Note you are also asked to provide a transcript of your presentation.

Were there Buddhist warriors at any point in history? (Hint: Look up the words “Shogun” and/or “Samurai” for some interesting insight.)

The popular characterization of Buddhism is one of peaceful contemplation. In common understanding Buddhists are thought of almost automatically as conscientious objectors in times of conflict.  I’ve had students say to me that “Buddhists are never violent.” After reading the three chapters that discuss Buddhism, how would you refute or answer that claim?

If you need help supporting your answer, check out this article by Justin Rowan The Rise of Buddhism in Politics and War:

In this discussion, the focus is on examining agencies responsible for child protection. You will sharpen your technology skills by creating an infographic about a specific agency. Infographics are a way to visualize data and information using text and graphics and can be powerful instructional tools, as noted in the Teaching with infographics presentation and further explained in the Week Two Instructor Guidance. Prepare for this discussion by reading Rubin (2012) Chapter 1, thePrinciples and Philosophy resource, and the Week Two Instructor Guidance. Then, using the software of your choosing, be sure to attach or link to your infographic in your initial post. Your infographic will be included in the Week Six Final Project.

Initial Post: Create an infographic using the software of your choice that includes the following:

  1. An engaging title for the infographic.
  2. A summary of a specific child protection agency’s vision, mission, guiding principles, or philosophies.
  3. A summary of how the agency’s philosophies, principles, and key policies support or align with the philosophical tenets promoted by the Adoption and Safe Families Act (ASFA) 1997.
  4. At least one image in the infographic.
  5. A references section that cites all information summarized in the infographic, including the child protection agency you researched and at least one other local, state, national, for-profit or non-profit organization.

Must include 2 APA cited references.
