This URL above will be a zoom video about my professor discussing the “midterm review slides.” It might help you understand the slides better.

Instructions: Please look at “History Midterm” document, “Midterm Review Slides” and watch that URL above.

ID-
You will need to pick 4 out of the 6 “ID’s” that she has listed. For EACH of the ID’s that you choose to write about, you will need to write about 100-200 words. In this area, you should try your best to describe in great detail what these ID’s mean, where they took place, when they happened, who they affected, and why they were significant in history. In the “midterm review slides” document, you can see she gave an example on how to write about an ID. She chose Headright System and wrote what the id description should look like on page 7 of the slides.

Essay-
900-1000 words. Pick either Prompt #1 or Prompt #2 on the “History Midterm document.” Then view “Magic Essay Generator” document to help organize thoughts. View the “midterm review slides” for further information and instruction in this area. Then look at the “british colonies comp chart,” and the “primary sources” to help back your claims up.

The review slides will help alot. If you think you need anymore information, please let me know.

Power, politics, and Collective Bargaining on Organizational Climate
List and support your reasons for or against striking.
You are a staff nurse in the ICU in one of your city’s two hospitals. You have worked at this hospital for 5 years and transferred to the ICU 2 years ago. You love nursing but are sometimes frustrated in your job due to a short supply of nurses, excessive overtime demands, and the stress of working with such critically ill patients.
The hospital has a closed shop, so union dues are deducted from your pay even though you are not actively involved in the union. The present union contract is up for renegotiation, and union and management have been unable to agree on many issues. When management made its last offer, the new contract was rejected by the nurses. Now that the old contract has expired, nurses are free to strike if they vote to do so.
You had voted for accepting the management offer; you have two children to support, and it would be devastating to be without work for a long time. Last night, the nurses voted on whether to return to the bargaining table and try to renegotiate with management or to go out on strike. Again, you voted for no strike. You have just heard from your friend that the strike vote won. Now, you must decide if you are going to support your striking colleagues or cross the picket line and return to work tomorrow. Your friends are pressuring you to support their cause. You know that the union will provide some financial compensation during the strike but believe that it will not be adequate for you to support yourself and your children. Yo agree with union assertions that the organization has overworked and underpaid you and that it has been generally unresponsive to nursing needs. On the other hand, you believe that your first obligation is your children.
Using a problem-solving and decision making skills model discussed in class outline how you would approach solving this difficult decision. Describe how you arrived at your decision. How many alternatives did you generate? If you were financially stable without a family would your decision have been the same?

Opponent-Process Theory – The Nursing TermPaper

Opponent-Process Theory
The opponent-process theory suggests that we often experience emotions in opposing pairs such as fear and relief or pleasure and pain. When we experience one end of the spectrum, the other end is temporarily suppressed and thus we rarely experience the two at the same time. However, there are times when we experience both emotions before the first emotion fades. When this happens, the experience can be uncomfortable or even strangely enjoyable.
A good example of this process is skydiving, which was the basis of the primary research into this theory. When a person skydives for the very first time, the jump elicits high levels of fear and relatively low levels of pleasure, even upon landing. However, as the skydiver gains more experience, the level of fear decreases while pleasure increases. Often, the skydiver feels both at the same time, resulting in high levels of excitement.
Another example is shopping and the guilt that often follows. For example, a woman finds a new dress that she loves but not having the money, she charges the new dress. She immediately feels excitement and pleasure with her new purchase. However, soon after getting home, she begins to feel guilt for charging a dress that she wanted, but did not really need.
Now, read the following article:

Solomon, R. L., & Corbit, J. D. (1974). An opponent-process theory of motivation: I. temporal dynamics of affect. Psychological Review, 81(2), 119–145. doi:10.1037/h0036128. (ProQuest Document ID: 614270014)http://www.thecampuscommon.com/library/ezproxy/ticketdemocs.asp?sch=auo&turl=http://search.ebscohost.com.libproxy.edmc.edu/login.aspx?direct=true&db=pdh&AN=1974-26855-001&site=eds-livedocview/614270014?accountid=34899

Based on your analysis of the article, explain in detail how the opponent-process theory works. Be sure to address the following:

How does the opponent-process theory explain why drug addiction is so difficult to break?
With this understanding, what can a person do to affect their emotions in a way that helps them break their addiction?

Write your initial response in 3–4 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
