The purpose of the Final Paper is to apply critical insight to discern fact from fiction with regard to a topical area of your choice. You will review the available evidence for a commonly held belief and provide a conclusion regarding the merit of this claim by describing concepts in core psychological domains and examining variations in psychological functioning.

To complete this activity,

  • Write an introduction paragraph for your topic. (You must continue with your selected topic identified in Week 3, unless you have received permission from your instructor otherwise.)
  • Develop supporting Body Paragraphs (Links to an external site.) that apply a professional psychological perspective to a commonly held belief about why people think or act as they do. Consider both perspectives. Use headings as necessary to organize your work. (Use your sources identified in your Week 3 annotated bibliography, your course content, as well as any additional scholarly resources that support your argument. The Fact or Fiction? Final Paper

  • Must be five double-spaced pages in length at minimum (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA Style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center’s APA Style  (Links to an external site.)resource.
  • Must include a separate title page with the following:
  • Must utilize academic voice. See the Academic Voice (Links to an external site.) resource for additional guidance.
  • Must include an introduction and conclusion paragraph. Your introduction paragraph needs to end with a clear thesis statement that indicates the purpose of your paper.
  • Must use at least three scholarly, peer-reviewed sources. These may be from Week 3 annotated bibliography, unless your instructor has requested the use of differing sources.
  • Must document any information used from sources in APA Style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center’s APA: Citing Within Your Paper (Links to an external site.) guide.
  • Must include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA Style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. See the Formatting Your References List (Links to an external site.) resource in the Ashford Writing Center for specifications.

Directions
In this assignment, you’ll take on the role of a healthcare administrator whose job it is to write a professional code of ethics for your organization. You can select the type of organization you’re most familiar with. For example, hospital, clinic, nursing home, or HMO, to name a few as the audience for your policy. Keep in mind that the type of organization you’re writing for will affect what you must address in your policy.
Step 1Begin by reviewing at least three examples of real health care organizations’ codes of ethics. You can use some you’ve already seen in this course’s Learning Plans (for example, ACHE’s or the Public Health Code of Ethics), or locate a few on your own. Your reference list should include a citation for each example you looked at.
Step 2Write a professional Code of Ethics for your organization, modeling it on the codes you have reviewed. Include at least 1 element from each example code you looked at. For example, the Public Health Code of Ethics includes a section explaining its development process. Other ethics codes include instructions about what to do if an employee sees a breach of ethics. These are just two examples of elements you might include in your own code.
Include at least 6 ethical guidelines your organization will follow, plus a brief (2-3 sentence) explanation of why you have included each one.
Step 3Below your Code of Ethics, write an 8-10 sentence paragraph that explains the relationship between a Code of Ethics and moral integrity.
