approaching the everyday argument

Approaching the Everyday Argument
Instructions:
This week your goal is to put an academic argument to real use as you create a persuasive text for a real-world audience outside of the university setting.  Your purpose statement will explain how you considered the audience and purpose when making decisions about your everyday argument.

Part One: The Visual Argument

Create your own visual argument by completing the following:

Create a one-page public advocacy poster that targets a specific audience with a message about your issue. The message will clearly give your audience a sense of what to do after viewing your poster.  You will use a combination of words and images to persuade your audience to accept your message.

Not interested in creating a ‘poster?’  Try another type of medium that might more effectively spread your message to the person/people who can do something about your issue.  Consider alternative types of texts such as a PowerPoint presentation, a petition statement and letter, social media pages, a series of memes, a website, a YouTube video, a podcast, a song, etc.  As long as it is your own creation, any medium is welcome.

Part Two: Purpose Statement

For your purpose statement, provide a written response to the following:
Who is your audience for the everyday argument?
Why is the type of argument you chose the most effective way to reach that audience?
What is your main claim?  In other words, what do you want your audience to do?
How do you appeal to the audiences emotions?
How do you establish credibility with your audience?
Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format.

The advancement of APRN practice.

There are three troublesome issues that have emerged in the advancement of APRN practice. These issues in APRN include: 1) the clear role development and morphed to fill gaps in services; 2) the lack of clarity regarding role uniqueness; and 3) the dearth in nursing specific outcomes. From your readings this week, discuss 1 of the 3 questions. Begin your discussion with the question you will be addressing.

Why might the development and morphing of roles based on gaps in medicine be problematic for advancement of APRNs? What actions might a nurse take to reduce this?
In what ways can an APRN distinguish his or her role from other nursing roles and medical counterparts? Why might this be important?
How can APRNs encourage nursing-based outcome studies?

Scholars in every academic discipline share certain expectations and norms for publication in their scholarly journals and texts. While experts and/or professionals in some disciplines uphold a strict standard of academic writing, others allow a more flexible rhetorical style. In general, academic writers strive to influence the communities of their respective discipline by following the norms.

While communities of scholars strive to ensure quality in their disciplines, they also recognize a certain level of subjectivity in determining the quality of academic writing. Analyzing each author’s quality of evidence, awareness of the target audience, and potential for personal bias will help you determine the appropriateness of books, articles, and other documents that are read.

For this Assignment, you evaluate a scholarly article. As you review the article, consider the ways that the different backgrounds of the authors and their readers may affect both the creation and the interpretation of the writing.

To Prepare
In Week 2, you explored ways to search for articles. For this Assignment, search the Walden Library and select a scholarly, peer-reviewed article related to public policy and administration or in your field of interest.
Consider how different audiences might interpret the selected article. Pay particular attention to the quality of evidence that the author(s) present.
The Assignment (1–2 pages)
Summarize the article you selected.
Evaluate the quality of evidence, appropriateness of the content, and writing style for the target audience, and the author’s potential bias, if any.
Explain whether the article meets professional standards for scholarly writing and why.
Explain how different audiences (e.g., domestic vs. international perspectives) could interpret the article differently and why.
