Creative arts therapy applications research paper and interview

Student-generated Research Paper and Interview

For this assignment, you will select a population who is served by a creative arts therapy to study independently, and present your findings in a written format based on several prompts (i.e. briefly describe the population and setting where you might find this therapy practiced). The chosen topic should be one that you have a personal interest in and want to learn more about. You will find a creative arts therapist who works with this population and arrange an in-person, video, or phone interview to write about in your paper.

Please use the following as a guideline for your paper:

Was one population chosen?

Where example settings where this population might be served provided?

Does the paper explain how the creative arts are used with this population or the benefits the creative arts provide?

Do you agree with the benefits provided?

Did you interview a therapist to gain insight into their perspective?

Shattered Glass film review

Watch the film Shattered Glass (Lionsgate, 2004).

Questions for you to answer:

[a] What scene in the film made the strongest impression on you? Please describe. 6-8 sentences

[b] What habits did Glass develop that proved harmful to him? How can you avoid developing comparable bad habits yourself? 8-10 sentences

[b] What advice would you give to editors about how to avoid hiring someone like Stephen Glass? What kind of pre-employment screening do you recommend?8-10 sentences

A word of caution: We’re not asking you to find outside commentary on this film. You’re being asked to think and write for yourself. Much of what we see online about the film is demonstrably wrong–and an invitation to plagiarism.

English 500 word paper

This lab requires that you watch one of the speeches in the Great Speeches Series and write a 500 word paper incorporating the questions below.

The Great Speeches videos are available at the Oviatt Library or in the Aronstam Library (located on the second floor of Manzanita Hall).  You can also look in the “Great Speeches” section of your Video Library.

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO LOOK FOR YOUR SPEECH.

Locate a copy as soon as possible. It is very important that you watch and not only listen to the speech as it was originally delivered. Both verbal and nonverbal aspects of delivery are very important part sof public speaking. You may also want to find a copy of the text of the speech; however, this is NOT required.

Watching this speech should take about 30-45 minutes so make sure to schedule it into your week. As you address the following questions, incorporate concepts from class discussions or readings in your paper:

  1. Does the speaker demonstrate good ethos, pathos and logos?
  2. Does the speaker have a clear organization pattern?
  3. Does the speaker have a clear introduction with attention getter, thesis/goal and a preview of the main points?
  4. Are the main points of the speech clear in the body of the speech and are there smooth transitions between the main points?
  5. How did the speaker indicate he/she was ending his/her speech?
  6. Did the speaker review the main points?
  7. Was this an effective speech? Why?
  8. Who do you think was the intended audience?
  9. Do you think the speech is still relevant today?
  10. Why is this speech considered a “great speech”?

Please write your responses in essay format using Times New Roman size 12 and bring a typed copy into class on the due date of the lab. If you have written more than one page, please make sure to have them stapled together. The prompt for this assignment will only be available until the day of class at 7 AM. Please do NOT submit to the website! Just bring to class 🙂
