Evaluating Program Manuals

Evaluating Program Manuals. Due by Day 7. The purpose of the family and staff manuals are to provide written documentation of the policies and procedures used in the decision making and daily operations of a program. These in-house publications should be grounded in the program’s core values, vision, and mission while providing specific guidelines for how it will abide by applicable laws and regulations. The formulation, implementation, and evaluation of these materials are critical to the program administrator role. These manuals are invaluable tools for program success and, for that reason, they deserve careful thought and consideration. Thoughtfully created policies and procedures guide families and staff and contribute to the program’s smooth operation by creating shared understandings.

After reading Chapter 4 of this week’s text,

  • Review the staff manual and family handbooks from the center you selected in Week 1.
  • Create a document in which you provide
    • One example of how the following guidelines are communicated (see the table below).
  • For each example, provide either a recommendation to improve the clarity or an approval with a rationale of why/how the statement is ideal.
    • One suggested category of your own choosing that—based on the course content—you believe should be defined.

Review the case studies of Colleen M. and Xander L. located in the Juvenile Offender Case Studies document.

Compute the risk assessment score for each of these individuals using two of the risk assessment devices you located in your Collaborative Activity this week.

Create a 10- to 12-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation with detailed speaker notes in which you include the following:

  • Summarize your risk assessment.
  • Compare the results you obtain for each individual from the two different assessments.
  • Indicate what additional information you would have liked to have had.
  • Recommend a potential correctional strategy for each of the individuals.

Format all citations and references in accordance with APA guidelines.

Submit your assignment.

JET COPIES (THIS IS THE SET UP FOR THE PROBLEM)

A copier was purchased for $18,000 by loan.

They needed an estimate of just how much money they might lose if they did not have a backup copier.  To get this estimate, they decided to develop a simulation model. First, they needed to know how frequently the copier might break down, specifically the time between breakdowns.  It was estimated that the time between breakdowns was probably between 0 and 6 weeks with the probability increasing the longer the copier went without breakdowns . Repair time looks like:

REPAIR TIME (DAYS)                     PROBABILITY

1                                                          .20

2                                                          .45

3                                                          .25

4                                                          .10

                                                            1.00

The needed to know how much business they would lose while waiting for the copier to be fixed.  The final estimate was they would sell between 2,000 and 8,000 copies per day at $0.10 per copy.   They decided to use a uniform probability distibution between 2,000 and 8,000 copies to estimate the number of copies they would sell per day.

If their loss of revenue due to machine breakdown during year 1 was $12,000 or more, they need to purchase a backup copier.  The need to simulate the breakdown and repair process for a number of years to obtain an average annual loss of revenue.  First they decided to do a manual simulation

1.  In EXCEL, use a suitable method for generating the number of days needed to repair the copier when it is

out of  service according to the discrete distribution shown.

#2. In EXCEL , use a suitable method for simulationg the interval between succcessive breakdowns, according to

        the continuous distribution shown.

#3. In EXCEL use a suitable method for simulationg the lost revenue for each day the copier is out of

       service.

#4.  Put all of this together to simulate the lost revenue due to copier breakdown over a 1 year period.

#5.  Using WORD, write a brief description/explanation of how you implemented each component of the

2 paragraphs for EACH component of the model (day to day repair = 2 paragraphs)

(interval between breakdowns = 2 paragraphs)lost revenue = 2 paragraphs) and (putting it all

          together = 2 paragraphs).

#6.  Answer the question Should they buy a new copier as a backup?  What are the limits of this study. Explain in one paragraph.

PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL WORK IS COMPLETED FOR EACH QUESTION !

Identify a specific peer-reviewed article and explain how it could inform understanding of the problem/population, development of goals, or intervention and treatment plan

In order to provide the appropriate intervention, social workers first need to have conducted a thorough assessment. Having a comprehensive understanding of a client and their social environment, including the influence of racism and ethnocentrism, allows a social worker to accurately identify the presenting problems and help the client develop goals to address their needs. Not completing a full assessment may result in inaccurately identifying the presenting problem and pushing goals on the client to which they do not agree. A good assessment is the best foundation for treatment planning.
In addition, evidence based practice requires social workers to use the best available evidence to inform their practice decisions. This assignment helps you prepare for the final project by beginning to identify the presenting problem and possible goals, as well as beginning the research process to inform your treatment recommendations when working with the identified client in a case study.
CASE STUDY: JUAN AND ELENA

Submit a 3 pages paper in which you:

Identify the case you will be using for the final project
Describe the presenting problem(s)
Describe 2 goals for the client based on their presenting problem
Identify a specific peer-reviewed article and explain how it could inform understanding of the problem/population, development of goals, or intervention and treatment plan
Explain how ethnocentrism and racism may influence the case (make sure to draw from this week’s assigned readings)
