Taking examinations is a skill that requires careful attention. The purpose of this final paper is to allow you opportunities to explore an aspect of adolescence development and the family in-depth based on theories and research articles published in peer reviewed journals. The paper should be between 4-5 double-spaced pages of text (excluding references) and should be written in APA format. In evaluating the paper, I will consider the conceptual soundness/relevance of the topic and reviews, the extent to which you have developed concepts from the class within the domain of your area of expertise, and the clarity of your writing. Format: A typical paper will include a review of the relevant literature in both your area and in the relevant area of adolescent development, emphasizing on the unique influence of the family and/or other contextual factors (i.e., neighborhood, parenting and peer influence etc.). More specifically, you can think about your paper in three parts:

Part 1. Introduction Begin by introducing the topic and provide an argument of why this is an important topic to review. End by 1-2 sentences telling your readers how you are going to proceed with your review (e.g., I will review this topic by focusing on three factors: A, B, C).

Part 2. Review of relevant literature Synthesize and analyze the current theory and research in this topic. If you are including a specific theory, please be sure to indicate the relevance of the theory to the topic you are reviewing. For example, don’t just tell me about family systems theory, but how family systems theory can help explain, understand, and think about your topic.

Part 3. Summary and conclusion The conclusion should review and close your arguments. Summarize what you have learned from your review of literature. Discuss the implications of your review for future research and practice.

Summary & Conclusions &/or Implications: summarize the information that you discussed in the literature review-take a stand: state your opinion on the issue -suggest further steps in solving the problem -provide variables that are missing or that need further investigation, e.g., more studies that include ethnically diverse teens, stages of adolescence, use info discussed in class on problems with certain studies, etc.) So you have reviewed what the literature has said; what does this mean? Who should care? What conclusions can you draw or relate to your own life? What implications can you make from your research/lit review paper?

References: Include only references cited in the paper; these will include your readings and lecture notes (give date of lecture); make sure there is a minimum of 7 course readings -use APA format for citing the references -select appropriate professional journals and books and minimize the use of popular web-based information and textbooks

Effective clinical innovations and the dissemination of research findings are key elements in the growth and development of the psychology profession. There are numerous avenues that enable authors to publish and present their work. Poster presentations at conferences are effective methods for communicating research findings and providing opportunities to meet with other researchers and clinicians to discuss the research being presented. Thus, these types of conference presentations play a key role in the proliferation of research.

In this week’s discussion, you will be submitting your proposal for the Week Five Virtual Conference. You may utilize relevant assignments from previous courses in this program or suitable projects from your professional life. Following the guidelines presented in the document, create your proposal and attach it to your initial post in the discussion forum. • Abstract

            The purpose of this poster is to propose a program that psychologists, citizens, and government alike, can support.  No matter how uncomfortable of a reality it may be, systemic racism in policing is both factually supported and dreadfully experienced by the African-American community. Between the years of 2006 and 2012, a six year time line, local police departments submitted voluntary reports of justifiable homicides to the FBI that noted on average, there were ninety-six incidents where a white police officer killed a black person a year (Marable, 2015).  What’s more, Milner,George, and Allison (2016) noted that black men were 21 times more likely than their white counterpart to be shot and killed at the hands of police, and in New York, alone, half of the precincts showed that 90% of the people stopped and searched were African-American or Hispanic. Though this problem is very complex, the program P.S.B.C. or Protecting and Serving the Black Community was designed to address police brutality and discrimination that victimizes young black men across the country. Of course, one might argue that there are many groups of people that experience discrimination and/or police brutality. Though that may be true, Lowery (2016) notes that the developmental/racial group that experiences this the most is young African-American men between the ages of 18 and 29.

            Police brutality and discrimination against young adult African-American men has been and continues to be a serious problem nationwide. That is why it is vital for this program to not be limited to a specific region, for no part of the country is untouched by these tragic, recurring acts. Not only has this created a horrific social injustice, police brutality experienced by young African-American men, as Chaney and Robertson (2013) pointed out, causes physical, emotional, and psychological stress, which in turn effects individual development, and that is assuming the life is not ended, all together. With every news report becoming more difficult to watch than the last, there is no doubt the there is a broken relationship between the police and the African-American community.   There are, however, steps the P.S.B.C program has proposed to help reduce the repetition of these events.

             One solution the program offers is classes for police officers that provide counseling and education on implicit and explicit bias in policing. Classes can also be provided for civilians that teach them how to identify police misconduct and what to do while interacting with a police officer.  Body cameras worn by police officers can also build transparency and trust, so the community can know exactly what happened in such an encounter, thus promoting honesty and accountability. Additionally, non-lethal weapons could reduce the amount of fatalities in said encounters. Together, these facets of the Protecting and Serving the Black Community program should bring about positive results that will lead to a better relationship between the police and the African-American community, as young adult, African-American men are treated justly and humanely by police and are allowed to healthily develop physically, cognitively, emotionally, and psychosocially.
