ANALYZING VARIANCES.
Analyze the variances in the following scenario: You are the nursing administrator for a medical group that expects a severe out break of the flu this winter. You hire additional staff to treat the patients and administer shots. Your special project budget wasfor 1,000 hours of part-time nurses’ services at $40 per hour, fora total cost of $40,000. It was expected that these nurses wouldadminister 400 flu shots and treat 1,600 flu patients. The medicalgroup typically charges $50 for a flu shot and $80 for treating aflu patient. Actually, the group had 1,200 patients who receivedthe flu shot and 1,400 who had the flu and received treatment. Onaverage, it was able to collect $55 per flu shot and $70 per flupatient. Compute the volume, mix, and price revenue variances. How did things turn out for the group considering just revenues? How did they turn out from a profit perspective? Use either theapproach from chapter 8 or from Appendix 8-A to solve. Clearlylabel the calculations of the required variances using Excel. Useformulas to calculate the three variances and format the cells toinsert a comma if there is more than three numbers and round to thenearest whole number.

Water Use Inventory- Estimated Personal Water Use – custom papers

Water Use Inventory- Estimated Personal Water Use
These figures are estimates. There is a tremendous amount of variation. For example, if you have
a water-efficient toilet the water used per flush will be as low as 1.5-2 gallons per flush. The amount of
water used for tooth brushing, shaving, hand and face washing, and dishwashing will vary significantly
based on the time spent and the faucet setting. The amount of water used on yard will vary depending on
the area in need of water.
Directions:
1. Calculate the water flowrate of your shower.
????Determine the flow rate of your shower head. (Time to fill a known volume)
Determine the flow rate (gpm: gallons per minute) of your shower head. Include a description of the method you
used and any calculations or conversions you used to determine the flow rate from your shower head.
Then determine how long it would take to recover the cost of a 2.5 gpm shower head based on the savings from
the reduced flow shower head compared to your existing shower head (find one and cite it from an online
source like a plumbing supply store or home improvement store).
2. Use the data in the first table to fill in the “Estimated gallons per use or unit of time,” but
change the figures in that column if you have more accurate data about your personal water
use.
3. Create a PIE CHART (excel or similar programs) showing your own water use
percentages.
Use Conditions Estimated gallons

Personal Water Use Inventory
For shared activities like washing clothes, calculate your share of the water. For example, if
there are 4 people in your house/dorm room and the dish washing machine is estimated to use
30 gallons per load, your share is 30/4 = 7.5 gallons.
Refer to the website for the city of Flagstaff for the cost of water per gallon.
