As a selection strategy, interviews are intended to gauge future performance on the basis of oral responses, demeanor, body language, and so on. Interviews can be of different kinds, depending on the purpose. For example, interviews can be structured or situational. While interviews are a critical part of the selection process, and probably the most widely recognized, other assessment tests are also an important part of attempting to predict the future job performance and capabilities of candidates. Assessments can be considered a more objective measure than interviews and can be developed to precisely assess specific skills and competencies.

Directions

Write a 5- to 7-page paper that compares and contrasts interviews to noninterview employee selection assessments. In your paper, make sure you include a discussion of the following points:

Section 1: Noninterview Assessments

  • Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of relying on testing as the sole method of selection.
  • Identify two assessment tests and briefly summarize their structure and design and provide an example of a typical item for this type of test. Make sure to explain how the test is designed to assess a candidate’s prospects for a particular position and an example of content.
  • Evaluate the two tests and discuss factors that contribute to the appropriate use of a particular test for a particular situation. Why might a test not be the most effective choice?

Section 2: Selection Interviews

  • Select a pair of interview types from the list of three pairs provided below. Research and describe those two types and explain when their use would be most appropriate.
  • Behavioral versus situational
  • Panel versus individual
  • Structured versus unstructured
  • Compare and contrast the two types, exploring their advantages and disadvantages, as well as their use. Provide 5 questions for each type of interview you choose.

Section 3: Interviews vs. Noninterview Assessments

  • Based on your research, compare and contrast interviews versus noninterviews in terms of efficacy in meeting organizational objectives.
  • Identify any areas of susceptibility to adverse impact in the assessment tests or interviews.
  • Analyze how the selection process can be enhanced by combining assessment tests with interviews.

Submission Details:

  • By the due date assigned, save your report into a Microsoft Word document in APA format and utilizing at least six scholarly sources.
  • Save the report as M3_A2_LastName_FirstInitial.doc and submit it to the Submissions Area. Your paper should be written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Informatics Solution Proposal: General Solution

The department aims to improve quality health care delivery. The administrative problem that exists is the loss of patient’s data hence the category of the technology solution that would be appropriate for this department is an addition of computerized provider order entry (CPOE) as it will minimize the loss of patient’s data. CPOE entails entering and sending of treatment instructions such as patient’s medication, radiology, and laboratory orders through a computer application instead of using manual paperwork. It enables the physicians to enter the medications, and care orders for patients hence aim to improve patient safety and care.

CPOE is appropriate for solving the problem of losing the patient’s data hence reduce the need to conduct repeated tests that increase the cost of healthcare. It is beneficial since it minimizes possible medical errors by producing clear, standardized and complete orders (Coustasse, Shaffer, Conley, Coliflower, Deslich & Sikula, 2015). It also contains the clinical decision support system that checks the patient’s medical allergies, drug interactions and any other problem that might occur in health care thus improving the patient’s safety (Berner, 2009). CPOE improves on efficiency since providers can electronically submit various orders.

All the orders entered to CPOE becomes an integrated part of the medical records that the providers send directly to laboratories, radiology, and pharmacies hence improve communication between the providers and the healthcare team. They retrieve the information faster, therefore, saving on time and enhance efficiency in patient care delivery.

Moreover, CPOE provides comprehensive documentation of the patient’s case and the medical history that act as a reference point for the provider to administer medication or decide whether to change the treatment plan for the patient (Coustasse et al., 2015). It, therefore, allows the physician to design the most appropriate treatment at lower costs thus improving patient’s quality care. Additionally, the use of CPOE enhances reimbursement. As it is, some orders might require pre-approval from the insurance plans hence CPOE facilitate order pre-approvals thus minimizing the possibility of rejected insurance claims.

However, in all aspects of healthcare, the use of information technology contributes to the rise of ethical issues. The use of CPOE can thus cause more ethical problems within the healthcare institution (Slight, Eguale, Amato, Seger, Whitney, Bates & Schiff, 2015). For instance, patients might no longer have the right to privacy and make an independent decision regarding their health status since almost all the medical providers involved in ensuring patient’s recovery can access the information and contribute towards clinical decisions. In most cases, the physicians share the patient’s medical information without their consent hence compromising their treatment. The system risk being affected by the breach of data to a third party due to physician’s mistakes, theft or cyber attacks that threaten confidentiality and privacy of patient’s health information hence it becomes available to unauthorized persons without the patient’s consent (Slight et al., 2015).

It is essential to appreciate the role of CPOE in solving the administrative problem which is the loss of the patient’s data since it provides many benefits to the administration thus enhancing patient care and safety. However, it also becomes crucial to identify potential issues that might arise as they directly impact the patient. Hence it becomes critical to address the ethical issues that might occur due to the use of CPOE to ensure there is an improved quality of patient care and safety.
