Students will view the movie My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding, and address multicultural issues from a counselor’s perspective.  The student will complete a bio-psycho-social assessment on one of the main characters. The clinical assessment and focus of the paper should address the multicultural, developmental, gender, and racial issues that will influence the counseling process.  The paper should present the student’s overall understanding of the significance of becoming a culturally competent counselor.

1.Select one individual* and present a brief bio-psycho-social assessment including: age, socioeconomic status, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, family history, environmental factors, coping mechanisms, diversity and life cycle stage.  Use examples to illustrate your assessment.
2.Identify two interpersonal relationships in the client’s life and discuss how these have either strengthened or stressed the client’s mental health and well-being.
3. Discuss relevant social systems including communities, living situation, groups, organizations or institutions that have impacted the client’s life.
4.Discuss issues you think would emerge in your client/counselor relationship (i.e.: transference/counter-transference, resistance.)
5.Talk about the issue/s that may have brought the client to counseling.  Choose two treatment goals you would begin working on and discuss the treatment outcomes you would expect. 
*Keep in mind that you are to discuss the selected character as if they were actually your client.  You may embellish or elaborate on some details if you are unsure.
