Week 4 discussion | Algebra homework help

This week we looked at what a function is, and various operations and properties of functions.

Rideshare companies such as Uber and Lyft often charge a flat fee, in addition to per mile rates and other fees. Other cab companies may include per minute rates in addition to the per mile and pickup charge.

Using your own experience or some Internet research (ride.guru or taxifarefinder.com are great resources):

  1. Write an equation that represents the rideshare or cab company’s rate for your area. Is this a function? Why or why not?
  2. Using that equation, how much would it cost to go from your home to your job or other important location?
  3. Which of the parent equations covered this week does your equation match? What transformations were done to it to get your equation?

Accounting for investments | Accounting homework help

Review the following case study:

FASB ASC 320 requires companies to assign their portfolio of investment securities into:

  • Trading securities.
  • Securities available for sale.
  • Held-to-maturity securities.

Write a response of no more than 1,500 words in which you answer the following:

  • Define each of these categories of securities and discuss the accounting treatment for each category.
  • Discuss how companies are required to assign each category of securities into its current and noncurrent portions.
  • Discuss the arguments for each position. Some individuals maintain that the only proper accounting treatment for all marketable securities is current value. Others maintain that this treatment might allow companies to “manage earnings”.
