Discuss how those who enter the courtroom as “innocent until proven guilty” may not be recognized as such. Identify and discuss the five characteristics of a group. Would you consider the member of a football team a group? Why or why not? How is assimilation different from multiculturalism? Do you believe multiculturalism is more prominent within society than assimilation? Why or why not? Describe the verbal communication process and note how miscommunication occurs. Describe the similarities between the “typical criminal” and the “symbolic assailant.” Do you believe it is effective police practice for officers to identify individuals as threats based on demographic profiles? Do you believe it is fair for officers to do so?
