What key things have you learned about organizations and management in social work?

What key things have you learned about organizations and management in social work?

SOCW3010 Assessment Task 3:
Reflective essay: 45% of marks
The purpose of this assignment is for you to bring together key learnings from the course about social work as organisational practice. You will critically reflect on your learnings by linking course material and theory with your experiences and observations about your placement or your work in a human service organisation (or if this is not possible in a hypothetical organisation from the tutorials).
Assessment task:
You will write a reflective essay which answers the question: “What key things have you learned about organizations and management in social work?
Due: 24 November 2019 11PM
Word length: 2,500 words +/-10%
Note about early submission Given how this assessment is structured around specific topics you will be able to complete sections during the term, rather than needing to leave the essay to the end of the course. This mean you can submit the assessment before the due date, if you choose to reflect on 4 issues covered early in the course.
Guidelines
▪ In writing this essay you will choose 4 topics from the course. This means you will select: 3 of the 7 issues covered in weeks 3 to 9; and 1 of the 8 organisational theories outlined in week 2. Note you can include a reflection about ethical practice (Week 10), but please note this week is close to the submission date.
▪ You will analyse your past practice on placement or a human service agency in which you have worked for each of the issues and theory you selected. If you have not been on placement or worked in a human services organisation you will need to use one of the three case studies used in the tutorials (Avalon Care or Bluegum Community Services or and Currajong Metal Health).
▪ In writing the essay you will:
o briefly describe your practice experience for each of your 4 topics (3 practice issues and 1 organisational theory)
o use the organisational and management literature to analyse your practice
o evaluate your practice learning
o finally reflect on the implications for your future social work practice.
▪ In structuring and writing the essay, you will:
o combine personal reflections with academic literature. You should write in the first person when discussing your experience
o have an introduction and a conclusion to the paper (about 50 words)
o allocate between 400-600 words on each issue/theory (total 2000 words)
o have numbered pages, be one and a half spaced and in at least 11-point font.
o use proper referencing, including a correctly formatted reference list.
▪ Assignments which do not comply will not be marked.
▪ Assignments more than 10% over the maximum word count will be penalised
▪ More detailed guidance will be provided on Moodle after Assessment 1 has been marked.
Marking criteria
See marking rubric on Moodle for a detailed explanation of the marking criteria.
You will see that each of your four reflections will be marked separately, using the same three criteria:
1. Learning about organisational practice (6% of total marks)
2. Interconnections between learning and course materials (7% of total marks)
3. Evaluation of your learning and implications for professional practice (7% of total marks)
This means each reflection about a practice issue or theory is worth 20% of the total mark for Assessment 3.
Blogs
See the information on Organisational Practice Blogs. You need to submit at least two blog posts. Ideally these should be about some of the topics you have selected for Assessment 3.

Writer’s notebook 3.2 | English homework help

For this Writer’s Notebook, you will write two paragraphs, a counterargument and a refutation paragraph. You will use the essay “What’s a College Education Really Worth?” by Naomi Schaefer Riley as the counterargument. In other words, you will prove why she is wrong in your refutation paragraph. You will defend the thesis statement “The benefits of graduating from a four-year university outweigh the negatives.”

  1. Read and take notes over the article “What’s a College Education Really Worth? Not Enough” by Naomi Schaefer Riley (link above).
  2. Read and take notes over the handout “Writing a Counterargument and Refutation Paragraph” that is attached.
  3. Complete the counterargument and refutation activity for your next Writer’s Notebook activity below.

You are required to have a counterargument in your final argumentative research essay. Your next Writer’s Notebook activity will help you practice writing counterarguments and refutation paragraphs. These are not easy paragraphs to write. Be sure to follow the templates provided to you in the PPT/handout.

  1. In your counterargument paragraph, you will quote from the article “What’s a College Education Really Worth?” by Naomi Schaefer Riley.
  2. In your refutation paragraph, you will come up with reasons why graduating from a four-year university has more benefits than negatives.
  3. Follow the ideas in the handout over counterarguments and refutations.

In the end you will have TWO paragraphs: a counterargument that uses Schaefer Riley’s ideas and quotes from that article and a refutation paragraph that has your own ideas about why graduating from college is beneficial. If you want, you may find an article that has a good quote about the benefits of graduating from college and use it in your refutation paragraph. But it is not required. You can simply use your own ideas.

Grading rubric:

  • Only the opposing view is in the counterargument     10
  • Only the author’s claim is in the refutation                  10
  • Counterargument paragraph
    • Opens with a transition                                    10

    • Explanation of evidence                                   5
    • Summary sentence                                          5
  • Refutation paragraph
    • Opens with an acknowledgment                     10
    • Transitions to claim                                         10

What motivated the producers of all the individual products in the store to make them and offer them for sale? How did the producers decide on the best combinations of resources to use? Who made those resources available and why? How does the market determine who will get the goods and services? Who decides whether these particular products should continue to be produced and offered for sale? How do these decisions differ between capitalist and socialist systems?
