Question: For this weekâ€s assignment:

1) Download the “Complete 9/11 Commission Report” found at http://govinfo.library.unt.edu/911/report/911Report.pdf (Links to an external site.) .

2) Read those parts of “The 9/11 Commission Report” related to communications problems found at the World Trade Center complex. Problems related to the FAA, NORAD, the White House, FBI, etc. are not considered problems with the WTC complex even though they appear in “The 9/11 Commission Report.”

3) Describe two different difficulties that were faced on 9/11 with the WTC communications systems as cited in “The 9/11 Commission Report.” NOTE: The two communications problems should not appear within 15 pages of each other in “The 911 Commission Report.” Make sure you provide page numbers AND paragraph numbers from “The 9/11 Commission Report” in your reference citations to identify where you found your information

4) Have these difficulties been resolved? Describe the most current status on resolving the difficulties you selected in No.3. If you use an article for your research piece, provide at least one properly styled APA “in text reference citation,” including page number(s), in your response that identifies where you found your research. You should also include a Reference List with a properly APA-styled source entry. If you researched a video, the web address will suffice as long as you include a short statement as to how the video your response AND the approximate time it appears in the video.

GUIDELINES

In the professional nursing practice, nurses must provide unbiased care, even in situations where the person/s being treated have different backgrounds (language, religion, culture, ethnicity, etc.) than you. The first step in overcoming and minimizing personal biases is to recognize them. In this discussion, you will assess your personal biases. Answer the questions honestly and to the best of your ability, noting that there are no right or wrong answers.

· Complete the General Awareness and Attitudes Scale

o The General Awareness and Attitudes Scale is adapted from the Cultural Awareness Scale by Catterson, Cookston, Martinez, & Rew (1998). Answer the question as honestly as possible. There are no right or wrong answers.

· Once you complete and score the General Awareness and Attitudes Scale, answer the following questions:

· What does the scale say about you?

· How strong are your biases?

· NOTE: Do NOT post your individual scores. This discussion is not about how you score, but about personal discovery. In other words, the focus of this discussion is about what you learn about yourself. You also do NOT need to share your score with your academic coach.

· How can you address these personal biases in your professional nursing practice?
