Business analysis term paper | Management homework help

Each student will write a company profile of a company of choice except CitiGroup. The company profile is to be between 10 and 15 double-spaced pages (use APA style), not including appendices and bibliography. You are to use citations in the text. Think about the key areas in the core: Management, Marketing, Economics, Quantitative Analysis, MIS, and Accounting. A good business analysis will hit on all of these areas. It is to include:

  1. the mission and vision
  2. short history of firm
  3. major competition
  4. market position – what problem is it solving, who are its competitors, how is it doing in comparison to its competitors, what can it do better, what can it capitalize on
  5. apparent strategy – which of the strategies that we discussed is it following, is that a good strategy for it, why do you think that
  6. critical factors for success in the industry – how do companies become successful in the marketplace, what has made it successful in the past or, if it’s not successful, what should it have done to be more successful (note – this is the only place in the paper where you’re allowed to unspill the milk!)
  7. Management Information Systems – what systems does the company use and how do those systems add to or detract from the company’s success? How does technology impact the company?
  8. SWOT — what does it do well internally, what does it do poorly internally and what internally can it fix, what opportunities does it have externally and what threats to its existence appear in the external environment?
  9. Performance analyses (various topics) of the company – financial and other. Note, analyses mean ANALYSES WITH EXPLANATIONS, not just numbers strung together.

Your conclusion would be whether the strategy is successful or not (with appropriate reasons for each) and any comments and recommendations (including why). Upload your business analysis to Safe Assign on Bb by clicking the link provided for Business Analysis Paper and Business Analysis Presentation. An excellent student business analysis is provided in below. Note as you do, however, that it did not require an MIS analysis as yours does. Look under this assignment and you will find a Business Research Guide and Internet Sites for Business Research. Also go to the ECSU Library web site, click on Online Resources, checkout ABI/Inform and other business research databases (e.g., Hoovers) available to you. Make sure that you download a 10-K report or an Annual Report for your corporation. This is a legal document and should not include any ‘hype’ by the firm. You should be citing from this in both your presentation and your analysis document. I also strongly suggest that you download a company report (generally available from the company’s website, and yes, they generally have some ‘hype’ and paint a pretty picture of the firm’s future). You should also be citing from this document in both presentation and analysis. I am available for help on your topic and report.Blackboard has the rubric that is being used to evaluate these papers. Business strategy courses often refer to the Fortune 500 ranking within Fortune magazine. These are large firms and are important in the U.S. economy. However, most of the attention is given to the top 50 or top 100. There is more information available on the Fortune 500 (defined by Fortune magazine) companies. Success of the firms from this 500 group may depend on the changing business/political/financial/ international/technical environments.Remember, for this paper you are not just reporting facts, you are also providing ANALYSIS and SYNTHESIS of the facts you have uncovered. This means you need to explain both what the analysis says and what that means for the company. I also want you to anticipate how the changing environments (mentioned above) will or could challenge, help, or hurt these firms. Yes, you will be dealing with the unknown; but this is what your challenge will be in your decision making in an increasingly faster and more complicated business environment. That is part of management.  Each of you will do a power point presentation of your project. The presentation should provide insights about how relevant theories can be applied to problems in real organization. Be well organized, coherent, and attract and maintain the attention of the audience. Each of you will have 15 minutes each to present to the class.

ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY First Submissions

ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY: First Submissions

Task: as part of your research, you will create an complete annotated bibliography of all works you may use (no less than eight sources, including Carr, and no more than 20 sources). Each annotation should contain two separate paragraphs: 1) a 75-100 word summary of the main ideas of the source and 2) your 75-100 word analysis of the source, including why you think the source is useful in your own research.

Important Note:

It is important to be thorough with this activity because your final paper may only use the sources that you deploy in this annotated bibliography.

ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY ASSIGNMENT

Annotated Bibliography Activity

As part of your research for your final paper in English 102, you will write an annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents in which each citation is followed by two brief descriptive and evaluative paragraphs, the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited. Annotations are both descriptive and critical; they expose the source author’s point of view, clarity and appropriateness of expression, and authority.

Task: as part of your research, you will create an annotated bibliography of all works you may use (no less than EIGHT sources including Carr but no more than 20 sources). Each annotation should contain two separate paragraphs: 1) a 75-to-100 word summary of the main ideas of the source and 2) your 75-100 word analysis of the source, including why you think the source is useful in your own research. If all goes well, you will have more sources in your bibliography than you will use in your final paper.

Note: it is important to be thorough with this activity because your final paper may only use the sources that you include in this annotated bibliography.

How to write an annotated bibliography:

  1. First, locate and record citations to books, periodicals, and documents that may contain useful information and ideas on your topic. Briefly examine and review the actual items. Then choose those works that provide a variety of perspectives on your topic.
  2. Cite the book, article, or document using MLA style and write it as it will appear in your Works Cited page.
  3. Write a concise annotation that summarizes the central theme and scope of the book or article. Include one or more sentences that (a) evaluate the authority or background of the author, (b) comment on the intended audience, (c) compare or contrast this work with another you have cited, or (d) explain how this work illuminates your topic.

See below for an example of a good annotation and for why it is a good one.

Parameters:

  1. Follow the source requirements and restrictions as described in the Major Paper Assignment.
  2. Do not use abstracts of articles. You must find and refer to full articles.
  3. At least TWO source must be from a scholarly journal.
  4. One source must be a book other than our class text.
  5. All of your sources but one type MUST come from the CCP Library databases.
  6. You may use .gov websites. These are the only kind Google search results permitted as a source.
  7. Wikipedia does not count as a source. Also not a source: the dictionary as well as Cliff Notes, Spark Notes, or other online sources that do the thinking and the writing for you.
  8. All of your sources must be relevant to your research problem.
  9. All of the sources of your paper must come from your completed annotated bibliography. A paper that includes a source NOT found in your annotated bibliography will not be accepted. Think of the whole that would put in a paper.
  10. Cite sources using MLA format and style.
  11. The entries in the Annotated Bibliography MUST be in alphabetical order.

The authors, researchers at the Rand Corporation and Brown University, use data from the National Longitudinal Surveys of Young Women and Young Men to test their hypothesis that nonfamily living by young adults alters their attitudes, values, plans, and expectations, moving them away from their belief in traditional sex roles. They find their hypothesis strongly supported in young females, while the effects were fewer in studies of young males. Increasing the time away from parents before marrying increased individualism, self-sufficiency, and changes in attitudes about families. In contrast, an earlier study by Williams cited below shows no significant gender differences in sex role attitudes as a result of nonfamily living.

This article is useful in that it directly addresses one of my central research questions, specifically suggesting that the traditional family structure as a form may tend to inculcate in young people the belief that the traditional family is an inevitable form when in fact this belief is nothing more than the product of restrictive upbringing. However, it will also be useful to deal with the notion I have found in other texts, specifically Mary Eberstadt’s book, How the West Really Lost God, that when young people cohabitated, they also tend to become more secular. That is, that a traditional family structure is an important cause f people’s belief in God. So, while young people may find more individuality and self-sufficiency when they chose nonfamily living, so it seems also true that some kinds of nonfamily living, such as cohabitation by men and women who are not married, makes them less religious and more secular. It might be that the cost of individuality and self-sufficiency is too great a cost to pay if young people lose their faith. Faith helps young people also deal with difficult times

Above is a great example of a citation and an annotation. Notice what makes these annotations right:

  1. The citation at the top correctly using MLA style.
  2. The annotation uses two paragraphs. This is important.
  3. The first paragraph is a good summary that includes both the main ideas of the article and a clear sense of what the author’s purpose is.
  4. The second paragraph is a discussion of why the article is important to the research project.
  5. The second paragraph also makes connections between the sources, showing how these connections offers additional problems or positions to consider.

Your annotations should have the above five characteristics because I will be using these characteristics to grade your annotations.

Technology changes how information is available.

Ben Adler, in his article Streams of Consciousness, asks How does it change the value of journalism to strip away the context that a credible publication provides? For your first essay assignment I want you to use your text and personal experience to answer this question and to discuss how we acquire news in general.  Consider the following questions:
How has technology changed the availability of information?
How do you receive your news?
What are the benefits and drawbacks of your own methods of obtaining news?
You will need to give credit for information from the text or other sources.  Since this is an interdisciplinary class you can use MLA citation rules.  You can find information on MLA online.  For example, check out the Purdue Online Writing Lab ( https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_style_introduction.html ). Additional assistance can also be found at TCTCs Tutoring Center ( https://www.tctc.edu/life-at-tctc/student-services-and-support/tutoring-services/ )
General Essay Guidelines
The essay will need to be at least two full pages. This is just a minimum. A two page essay is the equivalent of surviving on nothing but bread and water.  You can do it, but you probably will not be happy with the results. Failure to meet the two page minimum will result in a 10 point penalty.
Each essay should be a Word document, double-spaced, and in a 12 pt. Times New Roman font. Use 1 margins for the essay.  Failure to follow these guidelines will result in a 10 point penalty.
Put the title of the document at the top of the page, centered, with your name and class section. Space down no more than twice. Those who try to pad the length of their paper by spacing down many times may not like the grade they receive. The heading and initial spaces will not count towards the two page length of your essay.  I want to see at least two pages of actual essay.
Essays must be submitted through the appropriate link in the Essay Information folder under Course Content as a Word (.doc or .docx) attachment.
Use correct spelling and grammar and write in complete sentences. This is an essay, so, you will also need an introduction (with an appropriate thesis that addresses all of the guiding questions), a conclusion and supporting paragraphs (meaning each paragraph should support the thesis made in your introduction).
Use quotation marks for words taken directly from your textbook or other sources and make sure the source is clear. Use parenthetical citations providing the author and page number for direct quotes or paraphrased ideas.
No late essays, even one second after the deadline, will be accepted.  You may submit your essay at any point from the beginning of the course until the due date.  That means that there is no excuse for not getting your essay in on time.  Plan for the unexpected and submit your essays early.
Keep in mind that I am available to review rough drafts (I will provide feedback on content), but I do not have unlimited time.  I suggest you ask me questions about your essay assignments long before (at least 1-2 weeks) they are due.

To Cater Increased Demand For Products And To Strengthen Its Market.

SportClothes-IT-All is a department store chain which is evolving in textile market due to its trend setter clothing products. The company has recently decided to host a web server in their network to account for an online shopping portal in order to cater increased demand for products and to strengthen its market.

The company deployed a flexible, popular and open source http server – Apache 2.0, which can also make use of server-side scripting tools so as to facilitate dynamic web contents, on a CentOS Linux Server. The implementation was carried out by a system administrator trainee who had a very little understanding about server and network security. As part of testing he connected the web server to the internet and after a few days of monitoring he noticed that someone from a trusted IP address has been conducting TCP scans on the network. So, the company is worried that someone might be planning to attack the web server in the near future.

As a senior network systems administrator, your task is to propose a secure solution by implementing and configuring appropriate security tools so as to secure the server and network from potentially malicious activities.

The company’s CIO requires your solution design to cover below requirements:
• Implementing ModSecurity with rules in place to protect the apache web server against SQL injection and Cross site scripting. (ModSecurity rules must be configured and included in the device configuration summary table.)
• Identifying at least 6 possible threats towards the CentOS Linux Server. You must also provide solutions to those threats.
• Identifying at least 6 threats towards the Apache web servers (other than SQL injection and Cross site scripting which is part of the first requirement). You must also provide solutions to those threats.
• Identifying at least 4 threats towards the network and protecting the network by implementing security solutions • Including at least one test machine in your design to be able to test your security design.

Note: As this project is strictly based on securing the web server and the network, you are not required to implement any programming aspects of the server which is Web Development team’s job. You must include your name and student ID on the main page of your website
Project Report Structure
You are required to document a report that contains the following information.
Introduction
A brief discussion on the given scenario and identification of possible threats this web server and the network might be vulnerable to.
Network drawing
A logical diagram showing the CentOS Linux server and test machines in your network. Design Discussion
Discussion of your design and decision-making processes with justifications.
Device configuration summary
A table which includes various threats anticipated and their mitigations should be provided in this section.

Threat/vulnerability
Mitigating action/Tools
Device Configured
Commands Used

Testing Plan
An outline of the potential threats in your network and an overview of your testing to verify the successful mitigation of issues using the tools deployed. Output and screen dumps, alongside explanations should be included to verify that your design and configuration work.
