Compare and contrast new social media marketing trends with more traditional forms of advertising.

Instructions

We have been looking at successful ad campaigns using social media. Let’s apply this directly and see how this compares with older methods of advertising.

Choose a recent social media campaign, possibly one you interacted with. Below are some possible examples:

  • ALS #IceBucketChallenge
  • Always #LikeAGirl
  • Coca-Cola #ShareaCoke
  • IKEA bookbook video
  • McDonald’s Super Bowl 2015
  • Taco Bell #OnlyInTheApp
  • Virgin America Boo videos

Then consider an older commercial, before social media was (as big) an influence. You can look at famous ads on Youtube.

In a minimum of 3 pages, please do the following:

  • Provide an introduction with a summary of the ads you have chosen, and an explanation of what the stated intent behind the ad is.
  • From there, look at what the ad actually says (like a beer ad might actually be demonstrating that women are sex objects).
  • Describe how social media plays into the intent and the actual message. What’s different between the two you chose?
  • What made the ads successful (or not successful)?
  • What ideas and opinions do you have about the product or brand after reviewing the ads?
  • What can we learn about how businesses use Twitter, Facebook, Linked In, etc. to communicate, network, broaden their customer base, and promote their products/services?
  • Summarize your analysis.

For Week 8 Assignment/Capstone project, from our discussions these past weeks describe your psychology career choice, e.g. clinical psychologist, school psychologist, psychology professor, research psychologist in a university hospital, etc. and respond to the questions below based on what you have learned about that job from your research in class. Imagine you have just completed your first year in your first job with any one of the career fields we have covered.

In a twenty slide PowerPoint presentation (not including title or Reference slide), please address the following:

Discuss your goals and expectations for your first year in this career field.
What is the focus of your interaction with your clients?
Explain a typical day in this future career.
What is most rewarding about this first year? Why?
What conflicts in your career do you believe you will encounter in this first year? How will these conflicts be resolved? (Be elaborative. A great rule to remember is “who, what, where, when, how”).
What is your annual salary and has it met your expectations? Why or why not?
What part of your education has benefited you the most in achieving this career?
What type of continuing education are you required to complete to maintain credentials/expertise and grow in this career choice?
Your presentation should include a title slide, Body of presentation, including in text citations, NOTES, Conclusion/Summary, Reference slide (at least three academic references), per APA.

IMPORTANT: You MUST utilize the Note portion of the PowerPoint. Each slide should have at least one substantive paragraph, e.g. five- seven sentences regarding what you have highlighted on the slides. The Note portion is worth a significant amount of points for this assignment.

Success for a company comes in many different forms. It could be the bottom line, expanding market share, or pushing the boundaries of sustainability.
Using the FedEx and UPS Documentary case study video and your own research, analyze the effect that either UPS or FedEx has had on the modern economy. Two group members will analyze one company, and two will analyze the other. Collaborate as a group to decide who will research which company.
When you are finished with your research, list and explain at least two effects that the company has had on the economy. Focusing on the company you chose to analyze, do you think it is positioned to remain an industry leader, or will it become stagnant? Explain your reasoning.
In your responses to your peers, state whether you agree or disagree with your peers’ evaluation of the company they chose to analyze. If you analyzed the same company, what similarities do your analyses share? On what points to do your analyses diverge? How are UPS and FedEx similar? How do the two companies differ? This should be an in-depth discussion about the current and future status of both companies. Explain your reasoning.
