Case Study_4

Read Raiding Customer Assets at MF Global and complete the questions at the end of the case study.

Note: Minimum two pages.

Journal Articles

Pick one of the following terms for your research: Strategic philanthropy, locus of control, ethical culture, ethical awareness, or normative approach.

Note  Journal Article Analysis

Each student will select one of the key terms presented in the module and conduct a search of Campbellsville University’s online Library resources to find 1 recent peer-reviewed academic journal article (within the past 3 years) that closely relate to the concept. Your submission must include the following information in the following format:

DEFINITION: a brief definition of the key term followed by the APA reference for the term; this does not count in the word requirement.

SUMMARY: Summarize the article in your own words- this should be in the 150-200 word range. Be sure to note the article’s author, note their credentials and why we should put any weight behind his/her opinions, research or findings regarding the key term.

DISCUSSION: Using 300-350 words, write a brief discussion, in your own words of how the article relates to the selected chapter Key Term. A discussion is not rehashing what was already stated in the article, but the opportunity for you to add value by sharing your experiences, thoughts and opinions. This is the most important part of the assignment.

REFERENCES: All references must be listed at the bottom of the submission–in APA format.

business law discussion 38

Each of us makes promises all of the time, and most promises we keep, but some we don’t. The question this week focus on when a promise is – and is not – enforceable. Said differently, when will the law make a person keep a promise? Choose one of the scenarios below and explain whether or not you think that the promise made is enforceable. Make sure to think about the concepts of offer, acceptance, consideration, legality and capacity.

  • Uncle John promises his nephew that he will give the nephew $10,000 on his 18th birthday if the nephew doesn’t drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, do illegal drugs, or engage in any immoral behaviors.
  • Bill asks Sally to marry him, and her answer is “yes”. Bill then sells his favorite sports car and pays upfront for a lavish wedding ceremony and a 3-week trip to Europe.
  • Keith agrees to transport ceramic figurines from Los Angeles to New York City in his moving truck. What he doesn’t know is that each figurine is filled packets of cocaine.
  • Maria and Jennifer are having drinks at a local bar, and both are a bit tipsy. As the night goes on, Maria asks Jennifer to trade Jennifer’s 3-carat diamond ring for Maria’s 1978 Ford Duster, and Jennifer agrees to the deal.

SEcoND discussion

In some ways contracts can be very easy to enter into. In fact, we often enter into agreements simply by our actions.

For example, many businesses place small notices near their entryways warning that by entering the building you consent to video recording or by parking in a specific lot you agree that the lot owner is not liable should anything happen to your car (even if you paid to park there).

Are these agreements valid?

Should individuals be held to agreements even if they did not know about them?

Use specific details about contract formation and performance in your response.

Deviance and the Human Condition

This CR requires that you demonstrate your sociological knowledge of the relationships
between deviance and social problems. Recall that we began our unit deliberating how
sociologists define deviance relative to social problems that are housed on individual
behavior. In this CR you will choose one of the topics that we studied (drug (mis)use or
crime) and discuss how this particular act of deviance is understood as a social problem
and why.
-Begin by explaining how sociologists define deviance and deviant behavior.
-Explain how your issue has been operationalized as an act of deviance. Consider the
following questions:
What behaviors are problematized and why? Who is a problem and why?
Who are the victims? Perpetrators? Why?
What social factors contribute to your topic?
-When do these acts of deviance shift from being a personal problem to a social one?
Why? -Give examples of community-based responses to address this problem.
In your writing, it is important to cite from the scholarship we have been reading, including
Anderson, Best, Dubois, Ferris & Stein, Lauer & Lauer, as well as the authors and activists
from When We Fight We Win, and your own sources. Putting scholars in conversation with
one another requires that you cite at least two different sources.
