Book-Review-Draft

Turn in the draft of your Book Review. The draft should be close to final draft quality. Make sure you have a proper title page, that you are using proper footnotes, in Bluebook academic citation format. Below is the book I chose.

Doug Stanton, Horse Soldiers: The Extraordinary Story of a Band of US Soldiers Who Rode to Victory in Afghanistan (2010).

Identify any issue that highlights the resiliency and/or struggle of Black Ameri

Identify any issue that highlights the resiliency and/or struggle of Black Americans as discussed by Black scholars in your weekly course readings. Example of struggle/resiliency — single mothers, caretakers, laborers, incarceration and its impact on the Black family, black love, STEM and black education, student-athletes, home ownership, Black church, HBCUs, hip-hop to neo-soul, leadership and advocacy, etc. Anything you can demonstrate that has something to do with showing Black resilency and struggle in the U.S. Identify any type of data source to observe the matter/issue/struggle/social problem/topic. Students can observe any three selections of data sources such as Sunday church sermons, journal articles, graphs/tables/charts, sitcoms, song/music lyrics or poetry related to the selected topic. State and cite the source and provide an interpretation for the data of 5 -7 sentences utilizing concepts/topics/themes/scholars from the weekly course videos. For instance, if it is a song, state the author, date and the actual lyrics then interpret the song in context with Black perspectives from your weekly videos(listed below). Remember, students must cite content to demonstrate his/her understanding of Black perspectives on Black life in America. Students are basically doing a content analysis of selected data such as three songs/poems to observe the presentation of Black life from a Black perspective. This should be fun and informative. For example, find songs you like, love and groove into writing your analysis.
TEMPLATE
1. STATE & DEFINE the Topic
– Define using an academic source — not Wikipedia or Webster’s Dictionary — and cite the source with the page number. Relate it to some aspect highlighted in your readings.
2. Find a selected source. You can copy/paste the source (or post the video of the data such as song lyrics or poetry) as long as you site the source – song title, author, date published. 3. Then write at least 5-7 statements interpreting the source and relate it to your assigned weekly readings/videos – using paraphrasing and/or quotes. Students must cite content from the weekly readings to demonstrate his/her understanding of Black perspectives on Black life in America. Deliverable: Powerpoint Presentation OR Post in an organized document. Please do not post it as an attachment. You must post it so it will be within the actual posting to be easy access for your classmates.
Be sure to explain it by connecting it to reading/research materials (from the readings and online sources).
SOURCES THAT SHOULD BE USED THAT ARE FOUND ON YOUTUBE: “W.E.B. Dubois explains the meaning of “The Negro Problem” AND “Martin Luther King Jr. Speech at Howard University (1966) / thepostarchive” a third source of your choice (Sunday church sermons, journal articles, graphs/tables/charts, sitcoms, song/music lyrics or poetry) to analyze.
Be sure to cite all sources and include a bibliography!
