These directions are nearly identical to the earlier assignment on physical development. The plagiarism checker is on to guide you; to help you learn to paraphrase and write in your own words. I use it as a learning tool rather than a ‘catching’ tool. As before, please see the rubric for grading guidelines. If you did not earn 20/20 on the Physical Assignment, please review your errors and then ask me for guidance if you are still not sure how to proceed. Choose a peer reviewed research article originally published in the last 5 years that relates to cognitive development. The research must involve humans, but anything throughout the lifespan will suffice. Make sure that the research article includes data and data analysis. Choose a topic that you are genuinely interested in so you will learn something that you find valuable. Some examples of research that is connected to the cognitive domain: Is there a relationship between sitting and dementia? What are the cognitive effects of dementia? Are there “best practices” for teaching second language learners? What types of differences in intelligence have been found cross culturally? How is cognitive development related to brain development? Are there genetic determinants to some cognitive outcomes? What is the relationship between physical activity and cognition in the elderly? Does [whatever] have an effect on thinking ability? What type of cognitive effects result from smoking marijuana? What type of cognitive effects result from [whatever]? The above are only examples. Feel free to choose any topic in cognitive development that catches your interest. And remember, the LAVC library has the option to search only for peer reviewed information on its homepage. Provide a brief (~250 words) summary of the study’s findings in terms that a non-psychology undergraduate would understand. Do not copy the abstract or any other part of the article and do not use any of the references in the text. See the Week 2 module for guidance. Make sure these features are included (The elements of the rubric are the same as the last assignment): A pdf copy of the journal article A properly formatted title page and page numbers. With new APA guidelines, this is super easy. No running head necessary. You must have a title on page 2 that matches your title page. An explanation of the type of study or review (remember, in a way that a peer could understand). Pay particular attention to anything that is a review or meta research. These studies combine information from many studies and then summarize their findings. You don’t have to explain how all the different data was collected, but you do you have identify that it is a review and discuss the results and takeaway, as before. A general idea of who the participants were An explanation of the results An explanation of what we have learned from the study. What is the takeaway if you were explaining it to someone else? The title usually (not always) gives a strong clue here. Tell me what the purpose of the article was and and what you or others might learn from it. At the end, make sure to post your properly formatted, appropriate reference, including the use of a hanging (reverse) indent, as per APA format. You are once again posting your assignment at a pdf, so the format will remain intact. If you do not remember how to do electronic indents review the video from the last assignment. Words and phrases you should avoid (unless you prefer a lower score): “prove” “Works cited” Retrieved , from [Ebsco, LAVC, Amazon, or whatever] (On the other hand, it is necessary to use ‘retrieved from’ when citing an online only resource like the CDC, the United Nations, WHO, or those kinds of organizations.) fact Once again, do not make a reference link to a library a part of your reference. And others that may not affect your score, but you should avoid: “in the article…” “A study was conducted that showed…” (I know it was a study, just explain it. You can write, “The study showed…” or “Research attempted to…” or something like that.) “The authors talk about…” (If it is a written article, no one is talking.) “The article talks about…” (same same. Instead, say ” [ … ] is discussed” or “The authors discuss…” or “the researchers discuss…” Example assignments can be found in a previous module. If the article you choose is not primarily about cognitive development, your final score will be reduced by 50%. If the article you choose is not peer reviewed, your final score will be 0.

Fear is a constant emotion that arises in any human within any society, past or

Fear is a constant emotion that arises in any human within any society, past or present. It is evident that the unknown on the other side of fear influences ones decision making process which leads us to a constant scare of change from societal norms. Concluding that the fear instilled in ones mind is counterproductive to promote changes in traditions within a culture or society. ABOVE IS THE THESIS THAT MUST BE INCLUDED AND THE STRUCTURE OF THE PAPER BELOW ARE EXAMPLES THAT MUST BE MENTIONED (Death of a kings horseman) – Elesin, the Kings right hand man, who exhausted every benefit that came with that title was faced with his promise when the king passed. Although it was an easy decision to take on that roll and what it came with at the beginning the reality and fear of suicide did not settle in until the time has come. We see here that Elesins fear is fuelling his potential decision to be the first ever horseman to not continue this tradition in the Yoruba community. The fear instilled in Elesin at this time was so intense that he was willing to go against his promise and the comfortability of his current life gave him the courage to go against this grounded tradition. – Iyaloja, the mother of the market, feared extremely for the Yoruba tradition not to be carried out she went to extreme measures to ensure it happens. Iyaloja allowed and helped Elesin chase after one of the beautiful women in the market who happened to be the girl that her own son is engaged to. This shows how the fear of the tradition not being upheld made Iyaloja to make an impulsive decision based on not knowing what would happen if Elesin didn’t make the ultimate sacrifice. – Olunde, the horseman’s son, had similar fear to Iyaloja although he was more frightened for his father. Not knowing the outcome that would occur if his father didn’t carry out the ultimate sacrifice he also made an impulsive decision and made the ultimate sacrifice for him. Olunde believed if his father didn’t carry out the Yoruba tradition that it would unleash cosmos chaos within the community and Olunde took it upon hims to avoid that and gave himself up.
