Assignment: Treating Sexual Trauma Survivors: Cultural, Ethical, and Legal Issues
Intimate trauma involves one person’s intentional violation of another’s body. The impact of intimate trauma on the survivor is distinct from that experienced by those involved in collective traumas. Issues of traumatic sexualization, identity confusion, safety, and powerlessness, among others, abound in intimate—or sexual—trauma survivors. Layered responses to sexual trauma refer to those that are more visible, such as depression or PTSD, as well as others that may remain hidden, such as suicidal tendencies. Layered responses complicate the recovery process, demanding specialized skills and interventions specific to the needs of the sexual trauma survivor. These needs are influenced by the survivor’s gender, age, and culture. Appropriate interventions can have a positive impact on the quality of recovery for the client, while inappropriate interventions can have adverse effects, leading to potential legal and ethical issues. Thus, it is important that you are adequately trained and prepared to provide services to sexual trauma survivors.
For this Assignment, Read the case study Sandra located in this week’s resources. Think about the effects of the trauma on Sandra and the interventions you might use to help Sandra deal with those effects. Consider the cultural, ethical, and legal issues related to Sandra’s treatment.
The Assignment (2–3 pages):
Explain the effects of sexual trauma on Sandra.
Describe two specific interventions you might use to help Sandra deal with those effects.
Explain any cultural, ethical, and legal issues related to Sandra’s treatment.
Explain what might be different in the effects of the trauma and the interventions you might select if Sandra had been a male.
Support your Assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation. You are required to provide a reference list and to appropriately cite, in APA style, all references used within your Assignment.

You need to conduct a research on ” M aternal mortality in the United States”. You might find readings on maternal mortality for this unit helpful. To help you think about what you need to write, please answer the following questions:
1. What are the causes of maternal mortality/deaths in the United States?
2. Are maternal  deaths decreasing over time?/Is maternal mortality decreasing over time? Why or why not?
3. What has been done to prevent maternal mortality/deaths in the United States?
4. Have these efforts been effective? Why or why not?
Once you have completed your research, you will have to write a short research paper. Your paper should be 3-5 pages in length. Please address the questions asked above (but don’t just turn in a bulleted form of the answers to your questions, you are writing a paper!). Additionally, be sure to use any critical terms covered in your assigned readings and this week’s or previous lectures.
For full credit you must incorporate at least five sources on maternal mortality in the U.S. in your paper. The five sources must be correctly cited (APA or MLA) in the body of your paper.

1)What is the feeling rule that Candace Clarke discovered? What is the deep story that Arlie Hocschild discovered? Once you explain this, give an example of a study you could conduct (referring the activity in the lecture notes for instructions) to find out a feeling rule or a deep for a particular group or subgroup in our culture. Use Clarke and Hocschild’s research as your model.
2)Framing Events as Bad Luck” from Professor Candace Clarke’s book Misery and Company: Sympathy in American Culture.
We have looked at how shame can work to police people and also at some methods of understanding emotions. We will not move on to look specifically at the social constructionist approach to studying emotions in detail for both this week and the following week. But now let’s discuss the reading…Check out the two accounts below. Both are about the actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died of a drug overdose a few years ago. Can you guess (before looking!) how these two accounts of his death relate to the reading for this week?“Despite his wife’s exasperated separation due to his drug use and recent neglectful behavior while visiting his children, Philip Seymour Hoffman embraced the celebrity drug lifestyle, choosing to return to heroine again and again over the last 20 years. When he was found dead, massive amounts of the drug, which police say was evidence of Hoffman’s pre-meditated plans for a long binge, were found in his home.”  VERSUS“After many years of bitter struggle against the crippling disease of heroin addiction and numerous attempts at rehab, beloved actor and cherished family man Philip Seymour Hoffman lost the battle and tragically died of an overdose.”while visiting his children, Philip Seymour Hoffman embraced the celebrity drug lifestyle, choosing to return to heroine again and again over the last 20 years.
