In the lecture we discuss general causes of conflict and the result of that conflict. What are some of those issues mentioned when it comes to the cause? What from chapter 5 (Moore) did you learn that would help you work with a client/employee who is having issues with conflict at work?

For this response, I will present to you four excepts from Michelle Alexander’s controversial novel, “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness”. In a basic summary, Alexander argues how since slavery has been abolished in the United States, proponents of slavery and institutional racism have passed laws, which mimick the social conditions of American pre-slavery. Also, how the infamous Black Codes & “Jim Crow Laws” ensured that Black-Americans remained in economic and social subjection in the United States. These laws, as Alexander argues influences how people view citizens who are a minority and/or criminal.
Here are the excerpts:
“In an era of colorblindness, it is no longer acceptable to use race, explicitly, as a justification for discrimination, exclusion, and social contempt. So we don’t. Rather than rely on race, we use our criminal justice system to label people of color “criminals” and then engage in all the practices we supposedly left behind”.
Those of us who have viewed that world from a comfortable distance yet sympathize with the plight of the so-called underclass tend to interpret the experience of those caught up in the criminal justice system primarily through the lens of popularized social sciences, attributing the staggering increase in incarceration rates in communities of color to the predictable, though unfortunate consequences of poverty, racial segregation, unequal educational opportunities, and presumed realities of the drug market, including the mistaken belief that most drug dealers are Black and Brown. This type of remark was invariably accompanied by nervous laughter, intended to convey the impression that although the idea had crossed their minds, it was not an idea a reasonable person would take seriously.”
“The term mass incarceration refers not only to the criminal justice but also to the larger web of laws, rules, policies, and customs that control those labeled criminals both in and out of prison”
“We avoid talking about the racial caste system in our society because we are ashamed of our racial history. We recognize that mobility may be difficult, but the key to our collective self-image is the assumption that mobility is always possible, so failure to move up reflects on one’s character.”
The excerpts I posted both express how informal and formal social control has influenced the United States overtime. Rather a person believes he or she does not experience social control, they ultimately do everyday. No matter your ethnicity, gender, skin color, or race, people in society are influenced and rely on some form of colorblindness and mass incarceration. Whether the experience is positive or negative, we in society have had experiences with racial informal and formal social control.
For this response, you can respond to one or all of my requests. One, I want you to incorporate the journal article and new articles Professor Vandersip has assigned for you in the racial profiling discussion. Second, I want you to respond to these excerpts with your personal opinions about what Alexander has presented in her book. How does her argument in these excerpts make you feel? Do you agree or disagree with what she says? Lastly, I want you to write about an experience you have had with colorblindness, discrimination, or racial social control; whether was formal and/or informal. Since this is an extra credit discussion, I want quality responses! A vague summary will not receive full credit. I would like to see a minimum of 10 sentences wrote for this discussion. However, if you reach the minimum, this will not guarantee you full credit. For this discussion, I encourage discussion amongst your peers, but it is not required. Also, you can earn up to two points for this post. We look forward to reading your responses and all opinions are welcomed! Don’t be shy.

Business Plan Financial Analysis And Budget

The purpose of this assignment is to complete a financial analysis to develop a proposed budget for a selected strategic initiative.

Understanding the role of financial management in strategic planning is essential in formulating a business plan for a strategic initiative. Financial analysis involves considering the factors that directly affect the initiative such as staffing, space, equipment, training and education, etc. Once this information is known, a budget can be proposed for the strategic initiative and included as part of the business plan.

For this assignment, complete a financial analysis of your selected organization by reviewing current company financial data such as income statements, budgets, net revenue, profit/loss statements, etc. Use that information and research about key budget items such as average salaries, cost of benefits, space and equipment costs, etc. to formulate a proposed budget for your strategic initiative.

In a 250-500 words, address the following in the form of an executive summary: Briefly describe the proposed strategic initiative including the proposed changes and expected outcomes based upon the results of the SWOT analysis. Provide a simple budget for the strategic initiative. Include all relevant budget categories such as staffing (including salaries and benefits), space, equipment, training and education, and any other expenses related to the initiative. Create a table to efficiently present the key budget information. Provide a financial data overview that summarizes what financial data you examined and a description of specific factors that informed each financial statement (net revenue, profit/loss, balance sheet, etc.). Include at least one of the financial statements available from the selected organization (income statement, budgets, net revenue, profit/loss statements, etc.) as a figure or an appendix.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Compare the scientific opportunities for long-term exploration offered by the Moon and Mars – what types of scientific research could be done more effectively on one of those worlds than on earth?

Given the easier access that we have to the moon, humans have already walked the moon’s surface, it would be easier for us to continue studying the moon. From a logistical stand point it would be much easier to access and explore the moon due to it’s accessibility. Although we have studied the moon for a longer period of time and more in depth, scientists believer there is plenty of research left to do. Also, any research that would be best conducted with a human on the ground will obviously be best suited for the moon considering we have yet to land someone on mars and that possibility is still years away.

2. What difficulties would there be in establishing a permanent base or colony on each of these two worlds? Consider the logistical and habitation requirements to establish and maintain any long-term human colonies.

One major difficulty would be gravity. The gravity on the moon is much less than earth’s gravity, but is also much less than mars’ gravity. The moon has very long days, around 28 earth days, whereas mars has days similar in length to ours. Mars also has similar seasons to earth with less extreme temperature variances. The moon has little to no atmosphere which would do less to protect humans from harmful radiation. Mars has less of an atmosphere than earth, but it is still more than the moon which scientists say “could” allow some above ground habitation.

Answer Question in 100 words

Describe the differences in the chemical makeup of the inner and outer parts of the solar system. What is the relationship between what the planets are made of and the temperature where they formed?
