Teacher – Write a 2-page explication selected from Beowulf or Macbeth.
An explication is a technique involving close analysis of a short excerpt taken from a lengthy work. It is neither a summary nor a paraphrase but an interpretation that reveals deeper meanings. You will explore language, considering elements like allusions, settings, themes, point of view, characterization, rhythm, symbolism, tone, foreshadowing, irony, and/or anything else that brings clarity to certain meanings of a work. Be sure to “set up” the passage you are explicating and identify the work’s title, author and line numbers in the first paragraph. For example, “This explication will explore lines 47-67 in Beowulf.” This essay is about focus not range.
Student – I’d suggest writing the explication on lines from Macbeth, but as the assignment outlines feel free to use an excerpt from Beowulf.

The purpose of this 4-5 page essay (not including title page or references) is to demonstrate your ability to research, identify and communicate the social/cultural, physical/environmental, political and tourism/economic impacts of an event. This will require you to research and identify an event that you are interested in. It will be important that the event has some form of information available which can support and substantiate your claims about the impacts. This information can either be a specific annual report or economic impact study on the actual event or an industry report about similar types of events. You will also find lots of great academic journal articles to help you with this.

In this video, you will notice that the actors are performing on a stage, the Globe theatre, in front of a live audience. Please pay particular attention when the audience laughs, when the audience listen, and what happens to the rhythm of the play when they do. Also note the posture of the actors, where they are looking, how they speak to each other, their volume.

Theaters during the Renaissance era were beautiful public works were noble and the peasant was both welcome. Queens would sit in the highest chair with their entourage in regal silence while the common people would whoop and holler on the floor level while drinking their ale and eating. Theater was considered a raucous evening out unlike it is today. With this in mind, I’d like you to answer the following question:
Explain how the experience of seeing a show during the Renaissance would differ from today and how you would respond if that were to happen at a production you attended today.
Some things to consider:
What was occurring at the theater in the Renaissance?
Where would you have been?
