Module 4
For each of the following life events, rate yourself on the following scale: Very Stressed; A Little Stressed; Not Stressed:
1. You just remembered that you have a big project / paper due tomorrow by 5:00.
2. You are driving to work or school and you are running a bit late.  The car in front of you is driving 5 mph under the speed limit and you are having trouble getting around him.
3. You just found out that you are going to be a parent.
4. You accidently dropped your cell phone in the toilet, and it is out of commission for at least a day or two, maybe longer.
Now, get with 4 other people and have them participate in the same activity while you log the results.
In the Discussion, tell about your findings.  Did you find that some people are stressed in a situation that others are not stressed in?  Did you discover that some people are more stressed than others in general, or that some are stressed in some situations but not in others?  What do you think the purpose of this activity is?  How do your findings relate to what you learned about in this module?  What is the most valuable lesson you learned in this module?
Module 5
For this Discussion, you are to create a want ad for a romantic relationship or an online dating service profile.  Don’t worry, especially if you are currently in a relationship, this is for educational purposes only, and is not a true matchmaking activity.   The idea is to think about what you learned in this module about the important traits people look for in romantic relationships.  Creativity and appropriate humor are acceptable and encouraged, as long as you follow directions and address relevance to module concepts.
For your Discussion post / dating profile, you should start by describing your personal qualities, your interests, hobbies, likes and dislikes, then describe the qualities of those you would seek (if this were real.)   After completing your profile, discuss the relevance of the concepts you learned about in this module such as proximity, familiarity, attractiveness, matching hypothesis, attitudinal similarity, exchange processes, and shared activities in relationships.
First of all, think about this question.  Which is correct?
A. Girls
B. Gals
C. Ladies
D. Women
Now, watch the following NBC Learn Video: Women Air Force Service Pilots Train or War Efforts
What would your reaction be today if the evening news anchor referred to women in the Air Force as “girl pilots” and made the following comments? “The Air Force wants to get some muscles on those pretty little arms” and “The little blond on the right, with her hair bleached by the sun, you or I might judge by other standards….”
This video was produced in 1943.  How have references to women changed over the years?  How has society changed its views concerning gender roles?   What examples can you think of where you or someone you know use the term “girls” when referring to grown females?   How is that okay?  Or is it not okay?  What, if any other issues concerning gender issues come to mind?

Assignment: Annotated Bibliography

Submit: Annotated Bibliography

This week, you will submit the annotated bibliography introduced in Week 3. This annotated bibliography will consist of six annotations on the same topic of interest.

An annotated bibliography is a document containing selected sources accompanied by a respective annotation. Each annotation consists of a summary, analysis, and application for the purpose of conveying the relevance and value of the selected source. As such, annotations demonstrate a writer’s critical thinking about and authority on the topic represented in the sources.

In preparation for your own future research, an annotated bibliography provides a background for understanding a portion of the existing literature on a particular topic. It is also a useful precursor for gathering sources in preparation for writing a subsequent literature review.

By Day 7

· Locate six articles on the same topic of interest—two quantitative research articles, two qualitative research articles, and two mixed methods research articles—published in peer-reviewed journals.

· Prepare an annotated bibliography that includes the following:

o A one-paragraph introduction that provides context for why you selected the research articles you did.

o A reference list entry in APA Style for each of the six articles that follows proper formatting. Follow each reference list entry with a three-paragraph annotation that includes:

§ A summary

§ An analysis

§ An application as illustrated in this example

o A one-paragraph conclusion that presents a synthesis of the six articles.

· Format your annotated bibliography in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced. A separate References list page is not needed for this assignment.

*Note you can use to previous assignments topics if you choose, please only respond after you read and fully understand what is needed for assignment.

Phenomenological Research Methods

The quest to understand the lived experience and the philosophical structures of experience and consciousness is the focus of a movement that began in the early years of the 20th Century. The movement is called phenomenology because the movement explores the lived experience of phenomena. Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger were two of the prominent philosophers who developed this method of inquiry though each took a significantly different philosophical approach to understanding human experience. In this assignment, you will discuss the psychology research methods that emerged from the philosophies of Husserl and Heidegger and the researchers who developed those methods.

General Requirements:

  • This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
  • Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments. The APA Style Guide is located in the Student Success Center.
  • This assignment requires that at least two scholarly research sources related to this topic, and at least one in-text citation from each source be included.
  • You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Refer to the directions in the Student Success Center.

Directions:

Write a paper (1,250-1,500 words) in which you discuss both the phenomenological research methods in psychology that emerged from the philosophies of Husserl and Heidegger and the theorists/psychologists who developed those methods. Include the following in your paper:

  1. A discussion of at least two phenomenological research methods that emerged from the phenomenological philosophy of Husserl. What were the central tenets of each method? What is known about the theorists/psychologists who developed each method?
  2. A discussion of at least two phenomenological research methods that emerged from the phenomenological philosophy of Heidegger. What were the central tenets of each method? What is known about the theorists/psychologists who developed each method?
  3. A contrast of the primary differences among the phenomenological research methods identified above. How does each method address approaches to data gathering, data analysis, and the role of the researcher?
  4. A research-based statement of and rationale for the method you believe allows the best understanding of human experience.
