Answer the following questions:
1. In your own words, define each of the following terms: health and wellness. Make sure your definitions indicate clearly how one term differs in meaning from the other. (2 marks)
2. From all of the domains included within the wellness concept EXCLUDING THE PHYSICAL DOMAIN, identify two domains that, in your opinion, should be a priority. Define and briefly describe each of the two selected domains. Justify each selection. (4 marks)
3. From the two domains selected above, choose one. Explain two ways that this domain impacts upon physical health. For each of the explanations, draw upon one example from your own life to support your answer. (2 marks)
4. For many individuals, achieving a balance between the various wellness domains is generally considered of high importance. Focusing exclusively on one or two domains, while neglecting others, can be a source of stress and negatively impact health and wellness.
a). Do you agree with the above statements? Provide a clear explanation as to why you agree or disagree. (2 marks)
b). Assess your ability to maintain a “balanced” life, describing two factors that have either prevented you from achieving the desired balance or have assisted you in doing so.(2)
5). Reflecting on your responses to the above questions, now focus on your current physical health and fitness, specifically the musculoskeletal system.
a. Usingascalefrom1to5(1=Poor, 2=Fair, 3=Good, 4=Verygood, 5= excellent), assess your current musculoskeletal health and fitness. Explain briefly two factors that have contributed (positively or negatively) to your current musculoskeletal condition. (1)
b.Usingthecontentcontainedinlessons1through4,and/orinformationfrom an external source (which must be cited), discuss briefly two ways that your current lifestyle either increases or decreases your susceptibility for musculoskeletal conditions and/or impairment. (2)

Instructions: This Scripture Discussion has two parts: (1) Ancient Chinese Religions; (2.) Scriptures of Confucianism & Daoism. Please complete both parts in a single original post, and then comment on others’ posts. You will need to complete the readings on Confucian & Daoist Scripture in order to complete Part 2.
[PART 1 — Ancient Chinese Religion] Try your own hand at the Coin Method of Divination for the Yijing (I Ching — Book of Changes) as described here: How to Consult the I Ching. (Be sure to have a question you want to ask that you are okay with sharing with the whole class!) The linked website also features a handy guide for looking up the number of the relevant hexagram(s): Hexagram Identification Chart. (There are also YouTube Videos you can search for if you need further guidance.)
Next, use this website (Chinese Text Project: Book of Changes) to look up the passage from the Yijing corresponding to the Hexagram number you came up with using the coin method. Try to interpret the answer to your question on the basis of what the Yijing has to say about your Hexagram and post your interpretation and a discussion of how you came up with that interpretation on the basis of the Hexagram here.
I know this might be a challenge. Just give it a go: it may be difficult; you can add your questions, concerns, doubts, and intrigues to your post. (The first website linked above has linked interpretations of each Hexagram, but they aren’t necessarily reliable to the original Yijing text — they’re trying to sell a product.)
I also don’t expect you to have any confidence in the reliability of this procedure of “divination”–I just want you to see a bit of what is involved in the process and the text of the Yijing.
After you have completed your post, please comment respectfully and thoughtfully on a fellow student’s post.
[Part 2: Confucian & Daoist Scripture]
Compare and contrast the teachings of either Confucius (Kongzi) or Mencius (Mengzi) when it comes to the proper way to live one’s life and deal with its challenges to the teachings of either Laozi or Zhuangzi on these matters. Explain your answers by reference to (and citation of) the text of the scriptures in this submodule.

Essay Topic: In Chapter 5, Kessler discusses what he calls “Sacred Action.” In pages 94-97, Kessler focuses specifically on sacred action in the form of sacrifice and how sacrifice can merge with violence. To investigate why people would do that, we can ask sociologists, who try to understand group behavior and how cultural beliefs can influence group behavior. One theory of sacrifice was suggested by sociologist René Girard, who argued that a group may assign blame for wrongdoing to a scapegoat (which could be an animal or a human), and by killing (that is, sacrificing) the scapegoat in a sacred ritual, they remove the blame from the group.
For this essay, focus on one unique “sacred action,” or ritual, that has been a part of most religions since human history began: human sacrifice. Imagine you are the sociologist René Girard and examine those beliefs about human sacrifice from his perspective. Begin your essay by defining what you think Girard means by “scapegoating.” Then focus on human (not animal) sacrifice as it has appeared in two religions, the ancient Roman tradition and Christianity. Summarize some cases of human sacrifice in those two religions, and then ask whether Girard’s theory would explain those cases. Before you attempt to write your essay, be sure to read Kessler’s Chapter 5, my PowerPoint lesson on that chapter, and my PowerPoint lessons on ancient Roman religion and Christianity in Bowker.
Instructions: All of the essays require critical thinking. The “correct” response to a critical thinking essay cannot be found in your textbook, because it is supposed to represent your own opinion on an issue that has no absolutely right or wrong answer. Everybody has their own opinion on these topics, but some opinions are based on better reasoning and evidence than others. When you express your opinion on a topic, explain in detail your reasons and evidence for that opinion. Think of it this way: Lawyers present their arguments in court, and both sides have evidence for their argument. A jury or a judge then looks at all the evidence and makes their decision, based on which body of evidence is most convincing. Keep that in mind when you are expressing an opinion, and present the best reasoning and evidence that you can think of.
For each essay, you will compare a single aspect of several religions from an “outsider” perspective such as a philosopher, sociologist, or anthropologist. The assignment will include two religions to compare. You must use the assigned religions for your essay; you cannot substitute other religions. The essays should have two main sections; you may even be able to answer the question in only two paragraphs, though I would expect them to be long paragraphs. The first section should identify each religion’s belief, their way of understanding the assigned topic. The second section should discuss how those different doctrines might be understood when seen from the assigned academic perspective. One way to compare religions that you should not use is to argue that it is inconsistent with your own religion. That’s an insider’s point of view. You need to take the point of view of an outsider, from an academic perspective, and look at the topic objectively. If you argue that one religion makes more sense to you just because that’s the way you were brought up, I’ll return your essay for a rewrite.
The essays should be any standard format such as APA, MLA, or Chicago. Any information that is not provided in your texts or my PowerPoint lessons should be cited. Plagiarized essays will be given a zero, with no exceptions. The essays should be about 500 to 1000 words, which roughly equals two to four double-spaced pages. Your scores on the essays and final paper are based on the quality of your reasoning and evidence as well as the quality and clarity of your writing.
